How do the
representations (people,
places, events, issues) in
'Heaven' chosen by the
producers promote the
artist Emile Sande in your
opinion? *

people- inclusivity, wants to feel she is seeing everyone in the same light
places- she is stood away from them at the start looking over them, and then moves closer to them
in the London street life
events- not your stereotypical pop music video, no dancers or sensational images just reality and
focuses on inclusivity.

Is 'Heaven' influenced by
the concept of
intertextuality, bricolage or
parody? Would you
describe it as a
postmodern text based on
the Tate definition? *

the intertextual link is present through religion for example the shot where the man is carrying a
wooden cross on his back is a link to the bible where Jesus carries a cross up a hill to his
misfortune. no it doesn't describe it and a postmodern text.

What viewpoints and

messages and values does
the media language of the
music video highlight
about society? *

that society has different people and there situations are individual to them, where we shouldn't
take everything as face value, we don't know their story.

Does the music video

challenge or subvert the
codes and conventions of
a pop music video?
Explain your answer here. *

it challenges the conventions of a typical pop music video, because she uses her platform to
represent normal day life for the majority of the public instead of showing her success.

Have stereotypes been

used in a positive or
negative manner (or both)
how and why? *

both because although their in a negative situation, whether homeless or working class these
people don't see them as neither happy or sad. the woman in the red dress is seen in a negative
light as she is the only character that is stereotyped, as she is represented as someone making bad
decision. Through the use of mise-en-scene, the red dress connotates evil and danger. The low key
lighting adds to the idea that she is going to hell.

Do you think that the

music video offers
representations that are
under or over represented
in society. Which ones?
Why do you think this? *

They aren't overtly over or under represented in society, however, when they are majority of the
time it is in a negative way. Although, in this video they are presented in a positive light.

How could [different]

audience/s respond and
interpret the
representations/messages
and values/ideologies that
the music videos offer the
audience? *

A young target audience would be more inclusive and see the video as a positive toward society
and equality. The older target audience will be drawn to the religious aspect as it is more of a
traditional view.

What do you think the

purpose of this music
video is? *

To showcase people in different situations and reality, also showing that the artist Emeli Sande is
able to empathize with them through her upbringing and how she experienced racism at an early
age. Showing that she can relate in some way as she has gone through a type of discrimination
and stereotype just because of who she is. The music is used so the artist can create a status
symbol, as she is representing a variety of different people in a good way. The video will reinforce
lyrics and ideologies of the song. Help the artist shape a new demographic. Another way artists can
express themselves and their interests, as she is interested in humanity.
