Command Prompt with admin rights. Alternatively, go to Start > All programs >
Accessories. Right-click on Command Prompt entry, and select Run as

to finish the process. Now, close the Command Prompt window and reboot Windows 7.

I used this and it made my copy of windows 7 not genuine, Im using build 7600
Hi,
It did NOT work for me. All it did (if at all) is remove the words “Windows 7 build 7600″ while
keeping the rest of the watermark: “This copy of Windows is not genuine”. Every time I light
up my PC I get the 2 intimidating windows asking me to go genuine and my desktop
background is set to pitch black.
Do you have any other remedies against the annoying start up windows and the black
desktop background?

Just installed the lastest windows 7 official RTM build I ran windows update and
a watermark appeared on the bottom right of the screen saying this copy of windows
is not genuine. After rebooting I have a black screen and a prompt telling me I
must activate windows today! What happened to the 30 day grace period?
A = You have to open an elevated command prompt. That is, click Start and in the Start
Search box, type cmd and press Ctrl+Shift+Enter. Click Continue on the User Account
Control box.
Now in the command prompt window, type slmgr -rearm and press Enter.
(There is a space between slmgr and -).

What is is with people today? It seriously can’t ALL be the fault of the U.S. Education System.
By like post 50, at the most, this solution had been solved, yet, over and over the same
posts “How can I….” or even better the screaming “HELP!!!!!!!!!” people.
The simple answer is that those of you who obviously (a) didn’t take the time to READ from
post 1 on down before repeating what the first of those with the problem said and (b)
downloaded your copy from a torrent site rather than, oh pay for it (more on this below,
deserve only this:
2. Type cd\windows
4. Disregard warning about losing data, it’s a MS trick, and confirm the format.
5. Sit back and watch the lovely program work it’s magic.
6. When the screen goes black, get up, tell your parents/loved ones that you’re going out.
Head to your local library (gasp you mean like, books? yeah, I mean books) and before you
attempt to run (edit/hack/perform advanced programing), learn how to crawl (ask for help)
and walk (when and how you go about asking for that help).
7. Go to the reference librarian (yes, she’s the older lady in the funny sweater/jacket thing
over there, be nice, you’re learning something valuable and doing a good deed to boot by
letting the older generation continue to feel like their not the older generation, you’ll be
there, soon enough) and ask her if she has the time (don’t freaking assume it, that’s
insulting) to teach you how to, big concept here, CROSS-REFERENCE source materials. Pick a

topic, I’ll recommend anything by or about Thomas Edison, and just sit and read a section,
then go find the sources and cross references the section relies on for its statements of facts.
Hopefully you’ll soon see why (a) I chose Thomas Edison and (b) that you learn to walk quite
faster when you have to actually take the baby steps yourself. If your conclusion is that I
recommended Thomas Edison for any of the individual myriad of his inventions, you’re not
ready to walk yet… crawl back and read some more and this time, instead of concentrating
on the specifics of WHAT you’re reading about, focus on the HOW’S that took place to get the
WHAT done.
Regarding piracy, etc. I’m all for try-it-before-you-buy-it. Anyone with an iPhone, or knows
someone that has one, is a liar if they don’t become a convert to this concept. But, seriously?
Unless you really only downloaded your eval copy within the past 90 days, you know, and we
all know, you are long past the try it stage. Microsoft finally caved a (relatively) short time
ago and just let anyone in the world with a net connection start “trying it first”. No special
groups only, or PR selected economically “depressed” inner-city types… ANYONE without
regard to well, anything excpet signing up and registering. Ultimately, and it will never get
reported on like this but there really is no other logival reason, that was respect to the OG
crackers and hackers (of which Gates, and Jobs, and just about every other big time upper
management weenie at the biggies (MSFT, Oracle, Cisco, Apple, etc.) was back in the day)
because they reminded those now-big-time weenies where they came from, what their roots
were. You think Apple and MSFT waere giving away eval copies to just anyone even 10 years
ago? NOT. Think about it, 10 years ago. The world was worrying about Y2K issues and why
the NSA couldn’t crack a fax line over 57k baud (hence no speeds allowed over 52k for the
LONGEST time, even though the technology was there). We were LIGHT YEARS ahead of the
5.25 in. floppies that first booted up the computer (hard drive? is that some sexual joke or
something?) and then stored our data. 10 years, really not that long, and do any of you
possibly remember having to BUY a trial version. Yeah, cheap, but not fully functional, so
what was the point anyway? Better to get a copy of the full, crack it, then see if you wanted
to buy it.
So please, have some respect for yourself and if you’re thinking of typing “how do I get This
Version of Windows is Not Genuine off my screen”, think about what you’re saying about
yourself…..and portraying about the kind of person you really are. Yeah, none of us know
who you are, but……. you do.
If you take the time and ask nicely and for the honest reason (whatever that might be, from
no money to 90 days just wasn’t enough time to evaluate for you, with legitimate no BS
excuses) to the right department, hell, MS will GIVE you a free copy. Yeah, not Ultimate,
but, you don’t really need that anyway, and you know it.

Post number 59 by B Sage worked perfectly for me so far. The water mark, black desktop
background and pop ups are all gone now! Cheers B Sage!
I’m not sure if it helps, but also uninstall the windows update KB971033(details below) and
hide it from updates so that you do not install it again.
This update to Windows Activation Technologies detects activation exploits and tampering to
key Windows system files. These exploits try to bypass regular Windows activation and are
sometimes included within counterfeit copies of Windows.

For people with Windows 7 x64 build 7600 like me, where the patch cited in the original
article didn’t work (version 0.5), I found an updated version of the patch (version 0.8) here:
http://www.general-search.com/fileinfo/9927866
You will likely find this patch works better for you.
And for others who say that have a black screen on startup. Don’t forget that you need to
reset the black screen back to a theme after you’ve reactivated windows (or removed the
WAT). Windows doesn’t do it for you automatically. (Right-click on your desktop and select
‘personalize’)

I believe this made my computers internet connection go really slowly. Each time i open up

Dear B Sage,
Your method workes like magic. After the first reboot there was still a popup about going
genuine, but after rebooting again, there is nothing bothering me about that anymore. My
Windows is “activated” and life is peaceful again.

How to remove the watermark? Very simple: Change the desktop color to almost white. Or
set a desktop image that is white there.

Didn’t work for the new SP1 update, causes no problems either. It did however push the
message a little further down so you see only one line of the message.

I tried it again following everything step by step and it worked. The program removes the
whole ‘This copy of windows is not genuine’ section from your desktop. The desktop remains
black though, even if you change the background and restart your computer, it will reset to
black.

With Windows 7 x64 SP1 7601 this does not work as it only pushes the message further
down. I know that these kinds of things do work for lower versions, but just not the most
recent.
