This experiment focuses on the use of the Function generator (FG) and Digital Storage Oscilloscope and to understanc the proper working of FG and DSO. Brief Theory and Circuit Diagram Function Generator- Function generator is an electronic equipment used to generate different type of electrical waveform over a wide range of frequencies. An oscilloscope is a device used for testing signal voltages and to reconstruct the waveform on the screen. 0 (ot et ee SS Digital storage escolloscope Function generator is used to provide signals of particular voltages and shape and oscilloscope is mostly used to analyze signals. The purpose of this experiment is to generate signal with the help of function generator and measure them on digital storage oscilloscope. This Experiment involves the use of FG and DSO- Funetion Generator Oscilloscope Above Figure shows the experiment setup in which the two devices are connected using BNC cable. 1, SINE WAVEFORM :- 5sin(10000ut) freq = 10 kHz 2. Effect of Channel Input Coupling Modes (DC and AC modes) (a) DC Mode DC mode shows full signal along with average value and offset is the average of peak to peak voltages. In DC mode ,voltage of square wave varies from Ov to 7v so the offset is 3.5v. 2. AC mode Offset in AC mode is zero. AC mode shows the mean value. In this square waveform voltages varies from ~3.5v to 3.5v hence the offset is zero. 3. XY Plot Using DSO Generating a waveform of 5sin(1000nt) to observe XY plot in different mode. (2). XY Plot in GND mode : Connecting the BNC cable of DSO's channel 1 and 2 to the Output of the Function Generator. Putting the CHI and CH2 input mode to GND and scope in XY mode We Observe a dot at origin. (b). XY Plot in DC mode: Putting CHI and CH2 input mode to DC we observe a waveform shape of straight line and the slope of the X-Y plot is 1 Above figure shows the graph between the amplitude of both signals received on CHI and CH2 Both waveform are similar so the XY plot of the waveforms is a straight line with slope 1 Now Using 2 simple potential divider using two 10k resistors and connecting the circuit as shown below the diagram- 1K ton channel erator 1 Channel 2 The potential difference across channel 2 reduces to half so XY plot changes and the slope of the straight line becomes 0.5 CONCLUSION : In this lab we used the Function Generator and Digital Storage Oscilloscope to generate and measure different type of voltage signals (sine , square, triangular, ramp. etc) respectively. Internal impedance of Function Generator is 50 ohm and internal impedance of Digital Storage Oscilloscope is 1 M ohm. The problem while performing this experiment is If we generates a particular signal in function generator but it displays something else ,in such case we can Check for two things :~ (a)Check for the high impedance load settings in the output of function generator. (b)Check the channel properties in the DSO probe multiplication factor. If we want no scaling on the signal then probe multiplication factor should be 1.
