The Factories Act, enacted in the year 1948. The act is to provide protection to the exploited workers and improve the working conditions in the industries and factories.
Need of Factory Act
Because of globalization and modernization many chemical industries involving toxic and hazardous substances were coming into existence and it created more and more problems and hindered every aspect of the workers such as safety, working conditions etc. So, factory act was introduced to ensure the proper working conditions of the workers, health and safety so that they can devote more time and labour in the working process of the factory without the terror of accidents and body strain.
Important Provisions of Factory Act 1948:
1. Fixed working hour. Working hour is 48 hours a week or 9 hour in any day. If the worker works more than this, he/she is entitled for overtime allowance. 2. Proper leave management. 3. In every factory effective arrangements shall be made to provide, at suitable points conveniently situated for all workers employed therein, a sufficient supply of wholesome drinking water. 4. Every dangerous part of any machinery shall be securely fenced and constantly maintained to keep it in position. 5. In every factory wherein more than thirty women workers are ordinarily employed, there shall be a suitable room or rooms for the use of children under the age of six years of such women. Such rooms shall provide adequate accommodation, lighting and ventilation with clean and sanitary condition.
