John Dickerson: Japanese billionaire [sic] is the first
passenger to book a trip to the Moon on a SpaceX
rocket. CEO Elon Musk joined Yusaku Maezawa
at the company’s California headquarters
yesterday. Maezawa paid an undisclosed amount
to ride on SpaceX’s new Big Falcon Rocket.
Dickerson: Musk says the Moon Project will
1( cost five billion dollars ) and could be
ready as early as 2023. Mireya Villarreal
spoke to the Japanese billionaire after the
announcement.
Yusaku Maezawa: I 2( choose to go ) to the Moon.

Mireya Villarreal: In front of a packed house,


SpaceX founder, Elon Musk, introduced his
newest partner in space exploration, billionaire
Yusaku Maezawa.
Maezawa: I thought about how I can 3( give
back ) to the world, and how this can
contribute to world peace. This is my
life-long dream.
Villarreal: The founder of Japan’s largest retail
website, Maezawa purchased every seat on
the trip and plans to bring 4( up to eight
artists ) along for the ride.
Maezawa: These artists will be asked to create
something after they return to Earth. And
these masterpieces will ... will inspire the
dreamer within all of us.
Villarreal: The BFR rocket will be nearly 400 121.92
feet long and equipped with a reusable meters
booster rocket that will produce 200 tons of
thrust. The plan is to 5( send passengers
around ) the Moon and back, a more than
475,000-mile journey, in about five days.

Elon Musk: This is a dangerous mission. Yes … But
it’s definitely dangerous.
Maezawa: I’m not afraid of [sic] at all.
Villarreal: You’re not afraid at all?
Maezawa: No.
Villarreal: Why? How?
Maezawa: I trust the SpaceX team.
Villarreal: But SpaceX has 6( had problems
meeting ) deadlines. Its last rocket, the Falcon
Heavy, had its first successful launch nearly five
years later than expected.

succeed in getting this to flight. But we’re
