According to Kirchengast (2014), a study was conducted in University of Vienna which revealed the
impact of sedentary and physically inactive lifestyles the in modern-era have contributed in the
increasing risk of chronic non-communicable diseases and declining overall health quality and well-
being (Kirchengast, 2014). To include, the author further explained how physical inactivity has been
causing various kind of health issues such as heart disease, hypertension, diabetes etc. The author
also explained how sedentary lifestyle can have a higher risk of having heart disease for about 45%,
nearly 60% risk for having a stroke, risk of having hypertension by 30%, and 50% risk for having
type 2 diabetes in the United States (Kirchengast, 2014). As per the evolutionary medicine, human
bodies are designed for physical activity, but the sudden switch to sedentary and modern lifestyle
have contributed to various health issues such as chronic diseases. To conclude, the author states
that it’s really important to realize and deal with the health problems by being physically active
during free time and understanding the health issues caused by reduced physical activity in the
modern era. (Kirchengast, 2014).

sedentary lifestyles. This report aims to explore three different strategies for
preventing physical inactivity using the criteria of physical health
consequences, mental health implications, and reduced quality of life.
