The engine contro! module (ECM) controls the ‘operation of the VANOS solenoids which regulate oll pressure to rotate the VANOS units. Engine rpm, load and temperature inputs are used to regulate VANOS activation. ANOS mechanical operations dependent on engine oil pressure applied tothe VANOS units. When oll pressure is applied to the units (via potsin te camshafts regulated bythe solenoid), the camshaft hubs are rotatedin te ting chain ve sprockets, thus advancing ‘or retarding intake and exhaust camshaft timing. ‘The VANO® ayatemia fully variable. When the COM, using camshaft sensor signals, detects that the oamshaits are in the optimum positions, the solenoids maintain ol pressure on the VANOS units to hold the camshaft timing.
