Chapter 2: A framework for project management

we have 10 knowledge areas: project integration, project scope, project schedule ,

cost, quality , resource , communication, risk , procurement, stakeholders.

The Process groups :

- Initiation:start the project
- Planning:establish the scope of the project
- Executing: process performed to achieve the project
- Monitoring:track , review and regulate the process
- Closing: finalize activities

1/////// Initiation Process :

To commit the organization to a project or phase, To set the overall solution
direction, To define top-level project objective , To secure the necessary
approvals and resources, Validate alignment with strategic objectives ,To assign
a project manager

● Develop a documentary that authorizes the existence of a project, creation
of a formal record of a project
● ( ya3ti authority to manager to apply resources to project activities )

Input →tools and techniques activities , steps , tasks ) → outputs ( the output is
a project charter )

-Elemets :business need , objectives , project deliverables , assumptions

,constratints , key staff , written authorizations

2/ Process: A series of actions people take to achieve a desired result.

Types of processes
◼ Project management processes
◼ Product-oriented processes
◼ Business-oriented processes

3/Stakeholder analysis
- Stakeholders can be defined as all
parties who affect or are affected by
the project.
- They can be individuals, groups, a
community, or an institution – all
those with an interest in an
organization and its activities.
- They participate in projects in order
to improve, Effectiveness, Efficiency,
Sustainability, Transparency, Accountability
4/Tools in project management

a/ Quad chart

The beginnings of a project

Definition
• A document to confirm that
what we (as Project Manager)
see the project as, is what the
Line Manager/Customer was
thinking of.
• Remember we have NOT
started ‘doing’ the project yet.
We are still planning it.

2//////Planning process :
Facilitates later accomplishment , Ensures project wide integration,
Monitors change effectively,Provides decision support information to
stakeholders,Can be updated by iterative planning activities.

● Project management plan : process of defining , preparing and

coordinating all subsidiary plans and integrating them into comprehensive
plan
- when planning we have core processes and facilitating processes
● Project integration management

- one of the most important aspects in project management ,( also one of 10

knowledge areas ), it connects all the dots elli yelzmek taamelhm duing
the 5 phases of project management : Schedule , Cost,Scope,Quality
,Resources,Risks, Changes , Stakeholders
● objective: The main objective of project management is the coordination
within all the stakeholders of the project to ensure the team is working in
the right direction to reach the same goal.
● Project scope management : include all process required to to complete
the project ( ken el hajet dekhla mayhemnech f el hajet elli mouch dekhla )
- scope : detailed description of the project and product

● project scope : work performed to deliver service wala el product

(include product scope )
● product scope features and functionalities that characterize product
/service

● project scope statement of purpose general description of the sum

of the products /sservies provided by the project

WBS : 1/ work breakdown structure :

A deliverable oriented grouping of project elements that organizes and
defines the total scope of the project. ( subdividing project deliverables and
project work into smaller manageable components
● 2/validate WBS :
we generally use the WBS to estimate costs

3/////Activity sequencing : precedence diagramming method

we generally use the PDM to schedule activities in a project plan .

PDM representation = AON (activity on node )
