INTRODUCTION
United Breweries Group or UB Group, based in Bangalore, is a conglomerate of different companies with a major focus on the brewery (beer) and alcoholic beverages industry. y The company markets of its beer under the Kingfisher brand. y United Breweries is India's largest producer of beer with a market share of around 48% by volume. y United Breweries now has greater than a 40% share of the Indian brewing market with 79 distilleries and bottling units across the world.. y UB financed a takeover of the spirits business of the rival Shaw-Wallace company giving it a majority share of India's spirits business. y The group owns the Mendocino Brewing Company in the United States.

HISTORY
The UB Group was founded by a Scottish gentleman Thomas Leishman in 1915. y In August 1947, Vittal Mallya became the company's first Indian director. y A year later he became the Chairman of the Group y In 1950s and 60s, the group expanded rapidly and made several acquisitions. y McDowell was added as one of the Group subsidiaries. y The Group moved into agro-based industries and medicines when it acquired Kissan Products and formed a long-term relationship with Hoechst AG of Germany to promote Aventis Pharma. y After Vittal Mallya's death in 1983, his son Vijay Mallya assumed the mantle of the group. y In 1988, UB Group acquired the global Berger Paints Group with operating companies across four continents
