MARSHALL JVM 410 H MODIFICATIONS

Replace CARBON film Resistors with METAL film.

All resistors are 1/2W min.

Replace with 2W kiwame 1% Carbonfilm. Even lower noise than Metal film.

* Bass compression mod

We need another 220k metalfilm resistor and a 2n2 capacitor. *NOTE
These in series with each other. Then put the resistor and capacitor parallell with R72.

what this circuit does is places 2x 220k resistors in parallel for a total plate resistance of 110k,
but the 2n2 capacitor allows the bass frequencies to remain compressed as if the stock 220k resistor
is still there. So we have a simple outcome..the highs and mids are now nice and open sounding
being the new plate resistance of R72 is 110k, but now the bass frequencies are nice and tight
sounding being there still compressed...so what you get is a tighter sounding bass structure instead
of the natural, open....flabby sounding bass...This is a must have mod for EL34's.

NOTE: Make Sure the 2n2 capacitor is rated at 400v min

Capacitor provided in mod kit is 630V
Rectifier Diodes Mod
The mods Below are optional...but the stock rectifier diodes in this amp....are 1N4007's,
and in my opinion these suck...mainly because they are a tad bit noisy.

Replace D16 with UF4007

Replace D17 with UF4007
Replace D20 with UF4007
Replace D21 with UF4007

Screen Grid Resistors

The next Group of Resistors are the Screen Grid resistors....nothing wrong with them...and they do not need
to be changed....however we want to replace these next group of resistors with 2w Kiwame 1% carbon film
Resistors....reason being....2w kiwame's are the toughest carbon film resistors on the market....they dont
drift and most importantly...they produce less noise then a metal film resistor.... and give you all the warmth
that carbon film resistor normally does....so these changes are to help lower floor noise in the amp.

Clean Channel Mod - Boosting Volume

The Clean channel for the jvm410 is the same way....it has no volume at all. it can not keep up with OD1 or
OD2 channels....in fact the green and orange modes of each channel is fairly quiet, however the clean
channel is whats really hurting here. The gain pot for the clean channel is a 1meg pot... however, volumewise
its acting like a 300k gain pot....this is because the internal grid leak resistance of the 1 meg pot is working in
parallel with R117 ( 4.7m )....reducing the resistance to 824k......then R98 ( 470k ) is also in parallel with
R117....reducing the resistance to 299k. The internal grid leak resistance is what controls the "clean volume"
increase when you turn the gain pot up. So a Super Simple fix....is readjusting the grid leak resistance of the
clean channels gain pot....so it will act like a 700k pot....and not 300k....big difference volume wise.

Org Carbon Metal

R98 470k --> 1M 1%
R130 10M --> 1M 1%

The above changes will boost the volume in the clean channel....
allowing it to keep up with the raw volume of OD1/OD2 channels.
Rebalance the volume of the green and orange modes for every channel.

Org Carbon Metal

R95 470k 1M 1%
R96 10k 2.2k 1 % 4,7k if you have too much gain in orange and red modes
OD R128 10M 100k 1 % Value between 100k and 470k is OK
OD R117 4,7M Lowering the value of R117 down around 470K or a bit lower.
That should only affect the OD1/OD2 gain and hiss noise
The clean and crunch channels got a nice little volume boost from doing the above mods...
in fact all the green and orange modes for each channel will benefit from this.
OD1 and OD2 Red modes remain the same.... and the other modes and channels will get a nice little volume
boost. This is a Huge mod for this amp.

Gain Reduction Mod Did not use potmeter, replaced with 100k resistor
Wire a 1M pot across (in parallel with) R128.
Allows adjustment of gain/volume on OD1/2 Red and
Orange modes. This can be used to balance the
OD1/2 Red and Orange modes with OD1/2 Green
mode
Noise Gate Mod Will work also with direct out

This will fully kill all the floor noise in… all the high gain modes in the amp
this is the peavey JSX noise gate.... works great for the jvm410.

1959 Plexi Cap Mod

Solder .68uF or 1uF polyester capacitor in parallell with
R97. min 50Volt Capacitor.
Reduce bass in the Clean channel by replacing C207
with a 47n/50V. Orginal 100n/63V.

Resonance Mod Allows Resonance pot to act more proper.

Replace C11 with a 4.7n Capacitor min 50V.
Orginal 10n/63V Capacitor
FX Loop Ballance This mod stops the bleed in the fx loop.
Remove R20, replace with jumper.
Replace R99 with a 1/2W 220K metal resistor.

C83 Capacitor Mod Installed switch on front

Slight gain reduction to reduce some of the "fizzle"
from the gain channels.
Remove the C83 Capacitor, or clip one of the legs and bend it away from the board.
Located near V6a.

Negative Feedback Mod

Changes the way the power supply delivers power,
and provides more traditional power tube breakup at lower volumes.

-One of the following resistors depending what type of amp sound You want to sound like

47k late '60s Plexi

74k early '70s MkII Plexi
82k stock JVM
137k EVH's Plexi
176k JCM800 2203
177k+ a Marshall with almost a Vox's lack of headroom in the power amp.

Replace R58 with one of the resistors above with the one you like to have.
Or use a 250k LIN pot in series with 47k resistor.
