TCOM 503 – Introduction to TCP/IP

Final Project: This project will be executed in the laboratories of the School of Engineering,
Universidad del Turabo in Caguas, Puerto Rico. Or a designated approved facility. Students will be
divided in groups of 4-5.

A. Problem definition
Each team must design and implement a Local Area Network in the classroom EDI-156 or the approved
designated facility, using a switch, a router and the appropriate servers in order to offer the following
services:

1. DHCP Server
2. Email Server
3. DNS Server
4. Web Server

In addition, each team must select the appropriate IP address configuration in order to make its network
able to communicate with the other teams’ networks.

B. Teams
Each team must be form up to five (5) students. Each student will be asked about the network
configuration, the failure to answer those questions will affect student’s grade. A written log of all
activities will be turned inn to your instructor/ lab supervisor.

C. Grading criteria
1. DHCP Server 10%: the network must allocate an IP Address to any computer connected to it.
2. DNS Server 10%: the connection from any client to any server must be using the domain name.
3. Webserver 10%: the team must construct a static web page which must be accessible from any
computer connected to the local network.
4. Email server 20%: Students must create email accounts using the domain name and the server must
allow email exchange between students’ local accounts.
5. Report 10%: students must document the process, configuration and network diagrams.
6. Defense 20%: students must be able to answer any question about the network configuration.
7. Connectivity 20%: local network must allow the connectivity with other teams’ networks using the
domain names.

D. Deadline:

All the grading criteria must be met on or before course completion date.
