1. A boy walks 40 m North, then 30 m West, and finally 90 m South. If this entire motion takes
2.50 minutes, determine his: a) average speed b) average velocity (mag and dir)
2. A boat sails the following course: 300 m at 40 E of S, and then 600 m at 10 S of W.
Sketch the vector that represents the overall displacement.
3. A person walks the following path: 120 m South, then 250 m at 20.0 W of N, and finally,
400 m at 35.0 N of E. What is her overall displacement (mag and dir)?

4. A boat can travel at 10.0 m/s in still water. Starting on the shore, the boat is headed (aimed) East
across a 240 m wide river. If the current in the river is 7.50 m/s South, then determine:

c) how far downstream the boat travelled
5. A boat can travel at 12.0 m/s in still water. The boat is located on the northern shore of the river

can be ignored, determine:

9. A golf ball is struck from the ground at a velocity of 81.0 m/s and at an angle of 27.0 above
the horizontal. Assume air resistance can be ignored.

1. A spring is attached to a 540 g cart and it oscillates in horizontal SHM. The minimum length
of the spring is 7.20 cm and the maximum length of the spring is 13.9 cm. If the cart’s
maximum acceleration is 11.6 m/s2, then determine the stiffness (spring constant) of the spring.
2. A mass is attached to a vertical spring and undergoes vertical SHM, making 15.0 oscillations
in 8.40 s. If the spring constant is 33.0 N/m, then determine the mass.
4. A mass-spring system is oscillating in vertical SHM with a period T. What happens to this period

5. A pendulum is oscillating with a period T. Determine the effect on the frequency if:
