Amaris Ricci – ILLICIT

Chapter ONE

"Three more years and you are mine."

"I was always yours."

No one knew about their relationship, they passed each other on the street with
a hi and hello. Her parents owned 8 acres of land which they ran as a vegetable farm
and when they wanted to see each other, they would leave a note in a scarecrow's
pocket.

“Morning Doctor Williams, I hope you don’t scare any patients today!”
“I hope not, you have a great day!”

This was their sign and they never made a spectacle of it, just two people passing
on the street greeting each other.

One day her father decided to strip the scarecrows and re-stuff them. When he
found the note, he took his gun, gathered his brothers, and went to Cameron's house
to confront him.
When Layna got to their spot, she waited and waited. The rain began to fall, and
the tool shed was close by, so she made a run for it. The rain poured for half an hour
and when she got back home, it was already dark, and the police were there. Before
she could ask what was going on her father dragged her inside the questions began.
"Did Cameron Williams touch you? Have you ever been alone with him before?
How long were you meeting him secretly? Answer me girl or I will beat it out of
you!"
Layna never answered, she just stared her father in the face. He got so mad at
her refusal to answer that he slapped her, her mother screamed and when he grabbed
her by the neck and started to choke her, the police had to drag him off her and
caution him about his actions. Layna never cried, she kept her head up and went to
her room. Her parents argued through the night until morning. She woke up with
a nasty headache and all she could think about was Cameron. She got dressed and
got ready for school. She looked in the mirror and her father’s hand print was
evident. On the bus she realised people weren't speaking to her, the driver looked at
her like he saw road kill and the one person she thought she could trust, turned on
her.
"So, Miss Perfect, are you going to tell us how long you ‘bin sleeping with the
good doctor?”
"That Jillian is none of your business, I thought you were my friend, but I guess
everyone else was right about you." Layna pressed the bell and got off at the next

stop. School was another fifteen minutes’ walk, but she would rather that than be
on a bus with hypocrites.
On her way she saw Cameron's car parked outside his office. She took a deep
breath and crossed the street. She pushed the door to the building and made her way
to his reception area.
When she got to the woman she knew as Marlene, she knew she made a mistake
in going there.
"Good morning is Dr. Williams in?"
"He doesn't want to see you, go away."
"He is old enough to make that decision for himself, now either you let me see
him or I will tell everyone that you sleep with my uncle whenever his wife goes
away on business."
Marlene opened her eyes wide and with a nasty look, she pointed to Cameron's
door. Layna pushed the door and when she saw Cameron her heart broke in a million
pieces.
"What did they do to you?"
"Laynie you shouldn't be here, if they find you here, they will kill me next time.
Your father and his brothers, they said I raped you. Without even trying to find out
the truth. I can't see you anymore, your father threatened to beat you. I'm sorry things
turned out this way, but you have to go."
"I love you Cameron what am I supposed to do now, how can I convince them
that I love you and you love me? Why does age have to be a factor in how we feel?"
"I'm leaving Layna."
"What?" She whispered as the tears began.
"All my patients canceled their appointments. I've given Marlene her severance
and I will be gone by tomorrow."
"Tell me where you are going so when I turn 18 I can come find you."
"You will find someone your age and forget about me Layna."
"I won't, I don't want anyone else, take me with you Cameron, please."
"I can't, now you have to go before anyone sees you here."
Layna ran over to Cameron, hugged him and held on for dear life.
"I promise if you wait for me I will come when I turn 18."
Cameron shrugged. He took a piece of paper and wrote his new address on it.
He took out an envelope from his desk, put the paper in it and handed it to her.
"When you turn 18, if I have to leave there, I will leave a forwarding address.
Go now Laynie please!" He pushed her away.
"Bye Cameron, I love you." She whispered loud enough for his ears. Then she
ran to the door, opened it, ignored Marlene and ran outside. She ran all the way to
the school.

Amaris Ricci – ILLICIT

The children at the school were mean. They snickered behind her back, threw
things at her, put garbage in her locker, spray painted her bag and books. They wrote
nasty things in the bathrooms, including her cell phone number stating she was
available for free sex if you were older. Even the teachers refused to acknowledge
her in class, they found any excuse to give her low grades. Layna took it in stride.
She never defended herself until one day she couldn't take it anymore. She was
eating breakfast in the cafeteria and some girls came up behind her and poured sour
milk over her sandwich. Then when she said nothing or retaliated, another girl
started calling her mother names.

“Your mother must have been a slut to produce a slut.”

She had enough, she would have brushed off everything people were saying not
only because she knew it wasn’t true. Layna pushed away from the table and got up,
taking her bag.

It was full assembly that morning and she knew this would be her last day there.
She worked weekends and she made enough money to take the trip to go to Cameron.
She already checked out the cost of the flight, taxi fare when she got there. She
waited until the right moment and made her way onto the stage.

"I won't bother with pleasantries, so let me get right to it. I am in love with Dr.
Cameron Williams, I have been since I was 12. There is no one on this earth that
can tell me what I feel is wrong. What all of you don't get is that he never touched
me. I Layna Amanda Graeme am still a virgin. Now for all you who have decided
that I am not worth being alive let me inform you of some things - half of your
teachers are sleeping with one another all of whom are married. Some of them are
sleeping with your parents. There are 30 girls in my class and I am the ONLY one
who hasn’t been sleeping with the cricket team. Some of you need to get DNA tests
done because the men you call Daddy – ain’t your daddy. The principal is sleeping
with both his Secretary and Treasurer and the P.E teacher is sleeping with the entire
Lab staff, males and females. Have a nice life."
Layna ran off the stage and kept running, she had already packed her bag and
she grabbed it off the steps and kept running. The school was in an uproar. She
didn't care.
She took the express bus went home and went to her room. Little by little she
had been selling off her stuff and the room was almost empty, her parents never
bothered to go in there, so they never knew. All that was left was her bed, Chest of
drawers and a book shelf, the last of her stuff was in her bag. She lifted her mattress
and took out the money she made. When she opened the envelope to put the money
5
Amaris Ricci – ILLICIT

in there, she quickly counted it and the tears began again. Cameron had given her
US $1000. She added her savings and stuffed the envelope into her bag, locked the
door on the inside and left. She knew her parents wouldn't be home until around
9pm, that gave her quite a head start. She took the bus to the airport and when she
got there she handed the clerk, her passport and told her she wanted to buy a ticket
to England.
"Are you travelling alone sweetie?"
"Yes ma’am."
"You are only 15 love I can't sell you a ticket."
“I'm going to my grandmother for a few weeks, she will take care of me."
“Give me your grandmother's number I will call her from my cell and let her
know you are coming."
"She will be at work; my uncle may answer the phone though." Layna handed
her Cameron's number and prayed he would back her up.
"Good day I'm calling on behalf of Layna Graeme...."
"Oh, sorry sir she is fine, I'm an airline clerk and she is trying to purchase a ticket
to see her grandmother, what relation are you to her?"
"Uncle, my mother isn't at home right now, Layna is welcome always, I will get
her from the airport, I can call you back and let you know she is safe."
"Oh, thank you sir, her flight should arrive around 5:30, I will help her fill out
the forms and let the airline know she is travelling alone." She gave Cameron her
name and number and hung up.
"Well you my dear are in luck, I hope your parents don't miss you too much,
here's your ticket and I put you by a window seat, is this all the luggage you have?"
"Yep, gran usually buys clothes for when I visit. I will be back, I just need to get
away for now.”
“Okay, go to that door with the blue sign above it and that will take you to the
Customs and Immigration, and the officer will show you to the departure lounge.
Have a safe flight and tell your uncle to call me or text me just to let me know you
are safe okay?”
“Okay thank you Sarah.”
Layna did as she was told and when she was in the Lounge sitting down she
shook with anticipation. She was hoping by the time her parents realised she was
missing she’d be long gone.
Her flight was called, and she boarded the plane. As she sat in her seat, she felt
a rush of emotions and began crying. A lady in the middle aisle heard and got up and
sat next to her.
“Afraid of flying little one?”
“No, I just………. why does life have to be so hard?” Layna lunged at the lady
and hugged her tightly.
6
Amaris Ricci – ILLICIT

“Awww come on, it doesn’t, we just have to roll with the punches and make the
best of every situation.” The lady hugged her as if she knew her and just let her cry.
When she let go, she handed her a tissue. Layna wiped her face and managed a
smile.
“I’m sorry, but everything is so depressing.”
“It’s okay honey. Now, if you need to talk after we lift off, I am right over there.”
The lady touched Layna on her arm and went back to her seat.

Eight hours later.

“It was nice meeting you Layna and thank you for sharing your story with me,
this is my number, I don’t agree with your decision to run away and I can understand
why but you have to realise that you can’t take back something after you have said
or done it. I am not judging you but just be careful.”
The lady who Layna came to know as Sharolyn, hugged her tightly.
“Wait, is Cameron coming to pick you up?”
“He told the Clerk that, I guess I will have to go outside to find out.”
“I will go with you just in case you need a ride, my son is picking me up. Let’s
go.”
Layna and Sharolyn made their way out to the exit doors and much to the delight
of Layna, Cameron was waiting for her. She couldn’t hold back the tears. She
dropped her bag and ran over to him, he picked her up and spun her.
Just as he let her go, he saw Sharolyn with Layna’s bag.
“Hello, you must be Cameron, I can see why Layna is so taken with you.
Anyway, I gave her my numbers in case anything happens. Take care of her she is
a good girl.”
“She told you?”
“Yes, she was crying on the plane, I guess running away from home is a lot to
take on.”
Cameron looked at Layna whose head was now lowered to her chin.
“It’s okay, we will be fine, I will take good care of her, I promise.”
“Cameron don’t forget to call the airline and let the lady know I got here safely.”
“As soon as we get home.”
“Ah, my son is here, do you need a ride?”
“I drove here, I’m not parked far. Come Layna. Let’s get you home.”
Layna took Cameron’s hand, and waved goodbye to Sharolyn. The ride to
Cameron’s house took all of fifteen minutes, neither of them said a word. It was as
if they spoke something bad would happen.
Cameron pulled up to a lovely two-story home, it had a nice lawn, a few fruit
trees and lots of flowers. Cameron opened the door and let Layna pass. The house
7

felt warm and cozy. She stood in the middle of the living room and waited. Cameron
put her bag down and walked up behind her. He put his arms around her and she
fell to pieces.
“I’m sorry but I couldn’t take it anymore, my father, the teachers, the children,
my neighbours, they all think I am the worst person on the earth, but I know in my
heart that we love each other. So, I just left. Please don’t send me back.”
“I won’t but we will have to leave here, in a week or so, good thing I only rent
this place. Come, are you hungry?”
“Only for you Cameron.”
“Not yet Layna, when you turn 18, we promised each other.”
“I want you now Cameron, I want to get married and have your babies.”
Cameron turned Layna to face him, his feelings mirrored hers exactly, but he
knew they had to do this right and wait.
“How is it possible that I love you so much, I’m 34 Layna, I can’t take your
youth away from you. I need you to go back to school and get that degree you are
always talking about, if anything happens to me you can handle yourself and not
depend on any man for support and you can’t stay here, I will speak to Sharolyn and
make arrangements for you to stay with her if it’s okay. She doesn’t live far from
here and we can see each other as often as we like.”
“You don’t want me here?” Layna looked up sadly.
“It doesn’t matter what I want, you are only 15 and I won’t risk losing you again,
it was so hard for me to leave you back in Barbados and now that you are here, I
have to do this right, I just need you to trust me sweetie, please.”
Layna nodded.
“Come on you can sleep here tonight, and I will talk to Sharolyn in the morning.
I will pay her for your stay and we will look into the best college for you.”
Cameron stepped back and took her hand and led her to the bedroom.
Layna opened her case and took out a dress, she wanted to take a shower and get
something to eat.
“Your bathroom is here and when you’re finished meet me downstairs, I will
have dinner ready for you.” He kissed her on her head and when she looked up, the
love in his eyes was evident.
“Kiss me Cameron.”
“No Layna don’t tempt me, I won’t be able to stop.” He pulled away and closed
the door.
Layna took her shower and cried all the while.
She dressed and went down to dinner. Cameron was just turning off the stove.
“Feeling all better honey?” He said without turning around.
“No.”
Cameron turned to face a teary-eyed Layna.
8
Amaris Ricci – ILLICIT

“Sit, let me feed you.”

Layna sat at the table and waited. Cameron filled a plate with herbed potatoes,
fried fish and steamed vegetables with cheese sauce. He sat next to her and began
to feed her slowly.
“Tell me why you are crying honey.”
“I thought this would be different, I thought, you would want me here with you
no matter what happened to us. When I was talking to Sharolyn, she fully understood
how I felt, she didn’t make me think I was stupid or dirty, she said she didn’t agree
with how I handled things, but she seemed to know what I was going through.”
“The only reason I’m sending you to her is because if the authorities come to
my house you won’t be here. I need you in my life Layna, I made a few calls and I
found another house, I will be moving after you leave tomorrow. I want to make
love to you so badly, I don’t even know how I’ve managed to stay away for so long,
but I won’t ruin it now, you are worth the wait.”
“Is that why you never even hugged or touched me?”
“Yes, and I won’t until we are married either. I have to believe you were created
just for me.”
Layna nodded and continued letting Cameron feed her. She drank a bit of wine
and while he was doing the dishes she watched him lovingly.
When he was finished he took her hand once again and they went to the living
room. Cameron was fighting the strong urge to make love to her before she left. He
sat down and pulled her onto his lap, she curled up in a ball. He caressed her back
and ran his hand down her arm. Layna was loving the attention since he’d never
done this before, they would spend hours just talking and talking but never risking
igniting the fire waiting to consume them.
Layna pulled away and looked at him, she couldn’t take it anymore. She cupped
his face in her hands and kissed him before he could protest. That was mistake
number one. Mistake number two was getting up and straddling Cameron’s lap
while wearing a dress. Mistake number three Layna made was wearing lacy panties
under that dress. Cameron’s hands were all over her and when he pushed her dress
up to her waist and felt the sexy fabric, he stood up with her in his arms and literally
ran to his bedroom. His heart was pounding as he lay her on the bed.
‘Think straight Cam, you shouldn’t be doing this’
Shaking his head as he stared down at her. Layna was breathing hard.
Cameron crawled into the bed and lay down on his back next to her.
“Cam?”
“Shhh honey, gimme’ a minute.”
But Layna didn’t want to wait, so once again she straddles his lap. Cameron
groaned.
“Layna, we need to stop.”
9
Amaris Ricci – ILLICIT

Layna’s instinct told her to move back and forth across his lap and the feel of
him under her was turning her insides to mush. Cameron was hard, extremely hard
and she could feel him pressing against her.
Cameron grabbed her hips and ground himself into her. It was just a matter of
time.
“Layna……………. Uh.”
Layna was confused when she saw the look on Cameron’s face. She felt wetness
between her legs and when she got up, the entire front of his shorts was soaked.
“What did I do wrong?”
“Nothing honey, this is not good, not good, get up let me go clean up.”
Layna got off Cameron and sat on the bed.
Cameron shook his head as he looked at his pants. Unbelievable, Cameron
didn’t realise he was so aroused and just the feel of her sitting on him was enough.
Normally he would have felt embarrassed but no, he was even more excited at the
thought of what was to come when she turned 18, she would be a woman legally and
they would be free to explore each other.
Layna was confused, she didn’t understand the effect she had on Cameron. She
was worried that she wasn’t pleasing to him.
Cameron took a quick shower and threw his clothes in the washer and got a fresh
pants and shirt from the closet. When he got back to the bedroom Layna was still in
the same spot. He sat down next to her and put his arm around her.
“Do you have any idea of what just happened?”
“No, did I disappoint you?”
Cameron laughed.
“Not a chance of that honey, you got me so excited, I couldn’t hold back my
orgasm. You have so much passion that comes naturally and right now, I think I
need to put you in your room and lock the door.”
“I have this feeling low in my stomach, it feels like a burning, but it doesn’t hurt,
it’s just there, is that how you felt before……. ya’ know.”
“Yes, that is exactly how I felt.”
“Touch me Cameron, please, don’t let me leave here without knowing how you
feel against me.”
“You don’t know what you’re asking honey.”
“Yes, I do, when I leave here anything can happen, we don’t have to go all the
way just touch me.”
Layna reached out her hand and Cameron took it and joined her on the bed.
Arms, legs, hands, mouths, passion, emotion and sheer need took over.
Cameron stripped Layna quickly, but he kept his clothes on, he pressed himself
into her and she just melted.

10
Amaris Ricci – ILLICIT

The next morning, Layna woke up alone, her entire body felt touched, she never
thought she would experience what she did with Cameron and she loved every
minute of it. There was no feeling of shame or that she did anything wrong. She
took a shower and made her way down to get breakfast.
Cameron was on the phone, and she stood watching him.

Chapter TWO

Cameron was 6 feet tall, 225lbs and all muscle. He had been orphaned when he
was 15 but his parents were both wealthy and they left everything to him. He was
sexy as hell but humble in everything he did. He spent his inheritance on improving
himself and the lives of those around him and funny enough he didn’t have many
friends, but he was happy, nonetheless. He got married when he was 25 to a brilliant
scientist. He met her at a medical summit in Gros Islet, St. Lucia. The first time he
saw her she looked like an ice queen but for some reason he felt he could break
through that. He figured in a world of men she felt the need to be that way. When
he asked her to dinner she refused. He asked her again while he was on his way to
the airport heading back to Barbados, she was leaving for Australia.
“Tell you what Cameron, I will go out with you if you have sex with me in the
bathroom at the airport.”
“That is never going to happen. I love women, I love sex, but I am not that type
and if you are, then there will be no date either.”
“I see. Well good-bye Cameron.”
Cameron felt a mix of emotions. What in the hell was she thinking? Sex in a
public bathroom with a stranger? He shrugged it off and made his way through check
in. While he was drinking a bottle of water, he got a message on his cell phone.
“I think you are a wonderful man, I love that you stood up for what you believe
in and did not trade your self-respect for a few minutes of pleasure. I will be in
Australia for 2 weeks. If you still want to go on a date, I have to be in Barbados for
a month – Auri.”
Cameron laughed so loudly, the passengers sitting near him looked at him as if
he had gone mad. True to her word, Auri arrived in Barbados 2 weeks later and she
was eager to see Cameron. Out of all the doctors at the summit, he stood out. He
was not arrogant, self-centered or pompous. He was confident in his skills, he
walked with pride and his smile was so unique it made her stomach do flip flops.
She was glad he turned her down, every day for a week she saw how he was with
people, and she hated to think that he was a dog underneath all that goodness and
she was right.
“Hello Dr. Williams.”
11
Amaris Ricci – ILLICIT

“Hello Dr. Finley.”

“Dinner tonight at 6:30, meet me at Castaways.”
“Sounds good, see you there.”
Cameron arrived at the restaurant at 6:15, he sat at the bar and ordered a
Natalya’s Envy. Before it arrived a soft voice next to him said “I’ll have a Southern
Isle, send both to our table please.”
Cameron laughed softly and followed Auri to a table in a cosy looking corner.
As they sat Auri chuckled.
“You look sexy compared to the white coat and gloves.”
“I can never look as sexy as you. The colour suits you, I like green.”
“Thank you.”
Auri knew she wanted him, there was no doubt in her mind, but she saw
something in him that gave her pause. Cameron came across as a man who was sure
of himself, he would love his partner with a possession and fierceness she had never
experienced before. He would go all out to please her, and he would demand the
same in return and he would not settle for less. She wasn’t sure she wanted to be that
person. She knew she could love him with all her heart though.
Cameron knew he had found the woman of his dreams, her intellect was on par
with his, she knew how to disagree without being disrespectful. If she didn’t know
something or was unclear, she would ask. She was a quick learner, and she was not
afraid of people stealing her ideas because she had so many.
They talked and ate until 9:30 and then Auri said she had to leave.
“Come on I will take you home.”
“If it’s not out of your way.”
“It is but I could never let you take a taxi.” He motioned for the bill, and they
kept talking ‘til the waitress came.
On the drive to her apartment, they talked, sang and laughed at everything. They
felt so comfortable with each other. When Cameron pulled up to Auri’s apartment,
she realized she had not given him directions.
“Okay, spit it out.”
Cameron laughed out loud.
“These apartments belonged to my parents before they died, I took over the
responsibility of them when I turned 21. When you told me where you were staying,
I just didn’t say anything.”
“Sneaky devil. Would you like to come in for a drink?”
“I would but we both have early meetings in the morning and I promised I would
behave. So, Mi Lady, I bid you adieu and we can hang out when neither of us are
busy.”

12
Amaris Ricci – ILLICIT

Cameron took Auri’s hand, bent and kissed the back of it while clicking his
heels. Auri nearly died laughing. Over the next few years they got to know each
other better and the day Cameron decided he wanted to marry her… his heart burst.
He knew she didn’t want a big wedding, so he planned everything down to the last
detail. Auri was in love… there was no other explanation than that. Everything in
her life felt right, her work, her relationship and her charity work.
She was sitting in her office one day and her phone rang.
“Hi Cam!”
“Hello Mrs. Williams.”
“Not yet…”
“If you meet me outside in a few minutes we can change that.”
Before Cameron finished his sentence Auri was scampering through her office.
When she got in to the foyer which was the main reception for all the offices, she
could not believe her eyes. The area was decorated in green and cream. Flowers,
balloons and petals were all over the floor.
“Marry me Auri.” A deep voice from behind her said.
She turned so quickly she almost fell. Giggling she squealed “YES”.
There were close friends and a few family members. Within an hour they were
on their way to Cameron’s bay house in St. Andrew. Cam was not the romantic
type, but he would do anything to make Auri happy. He blindfolded her in the car
and she trusted him so much she didn’t ask anything.
He leads her up the steps and when they got to the door he lifted her into his
arms and carried her inside. When he put her down she giggled again.
“You are such a girlie girl.”
“Only with you Cam.”
Cam had bought the bay house just before he met Auri and he always said when
it was fixed the way he wanted it, he would spend his honey moon there.
“Open your eyes hon.”
“OH gosh Cam, this is …. how did you know?”
“I saw your online blog, I figured hey, if I can do this for her, she will love me
forever.”
“I would love your forever without you asking me. Thank you, Cam.”
Cameron had the living room floor redone with a 3d ocean theme and not only
that but at the press of a button, it opened, and you had access to an indoor pool.
Yep, she would love him forever.

Cameron and Auri were happily married for 4 years and in that time, they tried
to get pregnant. Auri was frustrated not with trying because she loved being with
Cameron, but she felt like a failure and her self-esteem was slowly declining. She

13

began to gain weight and she resorted to eating loads of junk food and drinking
alcohol every day. Nothing Cameron said was making a difference.
One day they got into a very stupid argument, it escalated into name calling,
insults and Cameron getting angry and slamming the door on his way out.
“Auri honey you can’t keep this up.” It was 8 in the morning and she was blind
drunk. She had gone out with her girlfriends partying and came home drunk. Instead
of sobering up, she drank some more.
“Keep what up? You mean pretending that I will be able to keep my wonderful
husband forever knowing that he wants a child so badly?”
“No, I mean you are eating and drinking yourself to death and you won’t let me
help you. For better for worse remember?”
“Well Doc-tor Williams, this is MY worst so deal with it!” Her breath smelt
horrible, and she spat while she spoke, unable to control her mouth.
“How can I deal with it when you won’t let me? We don’t even make love
anymore, you put on 40lbs and you are constantly drunk. What do you want me to
do Auri? Tell me and I will go to the end of the universe to make sure it’s done but
I cannot read your mind!”
“Go to hell Cameron, I see you looking at other women! All the small hot young
nurses are always trying to crawl into your pants. Well I DON’T CARE! They can
have you!” Auri picked up a half empty glass and threw it at Cameron. It hit him in
the chest, fell to the floor and shattered. He didn’t even budge.
“What have you done with the woman I met?”
“She died Cameron, along with all the love and hope I had for you.”
“Tell me you don’t love me anymore and I will leave.”
“I don’t love you anymore.”
“Just like that?”
“Just like that, now get out! Go to one of your secretaries and screw them on
the bed in the operating room!”
“WHAT?”
“I heard her talking!”
“Who?”
“Don’t play games with me! You had sex with Larissa in the OR on the top
floor last week Tuesday, she told everyone that you came to her because you couldn’t
love a fat woman.”
“And you believed her?”
“YES, DAMNIT! I believed her! Why would she lie?”
“Because that’s what she does! I am not the first person she told lies on and I
won’t be the last and I am disappointed that you would even think I would cheat on
you for someone who tries to sleep with everyone who has a higher pay grade than
she does.”
14
Amaris Ricci – ILLICIT

“I don’t care Cameron, you want someone else go right ahead, ‘cause I sure
don’t want you!”
“FINE!”
Cameron picked up his keys, slammed the door on his way out, got into his SUV
and left. He knew where he was going. The Hospital. He needed to clear his name
before he lost his wife foolishly. He knew she was hurting because of the baby issue
but he wanted to help her no matter what she said. He would go back on hands and
knees if he had to. That’s what partners do, fix things or give it a damned good try.
When Larissa saw him coming she knew what was coming next. She pretended
she didn’t see him but knowing Cameron he would make sure she saw him.
“My office, Larissa, now.”
For some reason Larissa was a bit scared, not only did Cameron look angry but
he ordered her into his office while the ER was packed with staff and patients. She
hesitated for a few seconds, looked around at some of the staff, then she moved. She
followed him from a distance not knowing what he would do. He went to his office
and stood at the door make sure she had to pass him to get in. Cameron shut the
door with force, so there was no question as to how angry he was.
“You have one minute before I snap your worthless neck and don’t give me any
crap about ethics, right now my wife is crying her eyes out because YOU started a
rumour that we had sex upstairs. WHY? I have never showed any interest in you
and even if I did, the mere fact that you work in the same building as my wife would
make you want to be discreet.”
“I overheard her telling Dr. Griffith that she was having trouble getting pregnant
and you haven’t had sex in months because she was fat and she felt insecure and
useless. I figured I would try my luck. She overheard me saying I wanted you in
the worst way and that you said you would meet me in the OR later that evening. I
didn’t realise that there was an Op scheduled for that time frame, so when you told
me to meet you in the OR for 6, she thought it was for sex.”

“You idiot! Didn’t you learn anything when you tried to have Tyne’s baby
taken? Dr. Weithers didn’t want you, the people in the town banned you from ever
going back there to live. Didn’t you learn ANYTHING? Pack your things and go.
By the time…”
Cameron’s cell phone rang. He motioned to Larissa to leave.
“What?” He whispered into the phone.
“Be right there.”
Cameron ran past Larissa on his way to the ER, he wasn’t prepared for what he
saw.
Auri was laying on a gurney and she was covered in blood; her clothes were
ripped to shreds and her body almost looked lifeless. He had two choices, stand there
15
Amaris Ricci – ILLICIT

in shock or help. He grabbed a handful of gloves and put them on quickly. One
nurse was doing compressions on her chest, another was trying to run an IV line,
and another was cutting her shredded clothes off. Cameron took her pulse and
started giving orders.

Two hours later, he called it. Time of death 8:25 pm. He pulled his gloves and
gown off, threw them in the bin and left. He went outside and sat in a chair and
when the tears came, he just let them. Stories started to circulate about how she died.
Cameron knew the police would want to talk to him. He was still sitting in the
waiting area when two officers walked up to him. He motioned for them to sit.
“Dr. Williams, I am Officer Shepard, and this is Officer Clarke. I know this will
be hard for you, but we need to do this.”
“I understand, what would you like to know?”
“Neighbour said you and your wife were arguing and they saw you leave and
get into your car. What were you arguing about?”
“We were trying to have a baby for four years, she was sinking into depression
and she wouldn’t let me help. One of the nurses at work started a rumour that she
and I were having an affair. My wife heard and made the accusation.”
“Has anyone told you how your wife got into the accident?”
“No.”
“I’m sorry Dr. Williams but she committed suicide. Eyewitnesses say she
walked out of the house and when she saw a truck coming, she stepped in front of
it.”
Cameron replayed his last moments with Auri over and over in his head. What
could he have done different, should he have left her alone? He felt like he was going
nuts. He didn’t want an autopsy, when her body was ready, he made the
arrangements and had her cremated. He invited a few of their close friends and her
family to a memorial at their bay house. He scattered the ashes on the beach at the
front of the property. He thanked everyone for coming and kindly asked that he be
left alone. When everyone was gone, he locked up and went for a drive and that is
when he met Layna.

Chapter THREE

He was sitting on the wall at Codrington College staring at the fish swimming
by. Layna realised he was crying, and she left her friends and took a bag of bread.
She sat next to him and handed him a piece. He never even looked up, but he took
it and they fed the fish together. A duck walked over to them, and Cameron fed him
while stroking his feathers. Layna fell in love with him that instant.
16
Amaris Ricci – ILLICIT

“I’m sorry for your pain and I hope you feel better soon.”
Layna got up and ran back to her friends.
Months passed, and she couldn’t stop thinking about him. She was on her way
to school and she thought she saw him getting out of a car. She stopped the bus, got
out and ran to the building she saw him go into. When she got to the reception area,
he was just standing there talking to a woman. The woman saw her first.
“Good morning can I help you?”
“I’m here to see him.” She nodded to Cameron.
“Do you have an appointment?”
“She doesn’t need one, come into my office please.”
Layna ignored the scowl on the woman’s face and quickly went through the door
Cameron pointed to.
She sat down and waited.
“Hello little one, what’s your name? Mine is Cameron Williams.” He stuck out
his hand.
“I’m Layna Graeme.” She shook his hand.
“Thank you for the other day, you have no idea how much it helped me.”
“You’re welcome. Can I tell you something?”
“Sure.”
“I fell in love with you that day. I don’t expect you to feel the same, but I would
rather tell you now than miss the opportunity. I saw you and came by to say hello.
I have to get to school now.” Layna got up and started to leave.
“Wait honey, how old are you?”
“12.”
“I am going to marry you when you turn 18, I have never met a 12-year-old who
thinks like you do. I lost my wife and that day you gave me hope. Now go we will
continue this later.”

Layna’s thoughts were interrupted when she heard Cameron ask if she was all
packed, Sharolyn would be there in an hour. She had two extra bedrooms now that
her son was going to college.
“Layna, can you hear me?”
“What? Yes, all packed.”
“I…….”
“I enjoyed it too Cameron.”
“I hope I didn’t hurt you.”
“No, I’m fine, thank you. Can we do that again soon?”
“No honey, if we keep doing that we might slip up one day.”

17
Amaris Ricci – ILLICIT

“I don’t mind getting pregnant with your baby Cameron, do I really have to go
back to school?”
“You flatter me Layna, but I need you to grow up, so that when we take that
step, we have anyone to answer to.”

Layna decided she wanted more of last night, she stood up and dropped her
dress.
“Please.”
“Sweet Jesus.” Cameron closed his eyes tight. When he opened them, Layna
was sitting on the kitchen table waiting. He gave in at that moment and ten minutes
later they were both panting.
“Layna, Layna you will be the death of me, go clean up quickly before Sharolyn
gets here.”

Cameron loved the taste of Layna, she was fresh, and she responded to him as
she was meant to. He didn’t tell her the house he bought was on the same street as
Sharolyn, he meant that he would stay close and if any man even looked at her, he
would pay dearly. She was his and in two years’ time, she would be his wife.

“Good morning sweetie, I’m so glad you are coming to stay with me.”
Sharolyn hugged Layna.
“I don’t want to put you out, but Cameron is trying to protect me, and I trust
him.”
“I agree with him, you living with me is a good thing, come, we have lots of
things to do and talk about. Cameron, I will take good care of her, and you are
welcome at my home anytime.”
Cameron hugged Layna and watched them leave. He quickly packed up his
things and put them in his SUV, he was a neat freak, so the house didn’t need
cleaning. He walked across the street, paid the landlady what he owed and handed
her the keys.
He got into his truck and pulled off.

Stepping into his new home, Cameron felt lonely. From the day Layna admitted
her feelings for him until now, he questioned everything in his life. He had a sound
education, being a Neurologist paid him handsomely and he was filthy rich. What
made him wait for Layna was that she didn’t know how rich he was and about a year
ago he changed his will and left everything to her. He and his wife didn’t have any
children and he hoped Layna would fill that role.
None of his friends knew about Layna before they arrested him for Statutory
Rape. Layna’s father decided to drop the charges when his lawyer asked him if he
18
Amaris Ricci – ILLICIT

and his brother beat up Cameron and that Cameron could counter sue. Cameron
agreed he would leave the country but when the Airline Clerk called him, he knew
he couldn’t deny her anymore.
He would let Layna decorate the house how she saw fit and when they got
married it’s where she would call home. He took his stuff from the truck and stored
them where they had to go. He looked across the street and saw Layna talking to
Sharolyn on the front porch. He would take her to lunch tomorrow and plan their
future.
Cameron decided not to set back up his practice but one day he was shopping
for groceries and a man was complaining of bad headaches. Cameron mentioned to
him he should see a doctor as it could be several things and he needed to rule them
out one by one.
“How would you know? Are you doctor?”
“A neurologist as a matter of fact.”
“Where’s your office?”
“I don’t practice anymore.”
“Why not?”
“I fell in love with a sixteen-year-old, I met her when she was 12, my wife had
just died and I went through depression, her innocence and genuine friendship got
me to where I am today. He father found out we were meeting each other secretly
and I got arrested for statutory rape, left the country for her safety and came here.
She followed me here and she is staying with my neighbour until she turns eighteen.
I don’t need the publicity, that’s my story.”
“Did you?”
“I couldn’t, she’s too young but that doesn’t stop how I feel about her, if you
met her you would understand.”
“Son, if there is one thing I know, is that love has no boundaries. When I met
my wife, she was 5, I was 19, she lived next door to me for thirteen years, never met
a spit fire like her and I waited. The problem was that I never told her how I felt,
and she married someone else when she turned eighteen. I moved away because I
couldn’t bear to see them together. My mom died, and I came back to bury her. I
saw her on the step and my heart broke all over again. She got her marriage annulled
after a week, her husband beat her up the night of their honey moon. I puffed up my
chest and spilled my guts, she laughed and said it was about time. We got married
a month later and we have been married for 20 years with five children. Go start
your practice son, I will be your first patient.”
Cameron told the old man where he lived, took his number and said he would
let him know when he was ready.
Sure enough, Cam turned one of the rooms downstairs into a fully equipped
office. He barred it off from the main house and installed an external door. He
19
Amaris Ricci – ILLICIT

called the old man and told him he was ready. He showed up a half hour later along
with ten others. Cam laughed. Then he realised he needed a receptionist. Sharolyn
was perfect for the job.

Chapter FOUR

Two years later.

“Happy Birthday honey. We will be married soon.”
“Thank you, Cam, I’m so happy, are you sure you still want me?”
“Was there ever a question?”
“Yes, I doubt myself every day, look at you, you are so handsome and talented,
brilliant and I’m as plain as day.”
“Layna, there is nothing plain about you and for someone who just passed all
her courses with a 99% average, you are one to talk. Now let me do this the right
way.”
Cameron got down on one knee and presented Layna with a ring.
“Will you marry me Layna?”
“Yes!”
“Now, before, I go any further I need to tell you something very important.”
“Is everything okay?”
“Everything is perfect, but I hope you won’t be angry with me.”
“I could never be angry with you Cameron. Tell me.”
“I’m a millionaire.” He whispered and closed his eyes.
“I know that.” She whispered back.
“You do?”
“I’ve always known, and I never cared about your money, if that’s what you are
worried about.”
“How did you know? And no, the thought never crossed my mind.”
“After you paid my fees for college, I over-heard a few professors talking about
your parents. I should have said something, but I needed you to trust me and not
think that I wanted your money.”
“You always manage to make me so happy Layna, I promise I will do the same
for you.”
“You already have by waiting so long. Sharolyn was telling me that only a good
man would wait, most men would have taken my virginity without a ring and then
discarded me when they grew tired.”
“I could never tire of you honey. Now, we have a wedding to plan, and I need
to make a request and I need you to think about it before you say no.”
“You want me to invite my parents.” Layna stepped back.
20
Amaris Ricci – ILLICIT

“Now you see why I love you so much, you know what I am thinking most of
the time.”
“My family hurt you Cam, how can I ask them to be witness to something they
opposed to from the start? I can ask my mother but not my father or anyone else in
that family. Please don’t make me.”
“Okay, okay, no tears now. I know you value Sharolyn’s opinion so talk to her
and see what she says but the final decision is still yours.”

After her conversation with the woman who came into her life without a fuss
and created a safe home for her, she called her parents’ house.
“Hello.” It was her father.
“Daddy.” She felt like 15 all over again.
“Laynie? I’m sorry Laynie can you come home; we miss you so much.”
“What?”
“I’m sorry about hitting you and what we did to Dr. Williams. You mother has
given me hell for you running away. Please come home Laynie.”
“Okay Daddy is mom there?”
“Hold on.”
“Laynie? Oh God Laynie!”
“Yes momma, it’s me. I missed you so much, how are you?”
“I feel blessed now that I know you are alive, you could have talked to me ya
know. I know your father acted badly but when you think of the circumstances, you
were as much to blame as he was.”
“I understand that mama, but Dad hit me and then he got my uncles to beat up
Cam, school was torture and people were calling me all sorts of nasty things without
even knowing the truth. They said horrible things about you and I just couldn’t take
it anymore. I came here to live with Cameron and I met a nice lady and I am staying
with her, he paid for college and we are getting married in a few months, I would
love to come home and get married there but if you intend to treat him like a rapist
you will never see me again.”
“My baby’s getting married.” That’s all her mother heard.
“Yes mama, Cameron waited until I was old enough, but no one ever cared about
that, they assumed that he was some pervert, and I didn’t know how I felt. Anyway,
I’m coming home in a month, and I would love for you to help me plan my wedding.”
“Yes, my love, come home, I am so happy for you, and it will give us the chance
to apologise to Cameron for everything.”

“I’m going to miss that lovely smile of yours.”

“You’re still coming, aren’t you?”

21
Amaris Ricci – ILLICIT

“I will be there two weeks before the wedding, no worries, Cameron will bring
the car around to take us to the airport in a few, are you all packed?”
“Yes, I crossed the list you gave me, and I have everything from here, when I
get there is another story. Cam told me to open a bank account when I got there, and
he will transfer whatever I need.”
“Honestly, I didn’t think you would both be able to wait this long, I can see how
much you love each other.”
“Truth, it was Cam, he made me wait, he wanted to make sure no one could tell
us anything. Thank you so much for being our friend, I love you.”
“Oh, pish posh now, don’t get me all weepy. That’s Cam let’s go.”

Layna goes down and she and her family plan the wedding but when Cameron
arrives at the house to meet her family, the police show up minutes after, and he is
arrested for the original crime of statutory rape.
“You planned this all along John?” Layna’s mother asked her husband.
“Of course, I always knew he would come back, he thinks he can defile my
daughter and get away with it by marrying her he is dead wrong.”
“And if you think you can stay in the same house with me after this you are dead
wrong. My daughter means more to me that some assumption you carry around with
you, but the truth will come out eventually and I will leave you.”
“Do what you want but I will get what I want, and that’s Dr. Cameron Williams
arrested for raping my daughter.”

“I didn’t know Cam, I didn’t know.” Layna cried.

“It’s okay honey, I have something that will clear my name and it’s more
powerful than what they can come up with.” He pointed his finger at her.
“Me?”
“Yes you. I thought it was strange when your father told, you to come home and
he was sorry. Now do you understand why I waited?”
Layna nodded and smiled. Her hope was renewed.
When she got home her father was waiting in the living room. She didn’t even
bother to speak; she hugged her mother and went to her room and began packing her
things. She put her cases by the door and turned to face her father.
“I used to think you were the best father anyone in the world could have, now I
just don’t care whether you live or die, you are not to come to my wedding when
this is over and trust me this will be over soon. Mom, I’m going to stay the hotel
with Sharolyn, you can come over tomorrow and finish the planning.”
Layna took her cases outside and got into the car she rented. When she got to
the room Sharolyn was having a light lunch.
“Hey sweetie, are you okay?”
22
Amaris Ricci – ILLICIT

“I saw Cam today; I know things will turn out okay. I have something for you
to hold on to incase my father tries anything to stop us.” She pulled out an envelope
and handed it to Sharolyn.
“Open it, read it and put it in another envelope and seal it.”
Sharolyn did as she asked.
“Are you kidding me?”
“Unbelievable, isn’t it?”
“Definitely, I will keep it safe. Now, what else do you have to do before your
big day?”
“Mom is coming over tomorrow to finalise the decoration and the food, other
than that, I have everything covered, we have less than 40 people and that suits me
just fine.”
“Great, let’s go shopping.”
“Definitely, I got the account opened yesterday so we have money to spend.”

“Dr. Cameron Williams, you are accused of Statutory rape against Layna
Graeme how do you plead?”
“Not guilty your honour.”
The judge looked up.
“You don’t have any representation?”
“I don’t need it your honour.”
“In my chambers, now.” The judge got up and the bailiff ushered Cameron into
the judge’s chambers.
“That will be all Michael.”
“I’m sorry about everything, I know you tried to help my sister.”
“Thanks, I should have tried harder.”
“I don’t think it would have mattered. Anyway, to the matter at hand. You know
something the rest of us don’t, that you are willing to represent yourself and I know
you can afford the best attorney, what is it?”
“She’s still a virgin, I never touched her Matt. Everyone assumed we were
having sex and if she is taken to the doctor he will verify it.”
“From what I remember about this case, her father and uncles beat you up and
you left the country.”
“I had to leave, her father is a mean person, I wasn’t afraid for myself.”
“There will be a penalty for that, as for everything else, well we know how this
will turn out. Follow my lead Cam, they don’t know we know each other, keep it
that way. When is the wedding?”
“In a week’s time, I got here two days ago.”
“Her father planned this right?”
23
Amaris Ricci – ILLICIT

“That’s correct sir.”

“This is looking better and better for you by the minute. Like I said, follow my
lead.”
“Yes sir.”
“Bailiff!”
The Bailiff came, and escorted Cameron back his seat, he glanced at Layna but
showed no expression.

“Dr. Williams you have pleaded not guilty, so I will ask the prosecution to call
its first witness.”

Chapter FIVE

Layna’s father was called to the stand and as soon as he sat down, he began to
rant and rave about his daughter’s virtue being destroyed by Cameron. The judge
let him rattle for about five minutes.
The prosecutor asked him a few more questions and then called his wife.
Layna’s mother answered the questions to the letter giving nothing away.
Then the prosecutor called Cameron to the stand.
“Are you in love with Layna Graeme Dr. Williams?”
“Yes I am.”
“And before this court you declare that you two have been seeing each other
since she was 12?”
“No, we were not seeing each other. I cannot possibly date a twelve-year-old. I
was grieving the death of my wife and Layna just seemed to know what I needed.
She sat next to me and we fed some ducks. We spent all our time together since then
just talking. She is a highly intelligent young woman and mature beyond her age.”
The court broke into gasps and mumbles.
“You don’t even try to deny this Dr. Williams, why?”
“I am not a child sir, I know what love is and no one can tell me different.”
“How can you sexually love a twelve-year-old?”
“My love for her has never had anything to do with sex. She has brought so
much happiness in my life especially after my wife died. I never even told her how
she died.”
“I see, so let me ask you this Dr. Williams. Is it true that you hid your meetings
from everyone?”
“That’s correct.”
“Why?”

24
Amaris Ricci – ILLICIT

“I knew no one would approve and I was not willing to risk Layna being hurt by
anyone.”
“But it happened anyway.”
“Yes, through no fault of mine, I would protect her with my life.”
“I believe Dr. Williams that you saw a young girl in need of attention, and you
gained her favour by telling her what you were doing was right, but people wouldn’t
understand and that’s why you needed to hide.”
“You have no idea what you are talking about. Layna is not stupid. When Layna
told me of her feelings, I promised her I would marry her when she turned eighteen,
I plan to keep that promise, if I were fooling her she would have figured it out by
now.”
“Did she follow you to England?”
“Yes, she did.”
“Where was she staying?”
“She stayed with Sharolyn Branch for two years.”
“And you saw her every day?”
“Never missed one.”
“Did she go to school?”
“Yes, I sent her to college, and she got her degree.”
“Who bought all her things?”
“I did.”
“What else did you do for her?”
“Anything she needed.”
“You said Dr. Williams you let her stay with Sharolyn Branch, is that correct?”
“Yes.”
“A prostitute.”
Cameron didn’t flinch.
“That is incorrect.”
“Really? You are telling us that you protected her by allowing her to stay in a
house with a woman who sleeps with men for money?”
“I suggest you tell your informants to dig a bit deeper and they will find the truth
because obviously your version of the facts are far from the truth. Sharolyn was
forced into that life when she was 16, the man who pimped her out beat her within
an inch of her life when she got pregnant by the man she loved, and the man shot
him, and he is serving time for it and that was 20 years ago. She left that life a long
time now and is doing a fantastic job of raising her son. I would trust her with my
life. Anyone who is good to Layna is good in my eyes.”
“Don’t you see anything at all wrong with a man of your age being intimate with
a 12-year-old?”

25
Amaris Ricci – ILLICIT

“I saw everything wrong with it and no matter how hard I tried, Layna was
always there, sometimes she just sat and let me relive all the memories I have of
Auri over and over, she never once complained or said that I was using her time to
talk about a dead woman. Many times, she sat and listened to me cry because I was
in so much pain. All the things I want in a woman she has, she is flawless in my
eyes. She speaks her mind and isn’t afraid of trying new things, she doesn’t ask for
anything but love because it’s all she needs to be who she is.”
“I see. No further questions your honour. I call Layna Graeme to the stand.”
Layna was sworn in and she sat down.

“Layna Graeme how old are you?”

“I turned 18 two months ago.”
“How long have you known Dr. Williams?”
“Six years.”
“And in that time, you saw him secretly for three and you ran away to stay with
him in England for almost three years.”
“No.”
“No?”
“I didn’t run away to meet him, that implies he arranged for me to stay with him,
the Clerk at the flight desk called to verify I was going to stay with someone the
morning I left.”
“I see. You know why we are all here Layna, and I don’t expect you to go
against your fiancée, but you know what he did was wrong.”
Layna smiled the biggest smile she could muster.
“Judge, may I speak freely?”
“Go right ahead my dear.”
“I met Cameron the day of his wife’s funeral and we shared a quiet moment. I
saw him again and I told him I was in love with him. I am not an advocate of child
abuse, statutory rape or anything the law deems suitable, but I will never find anyone
like Cameron. He has given me the love I need, he read me the riot act for leaving
home when I did, but he did not ridicule or belittle me. I make my own decisions
and I discuss everything with him. He said he would marry me when I turned 18
and I am holding him to that promise. The real reason for this case is because my
dear dad is trying to hide his secrets. You cannot charge someone with statutory
rape if they have not had sex with the person, on my wedding night I will be a virgin.
The court appointed doctor confirmed it. Unlike the 15-year-old my father got
pregnant and is secretly paying the girl’s family child support.”
The courtroom went wild especially Layna’s father, he was shouting at her with
the vilest comments. The mistake he made was telling her he would kill her if he

26
Amaris Ricci – ILLICIT

caught her alone. The judge immediately ordered the case dismissed and had the
marshals arrest Layna’s father for threats.
Cameron winked at Layna and nodded to the judge.

Chapter SIX

“I’m sorry momma, I know how bad this hurts you, but I couldn’t let dad get
away with hurting Cameron again.”
“I told him when this was over I would leave him, but I guess I have a better
reason to do it now.”
Cameron came up behind Layna and wrapped his arms around her.
“Would you like to move back here honey?”
“You would do that?”
“Anything for you. Let’s get out of here, this calls for a celebration.”
Layna, her uncles who apologized every 10 minutes to Cameron for the way
they treated him, her mother, Cameron, Sharolyn and a few friends who stood by
Cameron, left the court and went to Brown Sugar Restaurant for lunch.

Five years later.

“Good morning Mrs. Williams.”

“Good morning Mr. Williams.” Layna giggled.
“Can a man possible be anymore happy?”
“I’m pregnant.”
“Layna?”
She nodded her head.
“I guess that answers my question.” Cameron picked up his wife and carried her
to their bedroom.

Cameron hired 4 doctors and kept the clinic in England open and they would go
down every three months to see how things were doing. Sharolyn was promoted to
Manager and she was doing a fantastic job. Layna wanted her to come down for a
few weeks when the baby was born, and she agreed.
“Everything worked out sweetie.”
“Yes, it did, and you had a lot to do with that. You could have told the
authorities.”
“Yes, I could have but I am quite sure they would have to lock you in a cage,
because wherever that man is you would get out and find him. I prayed that I made
the right decision, and I did, I have never regretted it.”
27
Amaris Ricci – ILLICIT

“You never told me about your life.”

“Let’s see. I was 14 when my stepfather tried to rape me and when I told my
mother, she threw me out and called me a slut. I lived on the streets until a rich man
found me, he was 54. He wasn’t married, and he took me to live with him. No one
questioned when they saw us because he treated me like his only daughter. What
they didn’t know was that he was waiting until I turned 16 to get back the money he
spent. I remember being asleep and he came into my room the morning of my 16 th
birthday with flowers and chocolates.”

“Happy birthday Shars, today is going to be a great day.’

“Oh, thank you Connall.”
“Get a shower and I will be back in a few.”
For the first time in 2 years Connall touched Sharolyn on her face. He never
showed any emotion other than that of a father towards a child but now the look in
his eyes was different. It was so intense Sharolyn had to look away.
What Conall didn’t know was that she was in love with him, she never fussed
with him or gave any hints that she had feelings for him. The memory of her
stepfather was too raw in her mind. She took her shower and dressed in a Liz
Claiborne peach halter top assuming he was taking her out. She was about to let her
locks down when Connall pushed the bedroom door. When Sharolyn saw him in
the mirror she gasped, and her eyes opened wide. Connall was now wearing just
boxers and the evidence of his arousal sent Sharolyn into a tailspin. He walked up to
her and wrapped his arms around her. She leaned into him and rested her head on
his chest.
“Don’t be afraid, I’ve been waiting for this moment for two years.”
Sharolyn was in too much shock to speak. Connall turned her in his arms and
when he kissed her, she almost fainted. He was soft and gentle. Then it all changed.
Sharolyn pulled away and looked into his eyes and what she thought was love, was
nothing but lust.
“I love you.” Sharolyn whispered. Connall stepped back.
“Love? You know nothing of love little girl, it causes too many problems, no
more talk of that. I want your body and I shall have it to do as I wish.”
The confusion registered on her face.
“Ah I see, you thought I wanted to keep you and make you my wife eventually?
Why would I ever do that, I have no interest in a wife. Now undress and get on the
bed.”
Sharolyn became scared as she had never seen this side of him, but she did as
she was told.

She sat on the bed and Connall was on her in seconds. For the next half hour
Connall prepared Sharolyn for him. She was fighting her emotions as he was an
expert at love making but she knew now there was no love in his heart for her.
“This will hurt for a bit, don’t fight me.” Connall whispered.
Sharolyn opened her eyes and for a moment she thought he cared about her.
She was not prepared, all the things he had done to her body so far were nothing
compared to this. When he entered her, she screamed, and he covered her mouth
with his. She was pushing at his shoulders and chest, but he wouldn’t budge.
“It’s over now Shars, it’s over now, hush, hush.”
When he began to move inside her, her body responded quickly and with the
pain forgotten, she was in heaven but only for a short time.
Just when she was beginning to feel wonderful, Connall pulled out of her and
left the room. When he came back he had two men with him and there was a jar in
his hand which he handed to one of the men. He glanced back at her and left the
room locking the door behind him.
“I remember fighting them, one of them slapped me and opened the jar and
rubbed it between my legs. For two hours they took turns. They tied my mouth, so
I wouldn’t scream. I thought it was over when they left but two more came, two
black men who sounded like Africans.
They hurt me, they really hurt me, it didn’t matter to them I was just a little girl.
After they left I tried to get up and I was just a few feet away from the bathroom
when Connall came back. I thought all my tears were gone but they just started
again when the pain hit me.
“Get cleaned up, take these and get some sleep.”
“Why did you do this to me?” I asked him softly.
He looked at me as if I had asked him a question with an obvious answer.
“Because I could.”
For the next four years, he would bring men to my room, he let me go out once
a week with him to a party but that was just to advertise me. I hated him, but I never
let it show then I created a plan to leave. He bought me expensive things, but he let
me choose what I wanted to wear if I looked how he wanted me to. He went to the
US for a month, he told me I was free to do as I please but don’t try to run away or
he will find me. All I could think about was there would be no men. One of my
security guards wasn’t much older than I was, he changed when Connall left. He
followed me everywhere and never let anyone come near me. For that entire month,
he took me where I needed to go. What I didn’t know was that he was in love with
me and what I didn’t understand is why he waited until the night before Connall was
due to return to make love to me. You see all the men who violated me always used
protection. He didn’t. He came to my room and told me how he felt, and nothing
could change that. He said he wanted to save enough money to pay Connall for me

but only if I wanted to leave. I wanted to leave so badly but I was afraid he would
turn out just like him.
We made love that night and 8 weeks later, I found out I was pregnant. I hid it
for as long as I could, I used to be sick all the time, and I wore a band around my
tummy. Connall almost beat me to death. He was sterile, so there was no way the
child could be his. Christopher was out, and he heard me screaming when he came
back. He took out his gun and shot Connall. Our son came into this world against
all odds. Connall ruptured my uterus, my rib was broken was pushing into my lung,
when I was about 6 months my water broke, and I gave birth to a baby who was just
four pounds. I cried for three months; I prayed every second God would let my son
live after all we had been through. I took him to see his father when he was old
enough and I told him everything, they have a loving relationship, and he
understands why it happened. Fortunately, he doesn’t hate him for not being in his
life and Chris will be out next month, he wants to get married and try for another
child, I would do anything for him.”
“Wow, you went through so much.” Layna hugged her friend tightly.
“Enough sad stories let’s go baby shopping.”
“To buy what? Come let me show you something.
Sharolyn followed Layna to a room with a closed door. When Layna opened it
Sharolyn burst out laughing. The room was about 10’ by 10’ and it stored every
single item for a baby you could think about.
“Oh my gosh, Cam is such a wuss.”
“I gave him a small list when the truck pulled up I told him he had the wrong
house, then Cam called and said I should expect a delivery. What could I do but
show the men the room *sigh*.”
“Wait ‘til he starts to walk and talk, Cam is going to buy the whole of the island.”
“Oh, he started already, he is looking for a bigger house with a huge back yard,
he says he wants at least two more children and I plan to give him. Sometimes people
need to find out the truth before they judge. Imagine what would have happened if
Cam had been locked up. I am glad we stuck to our feelings and dedicated ourselves
to each other. It may not have been the ideal start, but we are where we wanted to
be and that is together.”
