Following guidelines concerning systematic and scientific methods in sand quarrying should be observed during quarrying operations, ‘Protection and restoration of the ecological system. ‘Prevention of damages to the river regime * Towork out the sediment influx / replenishment capacity of the river. * To restore the river configuration - landforms and fluvial geomorphology such as bank erosion, change of river course etc. * To prevent contamination of ground water regime. * To prevent depletion of ground water reserves due to excessive draining out of ground water. Environmental status of the mined out area may be affected badly if’ proper care is not taken to ensure sustainable extraction of sand from river bed. Proper study of the following factors must be taken into consideration to reveal the actual potential of sand deposition in river course after completion of periodical excavation annually. The main factors required to be considered for the study of the replenishment potential of particular river course are: Formation of sand comprises of the following: Catchment area and geological strata, Erosion. weathering Climatic conditions, Pre: Geomorphology. In the applied area, replenishment depends upon the yearly rainfall, if adequate amount of sand will not replenish during monsoon then excavation of sand will be limited to the quantity which will be equivalent to the replenished material up to a maximum depth of 3m only.
