WAT Assignment 1

India is not an emerging economy but a re-emerging economy.

India, often categorized as an emerging economy, is more accurately described as a re-emerging

economic powerhouse. Historically, India played a pivotal role in global trade and commerce, known
for its valuable commodities along the ancient Silk Road. However, colonial exploitation led to a
decline in its economic prominence. Post-independence, India initiated economic reforms in the
1990s, dismantling socialist policies and opening up to global markets. This marked a crucial turning
point, propelling India towards re-emergence on the global economic stage. The IT revolution in the
late 20th century showcased India's technological prowess, contributing significantly to the global IT
industry. India's demographic dividend, with a large and youthful population, is a key factor in its re-
emergence. The burgeoning labour force and a growing middle class provide the necessary
ingredients for sustained economic growth. Leveraging this demographic advantage, India is poised
to contribute significantly to innovation, productivity, and overall economic development. India's
economic resurgence is not a mere emergence but a reclaiming of its historical position as a vibrant
economic force. The journey from a colonial past to a thriving, dynamic economy highlights India's
resilience and adaptability. As the country continues to implement reforms and harness its
demographic dividend, it is poised to re-emerge as a significant player in the global economic arena.

WAT Assignment 2

Peace is Utopian. It can never exist.

The India Pak partition which took place in 1947 was based on Jinnah’s two nation theory, he
mentioned the need of a separate nation for the Muslims given the fact that he felt that the Muslim
population was not represented well by the then Indian Govt. He also felt that the civil unrest was
due to the difference in schools of thoughts of both the communities and hence the need for a
different nation was the need of the hour. Both of them were under the impression that this would
bring in major reforms but destiny had something else planned, when this partition was announced,
this led to one of the biggest civil unrests India had seen, a sea of people crossing the border running
to the localities they seemed are viable options for them was observed. The dust had almost settled
when then 1965 war broke out followed by the 1971 and then the 1999 Kargil war. The reason was
more or less the same-Territory. Pakistan has always been under the impression that Kashmir is
something which completely belongs to them given that they share similar roots but things are quite
different when looked with the help of a microscope. Even till date Pakistan makes attempts to
occupy certain parks of the Kashmir valley by the use of proxy elements present in the valley but all
their efforts are useless given the strong nation first approach by the people in the valley and of
course because of our reliable Indian Armed forces. The idea here is that no matter how hard we try
to establish conditions which foster harmony, mutual growth, there will be certain anti-social
elements which will try to disrupt the same. Peace has gotten a dynamic meaning now which is
subjective from place to place and from person to person.
WAT Assignment 3

Has Bollywood been instrumental in national integration in India? Your views on should cinema aim
to influence opinions of the public.

Media has been an instrumental part in not just the current civilization but in all the civilizations that
have existed till date. Be it Mohen-Jo Daro or the current human civilization. Media has gone through
a significant metamorphosis, it was not only a source of entertainment for us but also a way of
communicating ideas, it went on from being a static way of communication to a dynamic way of
communication. Media has taken many shapes and forms and one of the very recent ones have been
in the form of a movie or cinema. If we just talk about India in perspective, Cinema has played a very
vital role. With its inception in the late 1950s in the form of black and white mute movies. Raja
Harishchandra was the first movie which was shown on the big screen in India and that marked the
emergence of a global production workhorse, since then award-winning movies like Slumdog
Millionaire, My Name is Khan, Rang De Basanti, Swades have been successful in showing the vibrant
group of people, the cultures, the schools of thoughts and how different we are at an individual level.
They showcase the negatives and how we (the character in the movie overcomes them). Swades was
one of such examples, it showed the actual problem a lot of us still face is which is moving abroad in
the lieu of better opportunities to put our skill sets to good use but little do we know how much in
need are we of the same skill sets, this has indirectly led to a splurge in the formation of startups
which has pushed our nation 3rd on the list, right after USA and China. So, the media definitely acts as
a catalyst in the nation building process.
