WHY STILL READ WHEN WE

CAN READ OR SPEAK IT
FLUENTLY?
2
Despite many people being able to read fluently or quickly, there's a
significant portion who struggle to comprehend what they're reading,
which has far-reaching consequences for the future.

The Philippines scored the lowest in reading comprehension among

79 participating countries and economies in the 2018 Programme for
International Student Assessment (PISA), despite its reputation as one
of the largest English-speaking nations. PISA evaluates students'
proficiency in reading, mathematics, and science.
3

English is an official language in the Philippines, spoken by over

14 million Filipinos. It's crucial in commerce, law, and education,
serving as the primary medium of instruction.

Reading is vital for learning and offers numerous benefits,

including increased intelligence, concentration, stress
reduction, relaxation, vocabulary expansion, knowledge
enhancement, and fostering creativity.
4

FIRST, READING IMPROVES

YOUR CONCENTRATION
5

Reading is like giving your brain a good workout. When you

read, your brain works hard to understand the words, make
sense of the story or information, and put it all together. It's
similar to how going to the gym makes your body stronger.
Just like regular exercise strengthens your body, reading
regularly strengthens your brain too. It helps you focus
better, think more clearly, and solve problems more easily
using analytical thinking.
6

SECOND, READING EXPANDS

THE VOCABULARY
7

By reading, we come across words that are

unfamiliar or more complicated than what we use in
daily conversations. This helps everyone expand
their understanding and learn something new. It
improves communication by making it more
efficient and effective when conveying ideas.
8

THIRD, READING BOOSTS YOUR

CREATIVITY AND IMAGINATION
9

When you begin reading, you enter a completely

new world. Reading transports you to the realm of
imagination and boosts your creativity. It allows you
to see life from various angles and perspectives.
Through books, you develop fresh and imaginative
thoughts, images, and viewpoints in your mind.
10

FOURTH, READING REDUCES

STRESS AND BOREDOM
11

Reading offers a multifaceted approach to combating

boredom and stress, providing both an enjoyable
escape from reality and a means of promoting mental
well-being. Whether delving into a gripping novel,
exploring a non-fiction topic of interest, or simply
enjoying the act of reading itself, individuals can reap
numerous benefits for their mental health and overall
quality of life.
12
CONCLUSION
Furthermore, it's essential for everyone to
understand that reading makes you more
intelligent. As you cultivate a love for
reading, you gradually become hooked on
it. Books offer abundant valuable
information, advice, and perspectives.
Reading not only enhances our language
abilities but also enriches our vocabulary.
