how about the functionality of commercial bank. In this report, I have tried to provide valuable

areas namely commercial banking, consumer banking, financial services and corporate finance.

No matter how efficiently a study is considered, it cannot be perfect in all aspects. The study
may not include broad explanation of facts and figures due to the nature of the study. Secondly
the limitation that affects the study is the restriction on mentioning every fact of the bank due to
the problem of secrecy of the bank. Also, the availability of required data was a problem as all
the documents and files are kept strictly under lock and key due to their confidential nature.
Thirdly, the problem of short time period also makes the analysis restricted as one cannot
properly understand thus analyze all the operations of the bank just in 6 weeks.

SWOT Analysis of upper adda Branch
Strengths
The main strength of the upper adda branch is its location it is located in good place where it
receives healthy amount of deposit every year additionally the branch has a very qualified staff.
as most of the costumers are in government sector due to branch location it mostly deals in
government accounts which are a good source of earning for a bank.
Weakness
Along with the strength of this branch it also has many weaknesses which are not good and
cause hurdles in the operation of the bank. Some of its weaknesses are as follows.
High-cost deposit:
The branch has a very high-cost deposit ratio this mean that majority of the customers of this
branch have opened a saving account. The more the number of saving accounts in the branch the
profit branch has to pay its customer. This is because many of the customers try to unprofitable
on their savings.
Slow internet service:
The city of Muzaffarabad itself has a connectivity issue. The bank suffers due to this cause more
often. The upper adda branch is also facing the internet issue due to which the customer some
time have to wait a long period of time for getting their queries solved by the bank.
No ATM & debit card:
The AJK bank does not have any of its own ATM and debit card. This lack of facility prevents
many of the new customers in Muzaffarabad to seek services from AJK bank.
Opportunities
Offer Better Services to Government Employees:
Due to branch location it has a good opportunity to provide the government employees a good
service to the employees which will eventually result in more deposit to the branch the
employees.
Trainings Programs
Comprehensive trainings programs can be develop to upgrade the core skills of the existing staff
as well as integrate high quality hiring of the new employees
Merit - Based Culture
To improve the motivation of staff a merit based culture has to promote. Secondly the branch
can increase its efficiency by introducing incentives to its employees for good work
Threats
Following are the major threats which the branch is facing:
Competitors
The major threat for the upper adda branch of the AJK bank is its competitors other Bank branch
which is also located near this branch. The other banks branch provides more convenient
services as compared to the AJK bank because other bank is scheduled bank which also deals in

17
the Islamic banking.

The word “Organization” has two meanings, firstly it means an institution or structure, viz. a
bank is an institution with its organizational structure of Head Office, local office, district offices and
branches. Secondly, it means a process of an ongoing activity i.e., the process of organizing, locating
and bringing about relationships among men, money and services. In fact, organization establishes
relationships among the people so that they collectively contribute to the attainment of organizational
goals effectively. Thus, organization is a means to an end. It is also an important part of management.

JOB DISCRIPTION AND ANALYSIS

MY LEARNING EXPERIENCE
I have accomplished my internship program of 6 weeks at BOAJK upper adda branch.
During internship I learned things regarding my personal experience. Really it was a useful
experience to deal with different types of Customers.

The Branch Manager introduces me with all staff of the Branch. Under the supervision of
Operational Manager of branch, I worked in following departments as an Internee.

Account Opening:
Account opening is a very sensitive procedure. It contains the basic information
regarding. An account opening from is given to the customer if he wants to open an
account. It also services as the purpose of giving complete record of account holder.
After completing all the requirements mentioned in account opening from an account
number is given to the customer. Then the customer becomes the holder of account and
can deposit or with draw money when and where required. Account opening register is
maintenance so that every customer has a unique account number. While in ledger, the
entry is posted along with the address and personal information of the account holder and
the mode of transaction he wants to make with the bank.

According to the type of account relation customer has with the bank, the summary of
closing balance of all the accountholders is then shifted to another book known as
“statement of affairs” under their particular heads, on a particular date.

Issuance of Cheque Book:

Amount from the account could only be withdrawn through cheque. There is a slip called
CBR (Cheque book Regulation) given to the customer on his request for issuance of
cheque book, after the account has been opened. The basic information on CBR is title of
account holder, account number, leaves the cheque book contains, signature of applicant,
signature of officer and the signature of operational manager. After verification of all the
information mentioned above cheque book is issued.

31
WHAT I LEARNT:

During my internship period I learnt so many things, especially the exposure to

professional world was great. First of all, I came to know that how banks work and where
our banking industry is moving. BOAJK gave me the opportunity to learn many things as
follows:

➢ I learnt how to deal with customers.

➢ I learnt how to do multiple task together

➢ I learnt the basic function of banking institution.

➢ I have the background of M.Com. These two studies helped me a lot in my work
at BOAJK. For maintaining the accounts, I used the knowledge of M.Com where
we were taught debit and credit entries, conversion skills and how to
communicate effectively which helped me to deal with customers and my
colleagues and officers. Managing many things at time is the skill which I learnt
during M.Com program.

RATIO ANALYSIS AND INTERPRETATION

Ratio Analysis
Financial ratios are the tools, which are used to analyze the financial conditions and
performance. By using ratios, we get a comparison that may prove more useful than the
raw numbers by themselves.

Ratio analysis is a systematic use of rations to interpret the financial statement, so that the
strength and weakness of a firm can be determined.

Asset Turnover Ratio:

The amount of sales generated for every dollar's worth of assets. It is calculated by dividing
sales in dollars by assets in dollars.

32
Asset Turnover Ratio=Net Sales/ Total Assets* 100

Year 2018 2019 2020 2021 2022

Ratio
10.16 9.44 10.28 9.06 9.53
%

Analysis:

This ratio is more useful for growth companies to check if in fact they are growing
revenue in proportion to assets. In 2018 the ratio is 10.16% in 2019 the ratio is 9.44% and
in 2020 the ratio is 10.28% which are greater than 2021. In the year 2018 the ratio is
9.06% and in 2022 it increase 9.53%.

Current Ratio:
Current ratio is a measure of liquidity position of an organization. It compares the current
assets with current liabilities of a business organization.

Current Ratio=Current Assets/Current liabilities*100

Year 2018 2019 2020 2021 2022

Ratio% 95.4 79.6 82.5 73.2 50.68

Analysis:

Current ratio of BOAJK is 95.4% in 2018 & a little bit decrease in 2019 which is 79.6%
but in 2020 it increase82.5% but in 2021 current ratio decrease to 73.2%. In 2022 we see
further decrease to 50.68%. Acutely bank is newly formed as compare other banks it
invested in fixed assets to increase branches and recruit more employs. That is bank have
low current ratio.

Debt to Total Assets:

This ratio serves a similar purpose to the debt-to-equity. It highlights the relative
importance of debt financing to the bank by showing the percentage of asset that is
supported by the debtfinancing. The higher this ratio the greater the financial risk the
lower this ratio the lower the financial risk.

Debt To Total Assets=Total liabilities/Total Assets

Year 2018 2019 2020 2021 2022

33
Ratio 0.856 0.878 0.871 0.880 0.92

Times Times Times Times Times

Analysis:

From the above analysis it is observed that in year2018itwas0.856 in2019itincrease0.878

itislittlebitchangedecreasesin2020.Weseein smalldeficiency0.871 &in2021itis0.880 in
2022 there is increase to 0.92 here we observe it not fluctuate much just a little bit change
occur that is the unfavourable sign for organization .Organization need to increase assets
and decrease liabilities.

Debt to Equity Ratio:

Debt to Equity ratio is used to assess the extent to which the organization is using
borrowed money. This ratio in banks on the higher side as compared to the other
businesses, because of the nature of banking business, which is to take deposits and then
lend it to customers.

Debt to Equity Ratio=Total liabilities/ Share Holder Equity.

Year 2018 2019 2020 2021 2022

Ratio 7.65 8.29 8.95 8.33 10.32

Times Times Times Times Times

Analysis
In year 2018 debt to equity was 7.65 it increases in 2019 8.29 it shows positive sign for
organization because liability decreased. In 2020 it shows increasing trend that is
unfavorable for organization and in 2021 it slightly decreases 8.33 & in 2022 there is
increasing trend organization have need to increase shareholder equity & decrease liabilities.

Net Profit Margin

A ratio of profitability calculated as net income divided by revenues, or net profits divided
by sales. It measures how much out of every dollar of sales a company actually keeps in
earnings.
Profit margin is very useful when comparing companies in similar industries. A higher
profit margin indicates a more profitable company that has better control over its costs
compared to its competitors.

34
Net Profit Margin=Net Profit/Net Sales*100

Year 2018 2019 2020 2021 2022

Ratio% 26.63 12.40 17.18 8.26 11.05

Analysis:

In the year of 2018 the Profit Margin Ratio of the Bank shown 26.63% which decreased
to 12.40% in 2019, but it increases to 17.18% in 2020 which show positive trend. In 2021
the ratio is 8.26%. In year 2022 it increases to 11.05%.

CHAPTER04

FINDINDS & RECOMMENDATIONS

Findings
Although AJK bank is government bank but like other organizations and banks, it faces many
problems which need to be solved. During my internship I find many problems in AJK bank and
also discussed in SWOT analysis. These problems are discussed below and also give
recommendations for solving these problems.
In the branch there is unequal distribution of wealth. The work is not properly distributed in all
staff members. Some employees work all day and some other have nothing to do all day.
There is not proper decision-making system. All decisions are dependent on head office, without
the permission of head office the branch cannot take any decision.
There is no ATM facility for customers and due to this customer face problems in cash
withdrawal.
Records are not properly maintained. When certain record is needed the staff require more time
for finding data.
Number of accounts are opened in daily basis for withdrawal of cash, but the depositors are less
that’s why face cash problem branch many times.
Half of the staff is not well trained for solving problems when arises. Because no proper training
sessions are organized.
There is absence of job rotation in AJK Bank and many members do same job for long time
period.
Another very important thing which is ignored by bank is appreciation if employees on their
good performance.
35
Recommendations
Following are some of the suggestions and recommendations that I want to give on the basis of
shortfalls or weaknesses found in the bank. Study of the branch helped mw evaluate the
organization in comparison to its future and competitors.
• The data obtained from the analysis of its present and future in combination with my
professional studies resulted in some suggestions and implementation plans, which can help
to increase the profitability and operational success of the upper adda branch branch. some of
the major findings/suggestions are discussed.
• The branch should emphasis on the organization of effective training and development
programs for its new as well as existing employees so that these are gradually updated
regarding the recent developments in the field of banking.
• The lighting system must be improved and all the out of use lights must be replaced.
• Cleaning and shining system are boring at all. Should be improved.
• Automatic generators and AVR (automatic voltage regulator) should be made available to
the branch to minimize the disruptions due to power failure.
• Newspaper should be provided to the customers to avoid the pain of waiting long.
• A cash counting machine can help reduce the time spent in counting cash.
• The branch needs research, which should be engaged in evaluating and interpreting the ways
in which the bank can flourish more and more.
• Bank should plant to expand overseas and add branches and employees at home even as
economic growth slows after the worst floods in the nation’s history.
• The branch should develop strategy, employs the policy and emphasize to increase deposits
reserves that enable to reduce borrowings. Therefore, this branch must a clear plan for
increasing the number of accounts.
• The branch should be fully prepared in its management of financial crises and its business
continuity planning, within the standing committee framework, and should work with others
to strengthen national crises management preparations.
• Every depositor should be given equal importance and there should be no differentiation
between customers so that every customer feels himself as much important as the other
