The Use of Safety Maturity Models in the Mining Industry

University of Queensland developed the MIRM (Minerals Industry Risk


Management) Maturity Chart that was based on both the Hudson model and a
similar approach

The final rung in the MIRM ladder is titled “Resilient” which is used to describe a site that has
successfully integrated safety and risk management into its operations.

The MIRM ladder was not written as a guideline but rather a description of a journey
that is intended to fit any minerals industry site.
