COST 102 – COSTUME HISTORY

NAPOLEONIC ERA MILITARY SKETCHES Due Dec. 1

Research, Document and provide historically accurate sketches for 2 different
military styles of the Napoleonic era.

i.e. Generals, Foot Soldiers, Sailors, Cavalry of two countries, or opposing sides of the same
battle or from same rank of different armies, navies, etc. OR two different ranks of the same
army, navy or cavalry.

1. Uniforms from the Napoleonic Era: 1780- - 1815

2. Include a brief description of the battle or military encounter. (short paragraph)

3. Identify the Country, Service, Rank on each illustration

-each illustration must be on at least 8 ½ x 11” paper utilizing the entire page

4. Side notations on specific costume details to describe the uniforms and the various
pieces

5. Utilize small sketches or research images to give details of insignia, or emblems

6. Identify materials used on each piece of the uniform: wool, leather, cotton etc.

7. Provide research in a separate folder

8. Thoroughness of research, neatness of presentation all count in the overall mark.

9. Be prepared to present your sketches – max. 10 min.
