SLURRY PUMPS

SLURRY PUMPS
McLanahan’s centrifugal Slurry Pumps are available in eight discharge port sizes from
1½ in. to 10 in. (35mm to 250mm) pumping 20-6000 USGPM (4.5-1360 m3/hr)
and feature abrasion resistant lining options for long lasting service and lower cost of
ownership.

Wetted Parts
Standard pumps are equipped with natural rubber liners and impellers. Options
are available to suit a specific process including hardness of rubber, synthetic rubber
and food grade rubber, as well as hi-chrome impellers. Impellers are available in closed
vane and open vane configurations for most smaller sizes.

Motor and Drive

Installed Group of Slurry Pumps
McLanahan supplies pumps bare-shaft or complete with overhead, side or Z motor
mounting, and V-belt drive with guard. Specialized motors and variable frequency
drives are available.

Bearings
Heavy-duty roller bearings take the radial load at the wet end. Self-aligning double-row
spherical roller bearings handle the radial and axial loads at the drive end. No shims/
pre-loads are required to set up during reassembly.

Spares
High quality spare parts are available, including field replaceable casing and suction
bush linings and impellers. Some parts are available in various materials and hardness
to suit different applications. Mechanical spares, such as gland repair parts and bearing
assembly repair parts, are available in kit form, as well as full bearing assemblies.

Gland/Seal Options
Gland sleeves, manufactured in stainless steel, are standard to protect the shaft. All glands
when properly maintained are expected to have slight leakage to atmosphere. McLanahan
can supply an optional drip tray to capture this fluid.

Drain Plugs
McLanahan Pumps feature a drain plug located at the bottom center of the suction casing
for overnight draining during cold weather or full winterizing of the pump.

Assembly Aid
In some areas, McLanahan Pumps feature an assembly aid that allows the suction plate to Drain Plug

Applications
McLanahan Pumps are used for a wide range of applications, including sand plants, coal
preparation, chemical and environmental, cement manufacture, metallifferous mining,
paper mills, steel works, stone works, power stations and China clay production.

Technical Data
Standard Casings are designed for a working pressure of 90 psi. For higher pressures,
please contact McLanahan. Suction and discharge flanges are available in metric and
ANSI drilling patterns. Orientation of discharge is available in up to four diffferent positions.
This range of pumps is designed and manufactured in accordance with the apporpriate
International Quality Standards, such as ISO 9000. Assembly Aid

Computer-Aided Pump Engineering

McLanahan’s experienced process engineers utilize a proprietary software program for simulation and analysis. Data input can include altitude,
liquid and mass flow rates, slurry density, particle size, discharge height, distance and pressure, particle shape, pipeline fittings and more. The
program provides options in impeller configuration, and where several pump sizes can be used for a single duty, further analytics are available.

The program analyzes effects of changing density and calculates critical settling velocity and friction losses. It graphs the system curve, NPSH,
power and efficiency. Inputs can be entered in either metric or imperial units with outputs in appropriate units.

Pump selection output includes the graph and data sheet for downstream use by customers, consultants and OEMs. McLanahan process
engineers can also recommend various configurations, including series and parallel pumping, piping type and diameter where friction and
wear can be opposing considerations for design.

Pump Selection
Use this chart to determine the best pump for your application. These curves represent the wide choice of pump options to suit most pumping
applications. The curves are basd on water only being the standard basis for inputing specific operational parameters.
