Pratt & Whitney Canada ‘XUnited Technologies Company S.LL.NO. GEN-040 R2 Subject Fuel Nozzle Adapter Packing Lubricant Applicability All Pratt & Whitney Canada Engine Models This Service Information Letter is issued to re-state the requirement for the use of correct lubricant on fuel nozzle adapter and transfer tube preformed packings. SIL GEN-040R1, issued in May 1997 previously covered this subject. There have been two recent reported events of severe engine hot section distress caused by poor fuel nozzle spray quality. This condition was due to contamination by Vaseline, or similar compounds that were introduced while assembling the fuel nozzle transfer tubes into the fuel nozzle adapters. Blockage of the small passages directly affects the performance of the fuel nozzle jets by decreasing their ability to properly atomize fuel in a uniform spray pattern. In both these events, several fuel nozzles were completely blocked while others exhibited deteriorated spray patterns. The following products are either non-soluble or not miscible with fuel. These products are therefore NOT RECOMMENDED by Pratt & Whitney Canada Corp. for use as a fuel nozzle adapter and transfer tube preformed packing lubricants: Ultrachem Assembly Fluid Petrolatum or Vaseline Vegetable oils or shortening Greases of any kind Any oil other than approved engine oil per relevant engine SB or Maintenance Manual P&WC strongly insists that approved turbine cils be used exclusively due to the fact that they are ‘completely soluble and miscible with fu This Service Information Letter is valid until superceded or cancelled by revision ISSUED: Sept 11, 2003, Page 1 PRATT & WHITNEY CANADA CORP.
