Classified
Classifying information is more than just marking a document ‘confidential’ and
locking it away.

If you don’t know how to correctly classify, store and dispose of different
documentation, then you could be putting your organisation at real risk without
even realising it.

Key Learning Points!

✓ Ensure digital confidential files are stored securely to reduce the chances of a
breach.
✓ Keep physical confidential documents locked away when not in use.
✓ Include the classification level in the subject line of your emails.
✓ Encrypt emails that contain confidential information.
✓ Destroy confidential information appropriately, shredding it and using
confidential waste bins.

Remember!

● Responsible handling of classified information is everybody’s

responsibility.
● The information owner is responsible for the classification and destruction
of classified information.
● Through UK GDPR, your organisation can be fined up to £17.5 million or
4% of its annual turnover, whichever is greater.
