Homework has been a part of every student's academic journey since the beginning of time.

It is a
task that is assigned by teachers to be completed outside of the classroom, with the intention of
reinforcing the lessons learned in class. However, for many students, homework can be a daunting
and overwhelming task. It requires time, effort, and a lot of patience to complete. This is where a
homework kit comes in handy.

What is a Homework Kit?

A homework kit is a set of tools and resources that can help students complete their homework more
efficiently and effectively. It typically includes items such as a planner, pens, pencils, highlighters,
index cards, and other materials that are necessary for completing assignments. Having a well-
stocked homework kit can make the process of doing homework less stressful and more organized.

The Difficulties of Writing Homework

Writing homework, in particular, can be a challenging task for many students. It requires strong
writing skills, critical thinking, and the ability to articulate thoughts and ideas effectively. This can be
especially difficult for students who struggle with writing or have a learning disability. Additionally,
with the increasing workload and pressure to excel academically, students may find it difficult to
balance their time and prioritize their assignments.

But, that got me to thinking about how last year our homework kit didn’t end up working quite as
well as I had hoped. Shannon and Jean, love that you have good systems in place for your kiddos.
She lives in Chicago with her husband, two children and cat. This looks like a great thing to set up at
the table as she works. They are excellent quality and I also use them in my pantry for my pretty
glass jars and mason jars. I used some old plastic cups and filled them with all of the items that we
might need to complete elementary school homework: pencils, colored pencils, crayons, highlighters,
tape, scissors, glue sticks, crayons, and rulers. Share to Twitter Share to Facebook Share to Pinterest.
It is easy for me to check to see when supplies (such as tape and glue sticks) need to be replaced.
Even my husband would instruct them to “get a pencil from the drawer” as the first step in
homework. For more about Boy Mama Teacher Mama, see our About Page. This is the perfect
homework kit to create and stow away when not in use. This helps all kids know which supply is
theirs, plus you’ll know who left out their pens and pencils after homework is done. It’s made by
Sterilite and they call it a shower caddy. The kit is just one part of BMTM’s Homework Packet and
Survival Kit (updated September 2018) and I have been wanting to make it for a while. I’m sharing
my journey as a busy mom, raising my kids, leading my family on a journey to natural health and
helping others reclaim their family’s health along the way. I am currently using a 16 quart clear
container, but a smaller size would work just as well. We just started school- no homework yet- and I
want to be ahead of the chaos with some systems in place. Each kit is housed in a unique container
and filled with books, language arts activities, and math activities that are based around a theme
inspired by the container. I love the little organizer case from Creative Options with it's customizable
cubbies. A pair of colorful plastic totes fit perfectly on each shelf. It’s a math facts practice game that
does addition and subtraction or multiplication and division at various difficulty levels. I buy poster
board, glue sticks, construction paper, large paper rolls, and tape this way. But a cart filled with new
school supplies can still create that same sense of excitement that you get when you shop for fresh
school supplies each year. You’ll also need a pencil box, an image of each child, and washi tape color
for each kid. We have everything the wee ones could possibly need (except, granted, a computer or
printer) to get homework done, and it’s making our lives a whole lot easier. My name is Stephanie
and I am the creator of Boy Mama Teacher Mama. The note cards are great for any quick
correspondence to the school or for thank you notes. Welcome back, Jen! At the end of the post I’ll
share a few organizing nuggets for you to tuck into your back pocket (or better yet, put into action!)
Hope you enjoy the post. While Mister Man is at Little Miss’s gymnastics, he has homework to do.
That works beautifully to practice spelling and I can write out notes or to do lists and such.
I refuse to buy one when an old sock does just as well. Something they can take wherever they go
and have all the tools necessary to complete their homework right at their fingertips. I’m also a
cheapskate when it comes to erasers for our whiteboards. Now don't get me wrong here, this isn't
about going out and buying a whole new batch of supplies. Enjoy recipes to give you confidence to
head to the kitchen. I was so worried about how my child would adapt, it never dawned on me that I
would need to as well. Sure the routine was A LOT, but all of the outside of school work even for
the early grades surprised me. I’m sharing my journey as a busy mom, raising my kids, leading my
family on a journey to natural health and helping others reclaim their family’s health along the way. I
also save plastic containers if they are a nice size and plain- because they can be used for school
projects or arts and crafts as well as storage at home. This looks like a great thing to set up at the
table as she works. I had the vast majority of the materials I needed already at home. Fortunately, I
chose the latter. (Otherwise, this would be a very short blog post. We currently have supplies in too
many different places, and need to make it work for how our lives are right now. I also included two
manual sharpeners, so that there is always a way to get a good tip on your pencil. Also, I used
storage solutions I had on hand, not ones specifically bought for this purpose. I further divided them
using empty soup cans to hold colored pencils and markers. They are excellent quality and I also use
them in my pantry for my pretty glass jars and mason jars. I would still see them scrounging around
for scratch paper or going across the kitchen to the “junk drawer” for pencils. Oh, and I also love
that it is clear so we are always reminded of what is inside each time we see it. Outside of the
kitchen you’ll find her with her family (three boys, one husband, multiple exchange student
daughters, and Hank the pup), or gallivanting around the world with her fork in tow. When Little
Miss is at Mister Man’s tae kwon do, she has homework to do. These adjustable IKEA desk chairs
work well for my daughters. But, that got me to thinking about how last year our homework kit
didn’t end up working quite as well as I had hoped. I also include any worksheets that go with the
kit and an activities list so parents will know how to use it with their children. I have a bunch of
little whiteboards in our house along with thin dry erase markers, so I popped that in, too. I think it’s
a great idea to have a place set aside for school supplies (and to buy them up now while they’re so
cheap!). It is easy for me to check to see when supplies (such as tape and glue sticks) need to be
replaced. I could say, “Meh, clearly organization doesn’t work for this family,” and chuck the whole
idea. How are you getting organized for another school year. These kits feature easily identifiable
supplies (personalized with washi tape!) for each child in the family.
Plus, nothing about was cute. Not at all. I headed to the big box store in search of a new solution.
Frustrating! What I think caused it not to work was that it was a bit cumbersome. I buy multiple
packs of crayons, markers, pencils, and glue because it is amazing how fast we run through them in
our house, and Stella will often need to refresh her supplies at school too. That would allow me to
have all the tools I need within easy reach. The labels are waterproof and you can wipe them clean
and re-chalk as many times as you want. We want them to be organized and at this stage so far, they
are not but we will get there. There is plenty of room to work, and I can be nearby to read
instructions, help out with questions, and check it over when they are done. I buy poster board, glue
sticks, construction paper, large paper rolls, and tape this way. I used pencil boxes to organize some
of our supplies as well as a few clear bins. A pair of colorful plastic totes fit perfectly on each shelf.
Read on to see how you can make your own DIY schoolwork station in minutes with a cart, a few
storage baskets, and some fun chalkboard labels. It was small and portable, so anyone in the family
could take it from pantry to kitchen table and back again. She lives in Chicago with her husband,
two children and cat. Something they can take wherever they go and have all the tools necessary to
complete their homework right at their fingertips. Fortunately, I chose the latter. (Otherwise, this
would be a very short blog post. For an optimal experience, please switch to the latest version of
Google Chrome, Microsoft Edge, Apple Safari or Mozilla Firefox. I find that including the kids in
this process is key. While Mister Man is at Little Miss’s gymnastics, he has homework to do. I refuse
to buy one when an old sock does just as well. Are you with me? I love the busyness and energy of
this time of year but it really does force us to maximize our down time. When I pulled it out for
Mister Man yesterday at gymnastics, he gave me a weird look asking what it was. Outside of the
kitchen you’ll find her with her family (three boys, one husband, multiple exchange student
daughters, and Hank the pup), or gallivanting around the world with her fork in tow. It’s made by
Sterilite and they call it a shower caddy. For more about Boy Mama Teacher Mama, see our About
Page. Sometimes I will cover them using paper from a large paper roll to pretty them up a bit. But a
cart filled with new school supplies can still create that same sense of excitement that you get when
you shop for fresh school supplies each year. This whole kit can slip into their art drawer and when
they get home from school and are ready to get to work they know exactly where everything is. And
below all that I included pictures of two more kits. We have everything the wee ones could possibly
need (except, granted, a computer or printer) to get homework done, and it’s making our lives a
whole lot easier. I had the vast majority of the materials I needed already at home.
