“Divine Mercy Sunday”

Divine Mercy is not the typical statue seen in El Salvador, Misamis Oriental. In general, it
represents God's profound compassion and mercy toward us, sinners." derived from the Greek
word eleos which means mercy despite sin's unprecedented power, God's graces are abundant in
our time. Despite the blessings of modern technology, God's graces are mighty due to the
abundance of sin in our society.

In February 1931, in a town named Płock in Poland, St. Maria Faustina Kowalska had a vision of
Jesus. He asked her to help spread devotion to His Divine Mercy. Kowalska wrote about her
experiences in her diary from 1934 to 1938, later published as the book "Diary: Divine Mercy in
My Soul." The main ideas behind this devotion are to trust in Jesus's infinite goodness and to
show mercy to others, which helps to share God's love with them.

Helena was not planning to become a nun when she was a young woman. She eventually joined
the Sisters of Our Lady of Mercy in Warsaw after having a profound vision of Jesus in agony
during a dance with her sister Natalia. Jesus asked her, "How long shall I put up with you and
how long will you keep putting me off?" as a result of this encounter, which took place in a
cathedral. She became a nun in 1926, when she was 20 years old, and was given the religious
name Maria Faustina of the Blessed Sacrament.

The concept of divine mercy is a crucial message that God has conveyed to humanity despite the
generation today, emphasizing his compassion toward those who have strayed from his path. In
this time of extraordinary compassion, God wants to bestow abundant blessings on humanity,
exemplified by the resurrection of Jesus. Despite the increasing prevalence of sin in our modern
time today, there is still more grace accompanied by what St. Paul mentioned in his letter to the
Romans. In the face of increasing sin, God desires to offer even more blessings as the present
day witnesses an outpouring of grace due to the prevalence of sin. The revelation of Jesus as the
risen Christ marked the beginning of the Christian faith. His purpose in appearing before St.
Faustina was to revitalize the Church and rekindle faith in the redemptive power of the cross
aimed at saving sinners from eternal damnation.
