4 STEPS TO MAKE READING AND STORYTELLING FUN

REAL
Have fun with different tones and voices for various characters. Use loud and
soft articulation, and high and low pitches, to emphasize certain points. When the story is
about to get to its most exciting part, drop your volume to almost a whisper. You’d be
amazed at how dramatic this could be.

ENGAGE
The story should interest your child. You can and should also use props to engage her. In
fact, anything around the house can become a prop. All you need is imagination.

ALLOCATE TIME
Storytelling should not be rushed or considered a bonus activity, should time permit.

DEVELOPMENTALLY APPROPRIATE
Choose a plot and vocabulary that is suitable for your child. If you find yourself explaining
too much, it’s too challenging.

Above all, have fun with her. If you enjoy the storytelling sessions, there’s no doubt she’ll
love them, too.
