The Wingfoot symbol is Goodyear's
trademark symbol that is known in every
country around the world. The symbol was
based off the Greek God Mercury,
because Seiberling felt that Mercury
embodied many characteristics that
Goodyear products were know for. since
1900, when it was proposed by company
Founder Frank Seiberling, who had a
statue of Mercury in his home. In ancient
times, Mercury was known as a swift
messenger for all the gods of mythology.

He ordered Hephaestus, the god of

the forge, to create Pandora, the first
woman. The gods gave her many
traits including beauty, curiosity,
charm, and cleverness. Hence her
name “Pandora,” meaning “all gifted”
or, alternately, “a gift to all.” thus, the
Pandora box is called after the
woman. It is widely known that when
the girl unbolted the box, all the
world's evils flew away and released
into the world.

The Greeks, under the guidance of
Odysseus, built a huge wooden
horse — the horse was the symbol
of the city of Troy — and left it at
the gates of Troy. They then
pretended to sail away. The
Trojans believed the huge wooden
horse was a peace offering to
their gods and thus a symbol of
their victory after a long siege.

Legend has it that Mario went

walking around Bologna, and at the
very end of Piazza Maggiore came
across the statue of Neptune. The
god of the sea was holding his
three-pronged spear in his hand: the
trident. Mario's idea to use it for the
Maserati symbol was very well
received. One of Bologna's most
famous symbols is the fountain that
depicts Neptune, a god of the seas,
complete with his signature trident.
The Maserati logo is inspired by this
powerful icon, which symbolizes
mastery over the water's raw power.
