What is to be checked if the parameters #32 & #33 for Stop Option are missing in the MV–SMC Flex?
SUMMARY:
The MV–SMC Flex needs the Current Loop Gate Power Supply to execute ‘Stop Option’. If the SMC
does not receive the feedback of the Current Loop Gate Power Supply to the Control Module of the
SMC Flex via the Interface board, the SMC Flex parameters #32 ‘Stop Mode’ and parameter #33 ‘Stop
Time’ will not be available.
If the Current Loop Gate Power Supply fails after power up of the SMC Flex, then a warning is
indicated and the SMC Flex will execute a coast stop instead of an option stop.
If the parameters for the Stop option are not available for programming, then the induced current in
the Current Loop is to be measured, the voltage feedback at the terminals of TB6 is to be measured,
and the status of the PS Detection LED is to be checked.
ANSWER: (details)
The MV–SMC Flex has a Current Loop Transformer (CLT) whose primary is energized by the control
voltage of 115 or 230 VAC and the secondary winding develops 0.6 VAC (Figure:1). The secondary
winding drives current in the Current Loop, to power the CLGDB Current Loop Gate Driver Boards.
The current induced in the secondary wires is greater than 40 Amps. This may be checked using a
clamp-on meter during functional test, when the SMC Flex is isolated from MV, an external control
supply is provided through test socket ‘TS’, and having the selector switch in the ‘Test’ position.

A current sensor on the current loop system is used to provide feedback to the interface board. This
feedback is connected to the interface board through the connector TB6. A voltage of 5 to 7 volts AC
should be measured at the terminals of TB6. The LED labeled ‘P.S. Detection’, ON indicates the
availability of Current Loop Power.
If the MV-SMC Flex Control Module does not receive the feedback of the Current Loop Gate Power
Supply on power up, the parameters#32 ‘Stop Mode’ and Parmeter#33 ‘Stop time’ will not be
available.
However, if the MV-SMC Flex Control Module loses the feedback of the Current Loop Gate Power
Supply after power up, then a warning (a figure of a bell in the LCD display of the Control Module) is
indicated and the SMC Flex will execute a coast stop, unless the feedback is restored before a stop
command is given.

No action required
Check for induced current greater than 40 Amps in the current loop, by providing external control
supply through test socket TS and having the selector switch in ‘Test’ position.
The dedicated CT provides feedback to the Interface board through the connector at TB6. Check for a
voltage of approx 6 V AC on the terminals of TB6.
Check the LED ‘PS Detection’ status on the Interface board. The LED shall be lit for healthy Current
Loop supply available.
