LEARNING
OBJECTIVES
This session will help players:
• scan the environment to take in their surroundings
• work on their positioning to receive the ball
• improve their communication and decision-making skills when passing.

ORGANISATION
• Set up a small area suitable for your team’s age and stage of development – our exam-
ple is 24x12 yards
• Put a goalkeeper on either side of your area, they can move along the end lines
• Have seven players within the area to create a 3v3 in the middle, with the extra player
acting as a ‘pivot’ – or a ‘floater’ – to play for the side that’s in possession
HOW TO PLAY
• One of the goalkeepers starts the practice by passing to one of the teams in the middle
• The pivot joins the team in possession to create a 4v3 – they always play for the side
that’s on the ball
• The team with possession attempt to maintain it for as long as possible and, ultimately,
work together to keep getting the ball from one keeper to the other
• If they lose possession, the roles switch, so they’re now underloaded and need to try to
win the ball back
• Award a point each time a team successfully combines to get the ball from one keeper
to the other
• Play this for 90 seconds and have four rounds, then tally up the scores
