THE LEGAL ISSUES AND CHALLENGES IN LIVE IN
RELATIONSHIP- A CRITICAL ANALYSIS

ABSTRACT

In India, live-in relationships are becoming more common as a simple substitute to marriage.
It is characterised as the residential cohabitation of an unmarried adult couple. On the surface,
it seems to be a stress-free relationship with no legal obligations, but in reality, there are a lot
of responsibilities, legal requirements, and complexities obligations. There have been recent
attempts to include it under the purview of some laws. It is no longer illegal in India, and
numerous rulings by the Apex Court have established rules regarding property, support, and a
child's legal standing. In India, the matter is still up for debate. Numerous grey areas, such as
official documentation, cultural difficulties, property rights, will and gift rights, anti-religion
status, and LGBT issues, require due attention. The primary focus of the article is on to
comprehend the concept of live-in relationship associated with the legal issues and challenges
in the contemporary era.
