Foundational Concepts:

1. Define dynamic equilibrium in a reversible chemical reaction. How does it

differ from a completed reaction?
2. Explain what's happening on a molecular level at dynamic equilibrium. Are the
forward and reverse reactions still occurring?
3. What factors (concentration, pressure, temperature) can affect the position of
equilibrium in a reaction? How do these changes influence the rates of the
forward and reverse reactions?

Applying the Knowledge:

1. Consider the reaction: N2 (g) + 3 H2 (g) <=> 2 NH3 (g)

o How would adding more H2 gas affect the equilibrium position? Explain
why.
o If the temperature is increased, would you expect more or less NH3 to
be present at equilibrium? Why?
2. Why is it important to use a closed container when studying a reaction at
equilibrium?
3. In the Haber process (production of ammonia), a catalyst is used. How does a
catalyst affect the position of equilibrium, if at all?
