90 Seconds Speaking
Write your speech, then say it out loud to make sure it is 90 seconds long.
The opening speech is what you and your partner will deliver at the beginning of
formal debate at the Global Classrooms (GC) Conference.
This is a 90-second speech that tells the other delegates at the conference your
country’s position/stance on the topic as well as your country’s
ideas/recommendations for potential resolutions.
Your opening speech will introduce you both and your country to everyone else at
the conference, so do your best to make a good first impression!
You and your partner will deliver the speech together and should speak for
roughly the same amount of time. It is up to you and your partner, however, to
figure out who will say what. Remember, the time limit is 90 seconds, so be sure
to practice it to ensure that it fits within the allotted time frame.
The following template is for you and your partner to use when writing your
opening speech. While you and your partner should try to be as creative as
possible, it is extremely important that you include all necessary/required
information without going over 90 seconds.
1st TEMPLATE
● Explain why the topic is important to your country and its effects on your
country.
● Mention and briefly discuss domestic/national actions that your country has
taken to address the issue.
● Mention and briefly discuss global/international actions that your country has
taken to address the issue.
● Briefly summarize your previous statements and end with a call to action.
Thank you. I yield my time to the Chair.
