STUDY OF HOME POWER

DISTRIBUTION ARRANGEMENT

Reshmi Krishnan S, AP in EEE, SCTCE 1

Aim:

To study the home power distribution arrangement with

energy meter & two subcircuits .

Reshmi Krishnan S, AP in EEE, SCTCE 2

Procedure

The connection from the power supply authority is given to the

energy meter board. There is a service fuse on the board which is
provided for the protection of supply authorities cable and
equipment from any electrical fault that may occur in the
consumer’s installation. The service fuse is also used for
disconnecting the installation from the supply line.

It is mandatory to provide a main switch for each installation. The main
switch for single phase installation shall be a double pole switch fuse unit.
The unit consists of an isolator switch, a fuse for the phase line and a neutral
link for the neutral line.

A distribution board is provided for the distribution of electrical energy to different sub
circuits. The distribution board may contain an ELCB and MCB’s or fuse unit meant
for each sub circuit in the wiring installation. One sub circuit can have a maximum of
10 points (light, fan etc) or a maximum 800 watts connected load, whichever is less. A
typical wiring circuit meant for room is shown in figure, it is mandatory that all the
switch boards, plug points etc are earthed using a bare conductor of suitable gauge.
