The parts & information in this kit DOES FIX them, REMEMBER: “Every customer deserves a trans that is working correctly, even the customers that don’t know the difference. LATE SHIFTS: (1-2 28-35 mph) (2-3 70-85 mph). FIXES: Accidental 1st gear or neutral at 40 to 55 mph when you only wanted passing gear. ‘SLOW, SOFT 1-2 SHIFT: And slide bump 1-2 shift has been corrected by recalibration of pressure and orificing. NEUTRAL—Over bump or RR. tracks. ‘SLOW, SOFT, EXTENDED or BIND UP 2-3 SHIFT: Has been corrected by performing the 23 shift 4-6 times faster. BAND FAILURE, with this transmission has two main causes, ‘A. From 35-60 when passing gear (3-2) is demanded the band does not apply rapidly enough and results in an accidently 3-1 shift which then slowly goes to 2nd until the band is finally too burnt to hold. This complaint/failure has been corrected by applying the band 6 to & times faster during 3-2 downshift Difficult to locate leaks of 3rd oil (high) allows the band to become partially applied while driving in 3rd, especially when hot. This is also the most common cause of high clutch failure. When the trans comes in with band and high clutch burned this is it. This kit ‘overcomes this failure by furnishing twice as much oil to the high clutch and 4 times as much oil to keep the band fully released in high, VERY IMPORTANT: When installing valve body, start all the bolts thoroughly (Finger Tight) before tightening valve body into position PAGE THREE 1 125 *TRANSCO 1982 ADDITIONAL REPAIR AND OVERHAUL INFORMATION CROSS LEAKS AND HOW TO FI Cross leaks between case and valve body are a common cause of complaints and failure in this transmission. File the case across the valve body area to at least knock down the high spots. FILE CASE COVER AND SPROCKET SUPPORT SURFACE TO PREVENT LOSS OF SRD OIL. DRILL STATOR SUPPORT DRAIN HOLE: This prevents blowing out FRONT SEAL and STOPS front seal leaks by exhausting pressure that accidently builds pon the seal:—Drilla i” hole through the Bell Housing Casting into the front seal area. Drill, rubbing against the stator support (It won't hurt it) on a 45° DOWN ANGLE about 1” to the right of top-center. we DRILL WARNING: Do not use metal sealing rings on inter- mediate Servo (Front Band Piston) The big ring cannot seal properly and will cause stacked shifts, high clutch failure in hot usage or warm weather, HIGH DRUM SURFACE: DRUM SURFACE WHERE BAND RIDES EXTREMELY IMPORTANT DURING OVER- HAUL: The portion of the drum that the band rides on must be sanded. Use 100-180 grit emery cloth or sand- paper and sand around drum. Donot sand front to back. If drum is scored from metal to metal contact with band, it must be replaced. INSTALLING FRONT SEAL: Use a MALLET (Plastic, Rubber, Leather) to install front seal. DO NOT USE A METAL HAMMER - the shock will popout the spring inthe seal and tear up the seal and convertor hub bushing. REMEMBER: How often you fix the Transmission CORRECTLY the FIRST TIME is what determines your success. WE CARE ABOUT YOU: Your success as a mechanic and as a person is important to us. We are grateful that you would use this information to doa better job for your customer. SPROCKET SUPPORT DIRECT CLUTCH CLEARANCE (FRONT): Installing all thick steel plates in the High Clutch will usually make it much too tight, causing Bind-Up 2-3 shift and severe reverse engagement. Install thinner forward clutch steel plates to get clearance of 035 to .070. VALVE BODY INTERCHANGE: We have found that valve bodies are very interchangeable provided you have the correct T.V. Boost Valve and Sleeve. OUR VERY BEST: To you and your customer. 8 Truly, GIL YOUNGER, (OVER)> ADDITIONAL REPAIR AND OVERHAUL INFORMATION T.V. ADJUSTMENT?
