According to Tzankova-Kaloyanova (2020), a survey was conducted in Bulgaria in 2019 which


discussed the awareness of Bulgarians about the harmful effects of physical inactivity. As per the
information collected from the survey with 802 participants between the ages 18 to 65, it was
revealed that 54% of the respondents considered their lifestyle to be healthy, whereas 52% of them
considered their bodies as heavier than the normal. The author further mentions that the Researchers
from The World Health Organization's also found out that 62% of Bulgarians are overweight which
in return are contributing to health issues (Tzankova-Kaloyanova, 2020). In addition, the
participants of the survey also showed an awareness of health problems that can be caused by
reduced physical activity, with 70% of them believing that increased physical activity can improve
life quality, while 51% of the participants admitting to not engaging in physical exercises at all
(Tzankova-Kaloyanova, 2020). Lastly, the author suggests that by promoting the health benefits of
engaging in physical activity and also by creating educational campaigns can have a positive impact
on overall health and well-being emphasizing its role in preventing diseases and contributing to
health concerns in Bulgaria (Tzankova-Kaloyanova, 2020).

I am going to use the information from this source to show that reduced physical activity and sedentary
lifestyle can contribute to increased health issues and by promoting the benefits of engaging in regular
exercise, one can improve their overall health and well-being.

According to Kirchengast (2014), a study was conducted in University of Vienna which revealed the
impact of sedentary and physically inactive lifestyles the in modern-era have contributed in the
increasing risk of chronic non-communicable diseases and declining overall health quality and well-
being (Kirchengast, 2014). To include, the author further explained how physical inactivity has been
causing various kind of health issues such as heart disease, hypertension, diabetes etc. The author
also explained how sedentary lifestyle can have a higher risk of having heart disease for about 45%,
nearly 60% risk for having a stroke, risk of having hypertension by 30%, and 50% risk for having
type 2 diabetes in the United States (Kirchengast, 2014). As per the evolutionary medicine, human
bodies are designed for physical activity, but the sudden switch to sedentary and modern lifestyle
have contributed to various health issues such as chronic diseases. To conclude, the author states
that it’s really important to realize and deal with the health problems by being physically active
during free time and understanding the health issues caused by reduced physical activity in the
modern era. (Kirchengast, 2014).

physical activity in modern era and introduce wellness programs for individuals so that they can have a
healthy lifestyles.
