In Mariátegui's works, sometimes terminologies different from the
ones readers today are familiar with are used. Far example, the word "na­
tional bourgeoisie" is used to refer to the ruling bourgeoisie of a nation, i.e.,
the big comprador and bureaucrat bourgeoisie, who promotes bureaucrat
capitalism and is against the development of national capitalism. The na­
tional bourgeoisie defined by Chairman Mao Zedong was referred to by
Mariátegui as "middle bourgeoisie".
This is just one example - for many decades, revisionists have
sought to distort the words of the Amauta to serve their own agenda,
whether the theory of "dependent capitalism" or the claim that Mariátegui
was an "anti-Stalinist" and "heterodox Marxist".
To gain a better introduction to the life and work of J.C.
Mariátegui, we highly recommend reading Dr. Abimael Guzmán's speech
"To Understand Mariátegui", which can be found in the preface of "Seven
Interpretive Essays on Peruvian Reality" by Fourth Sword Publications.
