1 Safety Instructions
The service manual contains basic instructions which must be complied with when
repair work is being carried out. Accordingly, the service engineer must not fail to read
this service manual before carrying out any repair work. It must be accessible at all
times at the place where the unit is being operated. Furthermore, not only the general
safety instructions contained in this section should be observed, but also the special
safety instructions in the other main sections.

1.1 Marking of Instructions in the Service Manual

The safety instructions contained in this service manual which must be observed to
avoid danger to personal safety are marked with danger symbols:

safety symbol as per DIN 4844 - W9 for general hazards

Personnel carrying out repair work on this unit must possess the appropriate
qualifications for the work. The owner must lay down precise rules regarding the area of
responsibility, duties and supervision of personnel. If the personnel do not have the
necessary skills, they should be trained and instructed accordingly. If necessary, this
can be done by the manufacturer or supplier at the owner’s request. In addition, the
owner must ensure that his personnel fully understand the contents of the service
manual.

environment and the unit. If you do not comply with the safety instructions, you may
forfeit all claims for compensation.

In particular; non-observance of safety instructions may entail the following hazards:

m serious malfunctioning of the unit

m failure of the methods prescribed for maintenance and repair
m endangerment of persons by electrical, mechanical and thermal influences.

1.4 Safety-Conscious Working

The safety instructions contained in this service manual, existing national regulations
concerning accident prevention, and any internal work, operational and safety
regulations of the owner must all be observed.

1.5 Safety Instructions for the Service Engineer

Electrical hazards must be prevented (for details see the VDE regulations and those of
the local electricity supply company etc.).

1.6 Safety Instructions for Repair Work

The owner must ensure that all repair work is carried out by authorised and qualified
technicians who have familiarised themselves in depth with the service manual.
The unit must always be disconnected from the power supply before carrying out repair
work of any kind.
Immediately after finishing the repair work, all safety devices and guards must be
refitted or reactivated.

4.1 Description of the Product

WARNING
VISIO ALFA requires a 230 V AC/120 V AC power supply.
Parts of the unit therefore carry dangerous voltages! Always
unplug at the mains before carrying out any repair work.
Observe the applicable accident prevention and VDE
regulations, as well as the operating instructions for VISIO
ALFA. To avoid injury and/or damage to the unit, it is es-
sential to follow the correct sequence of individual repair
steps.
Before putting into operation, ensure that the operating
voltage and frequency indicated on the rating plate matches
the available mains voltage and frequency. An incorrect
setting may damage the unit irreparably.

VISIO ALFA is a light unit for prepolymerisation and interim polymerisation of

composite veneering material and light-cured dental materials. A light barrier controls
the light source automatically as soon as the veneer is brought close to the lamp from
below. This light barrier, consisting of a transmitter and receiver, is located in the vicinity
of the light outlet. The transmitter radiates infrared light. When an object is held in front
of the light outlet, the IR light emitted by the transmitter is reflected and received by the
phototransistor. In the event of overheating, a thermostatic switch interrupts the lamp’s
power supply until the unit has cooled down. The internal fan provides constant air
exchange inside the unit. The orange filter prevents any risk of dazzle even when the
unit is in continuous use. The filter can be fixed in various positions.
To activate the unit, connect to the mains and switch on at the power switch on the
right side of the housing. The fan starts up and the unit is ready for use.

Valid up to serial no. 90A1350

Take a sheet of white paper and hold it under the light outlet. The light must switch on
for approx. 5 secs and then go out, provided the paper has been removed again.
Otherwise the light will stay on.

Valid up to serial no. 90A1351

Take a sheet of white paper and hold it under the light outlet. Now the light must switch
on and stay on for 6 secs irrespective of whether the paper is removed again or not.

4.2 Troubleshooting

WARNING
Before putting VISIO ALFA into operation, ensure that the
operating voltage indicated on the bottom of the unit
matches the available mains voltage.

m External inspection for mechanical defects

Before troubleshooting, inspect the unit for mechanical defects.

m Inspecting the optical components

Screw the delivery rod out of the holder and inspect it for dirt and damage.
Remove the lamp from the holder and check that the glass is not blackened and
that it is fitted securely. If necessary, change the lamp.
Inspect the optical filter for damage and dirt. If necessary, change the filter or clean
it with a lint-free cloth dampened with alcohol.

m Carry out troubleshooting in the sequence shown in the following troubleshooting
