First Steps

Lab Description
In this exercise, we'll learn how to access the Sightline graphical interface, and then we'll get
started and take a closer look at the UI navigation options available.

the order described.
1. Connecting to Sightline

1 Login to the Sightline Deployment

1. Connect to this URL, if this page is not already open:


https://slvis1.ne.netscout.com/
2. If prompted, you must first authenticate with the lab proxy, after that you will
be redirected to the Sightline login page.
3. At the Sightline login page, use the credentials again to login.
4. Notify the proctor if you are unable to connect to your Sightline.

2 Once logged On, the My Sightline page should be displayed. Take a look at the
information displayed and answer the following question. What content if any is

3 Select the (+) Add Module button and modify your page as you wish. These
settings will only affect your user login account.

4 By using the top menu, browse to the page System > Status > Appliance
Status and answer the following questions:

How many appliances are listed?

How many TMS are configured?

Which appliance is the deployment Leader?

Is a there Backup Leader configured?

5 You need to find the software version used on this deployment. Click on the
[+] icon next to the listed appliances to obtain more information.
Can you find the Sightline version used on the Leader
appliance?

Can you find the Leader appliance uptime?

6 By using the top menu, browse to the page System > Status > Routers to review
this deploymentand answer the following questions:

How many routers are monitored?

Which license types were


assigned?
Can you see on this page if flows
are successfully received from all Yes No
monitored routers?

If not, which router is experiencing

Finished Browse to the page Reports > Network > Dashboard. Then move to the tab called
Traffic.
Which BGP origin ASN sends most of the traffic into
this monitored network?
Which is the second highest utilized peer that you
exchange traffic with?

8 As flows received by Sightline don’t include any BGP information, how was Sightline
able to build these ASN graphs?
To illustrate, we will search the BGP information available on Sightline for an IP
address belonging to Google: 64.233.160.1
Using the menu and go to the page Explore > Routing > IPv4 Routing
Table
Under Filter 1, select less-specific-prefix and enter the value: 64.233.160.1
Click on Update
Check Solution

You should get a similar result:

Note: ASN 15169 belongs to Google LLC
