Choose the right routine for the specific thinking you

want to encourage in your students.

Use them often. Use the same one often to help

students improve their thinking.

As you go through the routine, write down questions

students have. Refer to these questions to encourage
more discussion and to see growth.

Allow students to experience a productive struggle. As

they gain more experience, they will be able to be more
successful.

Model the routine for students. Work through it

together at first then slowly release control.
