Ulipristal Acetate versus Placebo for Fibroid Treatment before Surgery

Comments:

The study took place from October 2008 to August 2010 on 38 academics research
centers in six countries, with the cases involved being defined precisely and on a
defined population.
a) The study could have been done on a bigger sample size. Practically, in this
study we had 48 patients treated with placebo, 95 treated with Ulipristal Acetate 5 mg
and 94 with Ulipristal Acetate 10 mg. In my opinion, for 6 countries, it could have
been a higher number of patients in order to make it more relevant.
b) The time duration, meaning the 13 weeks in which the patients received the
treatment could have been longer in order to make it more meaningful for the
literature. What I want to say is that 13 weeks is, from my point of view, not enough
to draw a conclusion when it comes to such an important problem regarding the
symptomatic uterine fibroids.
c) This is a very important topic which can be easily replicated in the future on a
higher number of patients.
