The President might want to add new reading programs to help schoolchildren, or make it easier for sick people to buy medicine. For the President's ideas to become law, Congress must pass the law (agree to it) and provide the money to make it work. The President enforces the law. The President is the top law officer in the nation, with the power to make sure citizens obey the laws of our country. In rare — but dramatic — times, the President can also order army troops to enforce laws. 128 The President is host to other x nation’s leaders. The President invites ow other world leaders to his home, the White House, to have meetings and to show off American hospitality. When the President and first lady host a dinner party for important visitors, the dinner menu usually includes favorite foods from the guest's country. The President is a symbol of American leadership. He is the one person who represents our nation at home and around the world.
