Padlet Response Collection

Each module of this course will have a Padlet early on, asking for your response to various
things related to the upcoming course content. It’s a nice way for us to connect with each other
and get some insight to each other’s thinking.

Your responses are worth marks. In order to hand out those marks, we need you to collect your
own responses and submit them in a dropbox. So please use this document to copy and paste
your padlet responses in, save it, and come back with your next response the next week (and
so on)

Unit 1 Padlet: HR role

Response
It is not story anymore that the Covid-19 virus outbreak changed everything about life in general
the way we knew it. Organizations were not spared (how work is done). This inevitably affected
the role played by those saddled with the responsibility to manage the Human Resources (HR)
of these organizations. According to Hilton (2020) HR roles became a lot more dynamic, with
initiatives promoting employee mental health at the forefront amongst others such as employee
welfare, remote work strategies, virtual collaborations, getting the much-needed tools for the
way work is now done and formulating flexible polices to drive the inevitable challenges that
comes with the new normal. Emphasis is now no longer on the usual HR functions alone, rather
on promoting a workforce that is motivated and adaptive to the new phase of work.

Unit 2 Padlet: Strategizing

Response
My strategy to performing well and getting an A in this course (HRM):
Create a detailed study plan that includes regular review sessions, active engagement with
course materials, and practical applications of concepts.
Prioritize understanding key concepts as it is vital for my success in HRM, and case studies.
Collaborate with my colleagues via discussions using both the critical thinking platform and
anywhere else the opportunity presents to do so, and consider seeking guidance from my
instructor as the need arises.
Stay organized, manage my time effectively, and utilize resources like the chapter slides,
textbooks, online articles, and academic journals.
Regularly assess my progress and adjust my plans where necessary and expect the best
results.
Good luck to me!
Unit 3 Padlet: Diversity

Response
Reflecting on my journey of working with people of diverse backgrounds, it reminds me of the
vibrant tapestry of experiences that have made my professional life as rich.
In my role as a project manager at an indigenous company, I've had the privilege of
collaborating with individuals from different walks of life. The most memorable experience was
been part of a cross-functional team on a project aimed at setting up educational platform.
We had a beautiful blend of diversity in our team. From Sarah, a seasoned executive with
decades of industry expertise, to Jamal, a fresh graduate eager to make his mark, we all
brought a unique perspective to the team. Jamal infused our meetings with youthful enthusiasm
and a fresh perspective. His curiosity and willingness to learn sparked innovative ideas, pushing
us to think outside the box and embrace new approaches. It was just right amount of gender,
blended with cultural nuances, backgrounds intersecting, creating unforgettable moments of
connections. In the midst of collaboration, age, gender, education, race, and professional
background ceased to be barriers; rather, they became catalysts for personal growth.
Looking back, I'm reminded of the power of diversity to inspire, challenge, and unite us in our
pursuit of excellence. Embracing diversity is truly transformative, it birthed something truly
extraordinary.

Unit 4 Padlet: Job Analysis

Response
The COVID-19 pandemic has left no stone unturned in reshaping the landscape of work as we
once knew it. As one known as project manager, my job description to remote project
management emerged as a necessity rather than a luxury, and it gradually became the new
normal. Now, I find myself immersed in a world where the mastery of collaborative tools, the
cultivation of seamless communication channels, and the provision of essential hardware are
integral components of my toolkit. It's a realm where dependable internet services are the
lifeblood of productivity (no thanks to been in a developing country), and problem-solving isn't
just a skill—it's a survival tactic ingrained in the very fabric of my job description. The pandemic
reshaped how we work, but it also showed me how resilient we can be when we face
challenges together.

Unit 5 Padlet: Recruitment

Response

The covid-19 outbreak has significantly shifted recruitment practices, paving the way for more
prevalent practices such as virtual interviews and evaluations as remote work has become the
order of the day. There is now more emphasis on acquiring soft skills as greater number of
companies move towards incorporating video conferencing apparatuses and digital platforms as
part of the hiring processes. Beyond just for successfully securing a job, soft skills are now a
requirement as the work environment keep evolving, employee adaptability and resilience is
now more than ever vital for organizations. Covid-19 made adoption of technology inevitable, as
most companies not only incorporate tech in their onboarding of new employees, also
encourage teams towards working remotely.

Unit 6 Padlet: Interview Questions

Response

1. If you could have dinner with any historical figure, who would it be and why?
2. If you were a vegetable, which one would you be and why?
3. What's your spirit animal and how does it relate to your work ethic?
4. If you could be any character from 'Game of Thrones', who would you be and why?
5. What's the most adventurous thing you've ever done and how does it reflect your approach
to life?
6. If you were a superhero, what would your superpower be and why?
7. How many cows are there in Nigeria?
8. If you were stranded on a deserted island, what three things would you bring with you?

Unit 7 Padlet: Job Training

Response

In my professional experience, undergoing minimal or no on-the-job training is an experience I

wouldn't recommend for any employee. While my situation didn't involve safety issues, feeling
overwhelmed, uncertain about assigned tasks, and unsure about responsibilities is highly
challenging. The added pressure of being accountable for any errors only exacerbates the
situation, leading to heightened feelings of insecurity.

The lack of adequate training caused me to doubt my abilities and contend with constant
anxiety, resulting in a higher incidence of mistakes. Despite my inclination to seek clarification or
ask questions, the fear of appearing incompetent inhibited open communication. Consequently,
my productivity suffered for an extended period.

Employers must understand the importance of providing training opportunities. Even a basic
orientation program can greatly contribute to achieving organizational goals by equipping
employees with the necessary knowledge and skills to fulfill their roles effectively.

Unit 8 Padlet: Performance Evaluation

Response

An instance that significantly resonates with me occurred when my organizational unit

unexpectedly introduced an annual appraisal system, during which my performance rating was
disappointingly low. This outcome left me feeling undervalued, unappreciated, and unfairly
treated in light of the dedication I consistently exhibited. Moreover, there were instances where I
extended assistance to fellow colleagues in completing their tasks. Consequently, for a brief
period thereafter, my work became devoid of interest, and I found myself lacking enthusiasm for
any tasks at hand.
While I acknowledge the importance of evaluations within organizational frameworks, I believe it
imperative that the evaluation processes be transparent, providing employees with clear criteria
for assessment. Furthermore, evaluators ought to possess comprehensive insight into the
responsibilities associated with each role to mitigate against the possibility of biased or unjust
judgments stemming from incomplete or inaccurate evaluations.

Unit 9 Padlet: Compensation

Response

The COVID-19 pandemic left a profound impact on compensation practices across industries
and organizations. My firsthand experience, particularly regarding the widespread transition to
remote work aimed at ensuring both employee safety and business continuity, prompted a re-
evaluation of compensation strategies. This shift sparked discussions on various factors such as
location and the cost of living, all of which greatly influenced the fairness and equality of
compensation packages.
As a project manager, navigating through these discussions was particularly challenging, given
the diverse needs and circumstances of team members. Balancing the desire for uniform
benefits with the reality of differing challenges, such as inconsistent electricity supply and poor
internet connectivity in certain locations, underscored the complexity of crafting an inclusive
compensation strategy.
In light of these experiences, several valuable lessons emerged. Firstly, HR managers must
prioritize fairness and equity by acknowledging the essential contributions of all employees,
especially during challenging periods like the COVID-19 pandemic. Recognizing and
compensating employees for their efforts through bonuses, and other forms of compensation
not only fosters morale but also reinforces the sense of value within the organization.
In conclusion, the pandemic has catalyzed rethinking compensation practices, highlighting the
importance of adapting to evolving circumstances while upholding principles of fairness and
recognition of employees' contributions. Moving forward, HR professionals must continue to
refine compensation strategies to ensure they reflect the diverse needs and challenges faced by
employees in an ever-changing work environment.
