Chapter -5 LIGHT Notes

1.How can the person see an object?


Light travels from the light source to the object. The Light bounces or reflects off the
object into our eyes. This is how we see an object.
2. Light travels in a straight line.
3. Light travels from the source of light in all directions until they hit something.
4. Draw a ray diagram of the sun’s rays travelling to Earth.

5. A smooth, shiny surface is very good at reflecting light.


6. We call he reflection of your face in the mirror as your image.
7. The wooden surface absorbs light. Its takes light in and does not reflect it.
8. What makes the solar system?
The sun and the planets, moons, comets asteroids which moves around it makes
solar system.
9. Draw the solar system.

10. What is an asteroid?


An asteroid is a rocky mass that orbits the Sun.
11. What is a moon?
A moon is a body in space that orbits a planet or an asteroid.

12. Draw a diagram to show the orbit Titania makes around the planet Uranus.

13. The planet Jupiter has 79 moons.

14. The planet Saturn has 62 moons.


15. The biggest asteroid in the solar system is Ceres.
16. A lump of ice and dirt that travels in a large orbit around the sun is called comet.
17. The globe is a model of the earth.
18. The stick passing through the earth from north pole to south pole is called earth
axis.
19. The earth spins in an anticlockwise direction.
20. The earth spins on its axis once every 24 hours.
21. The earth’s movement causes day and night.
22. Draw the diagram that shows day and night. Colour the day with yellow and night
with black.
23. What causes shadows?
When an objects blocks the light from the sun it causes shadows. An object that
blocks the light is called opaque.

24. During midday the shadows are very short.


25. In the late afternoon the shadows are longer.
26. The Shadow is longest at sunrise and sunset.
