About the Module

The Module is written to assist learners in studying ESP to help

them enjoy the subject. This is made to offer lessons and a collection
of activities patterned in the Most Essential Learning Competencies
(MELCS) of the Department of Education.

(This Module is designed to help the learners to integrate their

ability to evaluate life situations through the lens of biblical truth with
their other academic disciplines. Thus, learners will be challenged to
think critically and analytically, examine current events and assess
popular beliefs to find out what the Bible has to say about them. The
lessons are presented with simple information and attractive pictures.
Activities and self-assessment are also provided to know if the
learners have understood the certain topic.)

Leading God's people was a big job. There were plenty of people. Taking
care of them meant many problems for Joshua. Could he do the job?

God spoke to Joshua. "Be strong and brave. If you obey my Words, I will
always be with you. Don't be afraid. I will never leave you."

Joshua was glad to know that God would help him. Joshua was thankful

The Bible Tells Me That I Am Special

At the time God made Earth and Heaven before any grasses or shrubs had
sprouted from the ground, God had not yet sent rain on Earth. There was not
even anyone around to work the ground, so God formed man out of dirt from
the ground and blew into his nostrils the breath of life. Then the man came alive!

God planted a garden in Eden, in the east. He made all kinds of trees grow
from the ground, trees beautiful to look at, and fruits good to eat. There was also
in the middle of the garden a very special tree. Then God put the man in the
garden to work the ground and keep it in order. God said, "You are free to eat
from any tree in the garden. But you must never eat the fruit from the special
tree" God had formed all the wild animals and all the birds out of the ground.
Then he brought them to the man to see what he would call them. Whatever the
man called each creature became its name. So, the man named all the domestic
animals, all the birds, and all the wild animals.

One day, God thought of making a helper who is right for the man. He
caused him to fall into a deep sleep. While the man was sleeping, God formed a
woman from the rib that He had taken from the man. He brought her to the man.
God called the man Adam and the woman Eve. He told them that it was their job
to take care of Eden. God blessed them, saying, "All this is for you."

The Bible Says That God Helps Me Do Special
Things
Josiah was eight years old when he became king of Judah. He ruled 31
years from Jerusalem. He followed the example 1:13 of his ancestor David and
always obeyed God.

As years went by, King Josiah did the

right thing for God. He stopped the worship
of idols in different places. He tore down their
altars and statues. After cleaning the land,
King Josiah sent people to repair the temple
of God. A man named Hilkiah helped the king
during his' rule. He handled the money for
the repair and to pay the workers. While
cleaning the temple, Hilkiah found an old
book. It was the Book of God's Law. King
Josiah learned from the book that people did
not obey God.

The king asked the leaders and the people to come to Jerusalem. He had
the Book of God's Law read to them. Then the king promised to obey God and to
follow His laws. He asked everyone to make the same promise.

There has never been a king like King Josiah. He used his skill at a young
age to serve and obey God with all of his heart, with all of his mind, and with all
of his strength.

The city of Jericho had great, high walls. No one could climb over them.
When the people of the city locked up the gates, no one could go in or out of the
city.

When God's people came to Jericho, the city was all locked up. The people
of Jericho did not want God's people to come in. They also did not love God.

God told His people to take over the land. They were supposed to take
control of every city, including Jericho. But how would they ever get into Jericho?

But God had a plan. God told Joshua, the leader, to march around the city
walls once a day for six days. Then God said, "On the seventh day, march around
the city seven times. When you go around the seventh time, have the priests
blow their trumpets and have the people shout" At first, Joshua and the peon Pe
did not understand God's plan. But still, they obeyed God and did what they were
told.

On the seventh day, all God's people marched around Jericho. On the
seventh time around the city, the priests began to blow their trumpets, and the
people let out a loud shout. Do you know what happened? Those big, strong
walls of Jericho began to crumble and fall. God's people had obeyed Him. He had
caused the walls of the city to come crashing to the ground. God is always

LET’S GO!

The Bible Tells Me to Love God

One day, Jesus was teaching the people in the temple. One of them asked
Jesus, Teacher, which is the most important commandment in the Book of the
Law?

18
Jesus answered, "Love the Lord your God with all your heart, soul, and
mind. This is the first and most important commandment. The second most
important commandment is like this one: Love others as much as you love
yourself."

To love God with all your heart means that you should keep your heart
right before God. When you made a mistake or did something wrong, you have
to say sorry to God right away and to the person that you hurt. You must make a
promise not to do that mistake again. If somebody hurts you, you have to forgive
that person, so you will become friends again.

To love the Lord your God with all

your soul and with all your mind means
you should always think of God first. You
should always talk to God by praying and
reading the Bible day and night. Always
apply the lessons you learned from the
Bible.

To love your neighbor as you love

yourself means that you must do to other people what you would like them to do
to you. If you believe and obey these two commandments, then you will surely
live right with God.

The Bible Tells Me How to Pray
One day, Jesus was praying. When He finished, one of
his followers asked Him, "Lord, teach us how to pray Jesus
taught him the following:

When you pray, do not be like those show-offs who

love to stand up and pray in meeting places and on street
corners. They do this just to look good. When you pray, go into a
room alone and close the door. Pray to your Father in private. He
knows what is done in private, and He will reward you.

When you pray, do not talk on and on as people do

who do not know God. They think God likes to hear long prayers. Do not be like
them. Your Father knows what you need before you ask.

You should pray like this:

Our Father in heaven,

It is important to talk to God
help us to honor your name because:

Come and set up your kingdom, 1. God wants us to know Him.

God is Real
When you look around you, you see the things that God created. The trees
and flowers, the animals, and even people. We see that God cares for all the
things that He has made. Imagine what it would do to have no food to eat. How
would you feel? What if there was no water to drink? What would it be like to

26
have no home to live in and no clothes to wear? These are things we need to
survive. We will see how God cares for all things and can meet our needs.

Elijah was a man who loved God. He obeyed what God told him to do.
Ahab was the king of the land of Israel. He was a wicked man. King Ahab did not
serve God.

One day, Elijah went to King Ahab Elijah said, "King Ahab, because you will
not obey God, there will be no more rain in the land unless I command it.

If there was no rain, the food in the gardens would not grow. There would
not be any food to eat. With no rain, the lakes, rivers, and streams would dry up.
There would not be any water to drink. Do you think Elijah was afraid? The Bible
does not say if he was frightened, but it does tell us that Elijah obeyed God. Elijah
knew that God was powerful and could do anything.

God told Elijah to go to a stream named Kerith. While Elijah stayed there,
God took care of him. Every day birds brought Elijah bread and meat to eat. The

God Made the World We Live In

Imagine a world without trees and plants. What do you think the earth
would look like without animals, wind, or water? Before God created the world,
there was nothing. Everything was black.

31
God said, "Let there be light" and, just like that, there was light. He made
day and night on the first day.

On the second day, God made the sky above the waters. He said, "This is
good. God was happy with what He had made.

On the third day, God made the land, mountains and valleys, deserts and
plains. Then He put trees and grass, flowers and plants on the land He had made.

The next day, God made a special light for the daytime. It was the sun! For
the nighttime, God made the moon and all the twinkling stars. This was the
fourth day.

On the fifth day, God filled the sky with birds of every kind. He made
Maya's, ostriches, and eagles. Then He made fish live in water. There are so many
kinds of fish! From tie tiny goby to great big whales. God made them all.

The sixth day was very special. Do you know what God made on that day?
God made animals, all kinds of animals! He made big ones, little ones, short ones,
tall ones; striped, spotted, fast, and slow ones. God made everyone.

And then, can you guess what God made next? This was His best creation
yet. God made a person! Yes, God made man and woman.

eat? There was no grocery store for them to go to. There was no garden for them
to get food from People began to complain to their leader Moses.

God told Moses that He would give the people food to eat. Moses was not
afraid. He knew God would take care of them, even in the desert.

That evening, the sky grew dark but it was not a storm cloud. The cloud
was a huge flock of birds called quail flying towards the Israelites. The people
caught the birds and cooked them. They were happy to have meat to eat.

In the morning when the people came out of their tents, something
special had happened. On the ground were thin flakes. The people looked at it
and asked, "What is it?" Moses told the people. “This is the food God has given
you to eat."

All the people were happy. They all

gathered what they needed for that day.
The people called the food manna because
they didn't know what it was.

God Protects Me
For a long time, God's people had been slaves in Egypt. Then God sent a
man named Moses to lead His people out of Egypt to freedom. One-night God
had Moses gather the people together and they set out for a new home. Moses
led all God's people out of Egypt.

To get to the new home God had promised them, the people had to travel
a big wilderness. There were no towns, no restaurants, no hotels to rest in. As the
people traveled, they came to the Red Sea. They stopped there to camp.

38
But back in Egypt, Pharaoh was having second thoughts. Since he had let
all the slaves leave, who would do the work? The more he thought about this, the
angrier he got. Soon he shouted to his officers, "Gather the armies! Get the
horses and chariots! Let us go get the slaves back!" So, Pharaoh's armies set out.

They raced across the land after God's people. Soon the people could see
a big cloud of dust in the distance. They could hear the rumble of the chariots.
On one side of them was the Red Sea.

It stretched as far as the eye could see. On their other side was Pharaoh's
army. The army git closer and closer to them.

God told Moses not to be afraid. God said that He would protect them.
God told Moses to hold out his rod over the waters of the Red Sea. When Moses
did, the waters rolled back to make a dry path with walls of water on both sides.
It was a miracle! God's people hurried across the path. Now the ground was dry.
Their feet did not even get muddy.

Soon all of God's people were on the other side of the sea. But then
Pharaoh's armies began to cross the path, too. They were coming to get their
slaves. God told Moses to hold out his rod over the Red Sea again. When he did,
the waters came roaring back over the path in a great flood. The water swept the
horses and chariots of Pharaoh's army away. The army was drowned. God had
saved His people because He loved them.

Naaman and his wife had a servant girl. The girl told Naaman's wife about
a man named Elisha who could help him get healed. Elisha loved God. God would
tell Elisha how Naaman could get well.

Naaman heard about Elisha and wanted to see him right away. Naaman
went to Elisha's house. A servant came out and told Naaman about Elisha's
message: "Go and dip yourself in the Jordan River seven times and God will make
you well

Naaman was upset because Elisha did not see him as an important man.
But his servants encouraged him and told him to just do what Elisha said. So
Naaman did exactly what the servant of Elisha said: he dipped himself seven
times in the water. When he got out of the water, his skin sore was gone. He was
healed!

Naaman thanked Elisha and tried to give him gifts to show his gratitude.

Jesus is God's Gift of Love

One day, God sent an angel named Gabriel to a young woman named
Mary. Gabriel brought good news for Mary. "Do not be afraid, Mary. God sent
me to tell you that He is going to give you a baby boy. Name Him Jesus. He is
God's Son. He will save people from sin" Gabriel said.

This was God’s plan. God would send His Son to the world. He would be
born as a baby and He was a gift to everyone. Mary was very happy and began
preparing for the baby's birth.

When it was time for the baby to be born, Mary and her husband
Joseph traveled to Bethlehem to pay their taxes. Because many people had also
come to pay, there was no room in Bethlehem for Mary to stay.

Joseph and Mary had to stay in a stable, a resting place for animals.
There was no crib or bed. So, when Mary gave birth, she laid the baby Jesus in
a manger, a container for the animals' hay.

An angel appeared to shepherds taking care of their sheep

outside Bethlehem's walls. He told them, "Do not be afraid. I'm here to

tell you the good news! Today a baby was born in Bethlehem. He is God's
Son. You can find Him in a stable in a manger."

48
The shepherds hurried to Bethlehem and found the baby in the stable just
as the angel had said. Then they went away telling all that they had seen and
heard. They praised God for giving His Son, Jesus.

Jesus' birth is celebrated today as Christmas. People give each other gifts

Growing Like Jesus

Every year, Mary and Joseph
went to the city of Jerusalem to
celebrate a holiday in the temple.
Now that Jesus was 12, Mary and
Joseph took Him with them.

After the celebration was

over, Mary and Joseph began the
long journey back to their home.
They thought that young Jesus was
with them in the crowd, walking with
some friends or family members, but
He was not.

Mary and Joseph were

frightened. They did not know what happened to Jesus. They went back to
Jerusalem to look for Him. After three days, they found Him in the temple sitting
with the teachers, listening to them and asking them questions. The teachers
were amazed because He knew so much even if He was still a young boy. Mary
told Jesus that they were very worried about Him. Jesus explained that He had to
be in His Father's house. Hearing this made Mary wonder but she just kept
everything in her heart.

52
Jesus went back to Nazareth with His parents and obeyed them. Jesus

Jesus Shows Me
How to Care
The people were so
hungry. They had been listening
to Jesus all day long. They were so
interested in Jesus' teaching that

57
they listened until it was almost dinner time. Everyone was really hungry. But
there was no food around.

Jesus' followers came to Him and said, "Teacher, it is getting late, and
these people have no food. Send them away so they can go and buy food for
their dinner."

But Jesus answered, "They do not need to go away. Give them something
to eat."

Jesus' followers did not know how to feed more than 5,000 people. They
found out that there was a boy who had five loaves of bread and two small fish.

Jesus said, "Bring them to me" Then He had all the people sit down on the
grass. Jesus thanked God for the
food and began to break the five
loaves and two fish into pieces. He
gave the pieces to His followers to
give to the people. They passed the
bread and the fish around. What a
miracle! Jesus cares for the people.
When they all had enough to eat,
Jesus said to His followers, "Gather
the leftover pieces of fish and bread
so that nothing is wasted."

Jesus was teaching a large
crowd. Some of the people brought
their children to Jesus. They wanted
Him to bless their children. But Jesus'
disciples saw the children and began
to send them away. "Do not bother

62
Jesus" they said. "He has been teaching for a long time. He is tired. He needs rest.
Please leave Him alone."

The children were sad. They wanted to see Jesus. Their parents were sad.
They wanted Jesus to bless their little ones.

Jesus heard what His disciples said. He told them, "Let the little children
come to me. Do not stop them because the kingdom of heaven belongs to
people who are like these little children." Then Jesus held out His arms to the
children. He put His hands on the children's heads and blessed them. He also
prayed for them.

66
You are right, your teachers. Teachers are happy if their students learn what they
teach.

Jesus loves people. And because Jesus loved everyone so much, He

wanted them to learn about His Father, God. So, Jesus taught them about God.

Jesus taught the people many things. Jesus taught them to be happy.
Jesus taught them what they should do to have a good life Jesus taught them to
do what was right.

Jesus taught that they should help others and told them about God's love,
too. Jesus taught the people how to pray. He taught the people what was
important. "It is more important to obey God rather than to have great riches on
earth," He said.

Jesus taught the people that God took care of all their needs. Jesus said, "if
God feeds the tiny birds and dresses the flowers, He can do more for you."
People loved to listen to Jesus' teaching. Jesus told them stories about things
people could understand, stories about farmers, and stories about families. Jesus'
stories helped the people understand some of the hard lessons Jesus had to
teach them. Jesus was a good teacher. He cared about everyone and wanted

look everywhere-by the stream where the sheep drank water; in the fields where
the sheep grazed on nice green grass; near the bushes where a young sheep
could get tangled in the thorny branches. He would look along the hillside and
over the cliffs where a sheep could fall and get hurt.

And when the shepherd finally found his sheep, he would pick it up and

Jesus was heading Zacchaeus' way. Zacchaeus wanted to see what He was like so
he ran ahead to a place where Jesus would pass. But Zacchaeus was a short man
and could not see over the crowd. So, he climbed up a sycamore tree so he could
see Him. When Jesus came to that place, He looked up and said to him,
"Zacchaeus, hurry down! I must stay at your house today. Zacchaeus came down
quickly and welcomed Him gladly.

80
Everyone saw this and began to complain, "This man Zacchaeus is a sinner!
And Jesus is going home to eat with him.

Later that day, Zacchaeus stood and said to the Lord, "I will give half of my
possessions to the poor. And to those I have cheated, I will pay them back four

I Will Forgive
One day, Peter came up to Jesus and asked, "Lord, how many times must I
forgive my brother when he does something to hurt me? Up to seven times?"

84
Jesus answered, "I tell you, not seven times, but seventy-seven times."

Then Jesus told Peter the Story of the Unmerciful Servant.

Jesus said, "The kingdom of heaven is like a king who talked to a servant
who borrowed a lot of money from the king. But the man could not return the
money, so the king ordered that the man must sell himself, his wife, and his
children to be able to pay back the money.

The servant begged hard, 'Be patient with me, I will pay back everything!
The king felt sorry for the servant, erased the debt that he owed, and let him go.
When the servant went out, he found out that one of the other servants owed
him a small amount of money. He grabbed him and hurt him. "Pay me back!" he
demanded. The other servant begged him. "Be patient with me, I will pay you
back!" But the forgiven servant did not listen to his fellow servant and had him
arrested and put in jail until he could pay back the money.

Other servants felt sad about what happened. They told the king what had
happened. The king called for the forgiven but unmerciful servant and reminded
him of how he was shown forgiveness and although he did not return a large
amount of money. Yet, he did not forgive his fellow servant for a small amount of
money. He was punished and jailed.

This is how my Heavenly Father will treat each of you unless you forgive
your brother from your heart" Jesus said.

Hebrews 13:5a

LET’S GO!

I Will Be Thankful
Solomon was a very rich
king. As he grew richer, he learned
more important life lessons. He
learned that the more money
people had, the more they wanted.
Rich people could not sleep and
become frustrated. They kept on

88
thinking about their wealth and who would take care of it when they die. This is
because you cannot take any wealth with you after you die. Solomon was also
wise. He decided that instead of worrying about being rich, he would try to enjoy
life and allow God to give him joy in his heart.

One night, God appeared to him in a dream and said, "Solomon, ask for
anything you want, and I will give it to you"

Solomon answered, "Lord, I am your servant, and you have made me king
in my father's place. But l am very young and know so little about being a leader.
And now I must rule your chosen people, even though there are too many of
them to count. Please make me wise and teach me the difference between right
and wrong. Then I will know how to rule your people."

Then God said, "Solomon, I am pleased that you asked for this. You could
have asked to live a long time or to have more riches. or you could have asked
for your enemies to be destroyed. Instead, you asked for wisdom to make the
right decisions. So, I will make you wiser than anyone who has ever lived or ever
will live. I will also give you what you did not ask for. You will be rich and
respected as long as you live, and you will be greater than any other king. If you
obey me and follow my commands, as your father David did, I will let you live a
long time."

Solomon woke up and realized that God had spoken to him in the dream.
He went back to Jerusalem and offered sacrifices to please the Lord.
