Abstract
In recent years depression and lack of influence has increased
dramatically mostly among young generations. Almost everyone is
facing this directly or indirectly. So we have enlisted the 100
influential people that we want to become and 20 evil people whom
we don’t want to become. We have enlisted their personal life,
achievements and works. Working on this term paper has made us to
deeply study about them. As a result we got influenced and motivated.
We have described their personal life. Talked about their personal
works and achievements. Discussed briefly about them and proposed
our opinion on why they are influential to us. We have also discussed
about 20 evil people whom we don’t want to become. We have
discussed about their evil work which indicates why we don’t want to
become them. The term paper will influence the reader and motivate
him enough to overcome daily obstacles in life by following their
footsteps.

Scientists

1. Sir Isaac Newton (1642–1726)
Sir Isaac Newton is one of my most favourite scientist. He was a polymath who made
investigations into a whole range of subjects including mathematics, optics, physics,
and astronomy. In his Principia Mathematica, published in 1687, he laid the
foundations for classical mechanics, explaining the law of gravity and the laws of
motion.
Isaac Newton is my favourite scientist. He was born premature. His father died three
months before his birth. I too was born premature. Thus his success despite going
through such hardships in early childhood influences me a lot and encourages me to
be strong and keep on looking forward. I love physics. He is one of the most important
person who laid the foundation of physics. Thus it would be my honour to become a
man of his statue.

2. Louis Pasteur (1822–1895)
Louis Pasteur was a French biologist, microbiologist and chemist renowned for his
discoveries of the principles of vaccination and microbial fermentation. Also invented
the process of pasteurization to make milk safer to drink. He contributed greatly
towards the advancement of medical sciences developing cures for rabies, anthrax and
other infectious diseases. He is remembered for his remarkable breakthroughs in the
causes and prevention of diseases. He reduced mortality from puerperal fever and
created the first vaccine for rabies and anthrax. He probably saved more lives than any
other person. His help towards the humanity can never be forgotten. He influences my
to help people day to day.
He was not a doctor nor a philanthropist yet he changed everyones life forever. It
would be really great to follow his footsteps and become like him.
9
3. Galileo Galilei (1564–1642)
10
4. Marie Curie (1867–1934)
Polish physicist and chemist. Discovered radiation and helped to apply it in the field
of X-ray. She was the first woman to win Nobel prize, the first person and only
woman to win Nobel prize twice, and the only person to win Nobel prize in two
different sciences. She was part of the “Curie Family Legacy” of five Nobel prizes.
She was also the first woman to become a professor at the University of Paris and in
1995 became the first woman to entombed on her own merits in the Pantheon in Paris.
She won the Nobel Prize in both Chemistry and Physics.
As a female she had to face a lot of obstacles yet did not give up and made history.
Her passion helps me to ignite my passion for success. She had achieved things even
men were unable to achieve it at that time. So it would be really great to become as
great as her and make history.
11
5. Albert Einstein (1879–1955)
Albert Einstein was a German born theoretical physicist who developed the theory of
relativity, one of the two pillars of modern physics. His work also known for its
influence on the philosophy of science. He is best to the general public for his mass
energy equivalence formula E=mc , which has been dubbed the worlds most famous
2
equation. Revolutionized modern physics with his general theory of relativity. He won
the Nobel Prize in Physics (1921) for his discovery of the Photoelectric effect, which
formed the basis of Quantum Theory.
He was alienated from his motherland. Yet did became successful. His life influences
me no never lose hope.
12
6. Charles Robert Darwin (1809–1882)
Charles Robert Darwin was an English naturalist, geologist and biologist, best known
for his contributions to the science of evolution. He developed his theory of evolution
against a backdrop of disbelief and skepticism. He collected evidence over 20 years
and published his conclusions in On the Origin of Species (1859). His proposition that
all species of life have descended over time from common ancestors is now widely
accepted and considered a foundational concept in science.
His theories help me question myself and what I stand on. Thus helping in the form of
what i am today. So yes, I would love to become a man of his statue.
“A man who dares to waste one hour of his time has not
discovered the value of life.”

7. Otto Hahn (1879–1968)
Hahn was a German chemist who discovered nuclear fission (1939). He was a
pioneering scientist in the field of radiochemistry and discovered radioactive elements
and nuclear isomerism (1921). He is referred as the father of nuclear chemistry. He
was awarded the Nobel Prize for Chemistry in 1944 for the discovery and the
radiochemical proof of nuclear weapons that were developed in the U.S. during World
War 2.
Hanh was an opponent of the national socialism and Jewish persecution by the Nazi
Party. Albert Einstein wrote that Hanh was one of the very few who stood upright and
did the best he could in these years of evil. After World War 2 he became a passionate
campaigner against the use of nuclear energy and weapon.
Even is the face of the government he did not became scared and sang the wrong
doing. Instead protested for the right thing. His principles helped me to build mine.
Thus I want to become like him.
15
9. Archimedes of Syracuse (287BC–212BC)
Archimedes of Syracuse was a Greek mathematician, physicist, inventor and
astronomer. Although few details of his life are known, he is regarded as one of the
leading scientists in classical antiquity and one of the greatest of all time. He
anticipated modern calculus and analysis by applying concepts of infinitesimals and
the method of exhaustion to drive and rigorously prove a range of geometrical
theorems, including the area of a circle, the surface area and volume of sphere, and the
area under a parabola.
I am terrible in math. He was born 2,200 years ago and was so good at it. Which
questions my ability and drives me to work hard and become better. That is why it
would be really great to become an excellent mathematician like him.
16
10. Aristotle (384 BC–322 BC)
A great early Greek scientist who made many types of research in the natural sciences
including botany, zoology, physics, astronomy, chemistry, meteorology and geometry.
He is considered the father of western philosophy. Aristotles views on physical
science profoundly shaped medieval scholarship. Their influence extended from Late
Antiquity and Early Middle Ages into the Renaissance and were not replaced
systematically until the Enlightenment and theories such as classical mechanics. Some
of Aristotles zoological observations such as on the hectocotylus arm of the octopus
were disbelieved until the 19th century. His works contain the earliest known formal
study of logic, studied by medieval scholars such as Peter Abelard and John Buridan.
Aristotelianism profoundly influenced Islamic thought during the Middle Ages as well
as Christian theology, especially the Neoplatonism of the Early Church and the
scholastic tradition of the Catholic Church. Aristotle was revered among medieval
Muslim scholars as “The First Teacher”. His ethics though always influential gained
renewed interest with the modern advent of virtue ethics.
Aristotles Nicomachean Ethics helped to build my own perspectives of the world and
strengthened my ethical pillar. Thus I would definitely love to become a man like him.
17
Philosophers
18
1. Socrates (470BC- 399BC)
Socrates was a classical Greek philosopher credited as one of the founders of western
philosophy and as being the first moral philosopher of the western ethical tradition of
thought. An enigmatic figure who made no writings and is known chiefly through the
accounts of classical writers writings after his lifetime, particularly his student Plato
and Xenophon. Other sources include the contemporaneous Antisthenes, Aristippus
and Aeschines of Sphettos. Aristophanes a playwright is the only source to have
written during his lifetime.
The father of philosophy is the one who influenced me to question everything and
understand the deeper meaning of everything. He is the most influential person of my
life. His thoughts helped me to shape my life, thinking, morals and ethics. For that I
am honoured and grateful. Though I know I will never get any closer to him. But it
would be my honour to follow his works and get as close as possible becoming him.
“Know thyself.”
19
2. Plato (427BC-347BC)
Plato was an Athenian philosopher during the classical period in Ancient Greece and
the founder of the Academy, the first institution of higher learning in the Western
world. He is widely considered the pivotal figure in the history of Ancient Greek and
Western philosophy, along with his teacher Socrates and his most famous student
Aristotle.
Platos Republic and Allegory of the cave put my thinking into question and redefined
the way of my thinking. As a result I started thinking outside of the box and became
open minded. His thoughts about the divine has changed everything.
20
3. Rene Descartes (1596-1650)
Rene Descartes was a French philosopher, mathematician and scientist. A native of
the Kingdom of France, he spent about 20 years of his life in the Dutch republic after

and the Stadtholder of the United Provinces. He is generally considered one of the
most notable intellectual figures of the Dutch Golden Age.
He approached a different approach in learning. He rejected all bookish knowledge
and believed practical knowledge can only be learned from practical world
experience. It is a totally different approach to learning so it would be really
interesting to become someone like him.
21
4. Immanuel Kant (1724-1804)
Immanuel Kant was an influential German philosopher. In his doctrine of
transcendental idealism, he argued that space, time and causation are mere
sensibilities, “things in themselves” exist but their nature is unknowable. In his view
the mind shapes the structures experience with all human experience sharing certain
structural features. He drew a parallel to the Copernican revolution in his proposition
that worldly objects can be instituted a priori (beforehand) and that institution is
therefore independent from a faculty of disinterested judgement. Kants views continue
to have major influence on contemporary philosophy especially the fields of
epistemology, ethics, political theory and post-modern aesthetics. It would be really
amazing to become someone of his statue.
22
5. Friedrich Nietzsche (1844-1900)
Friedrich Wilhelm Nietzsche was a German philosopher, cultural critic, composer,
poet, philologist, and Latin and Greek scholar whose work has exerted a profound
influence on western philosophy and modern intellectual history. He began his career
as a classical philologist before turning to philosophy. He became the youngest ever to
hold the Chair of Classical Philology at the University of Baseline at the age of 24. He
resigned after 10 years that plagued him most of his life. He completed much of his
core writing in the following decade. In 1889 at the of 44 he suffered a collapse and
afterward a complete loss of his mental faculties. He lived his remaining years in the
are of his mother until her death in 1897 and then with his sister Elisabeth Forster
Nietzsche.
Friedrich Nietzsches works had a great impact in my teenage days. Just can’t imagine
where my life would have been without the help of his work. So definitely it would be
a great honour for me to become such brilliant and honourable person like him.

the Roman Catholic Church and advocacy of freedom of religion, freedom of speech
and separation of church and state. He was a versatile and prolific writer, producing
works in almost every literary form including plays, poems, novels, essays and
historical and scientific works. He wrote more than 20,000 letters and more than 2,000
books and pamphlets. He was an outspoken advocate of civil liberties despite the risk
this placed him under the strict censorship laws of the time. As a satirical polemicist,
he frequently made use of his works to criticize intolerance, religious dogma and the
french institutions of this day.
Voltaire the man who helped me to strengthen my belief system for that I am grateful.
And I would be very much interested to become like him.
24
7. Confucius (551BC-479BC)
Confucius was a Chinese teacher, editor, politician and philosopher of the Spring and
Autumn period of Chinese history. The philosophy of Confucius also known as
Confucianism emphasized personal and governmental morality, correctness of social
relationships, justice and sincerity. Hi followers competed successfully with many
other schools during the Hundred Schools of Thought era only to be suppresses in
favour of the legalists during the Qin dynasty. His thoughts received official sanction
and were further developed into a system known in the west as Neo-Confucism and
later New Confucianism.
He always had an optimistic and bold thinking. He loved ceremonies and explained
the true reasons for them. So it would delightful for me to become like him.

stop.”

relative peace and stability for the Empire. His personal philosophical writings now
commonly known as Meditations are significant source of modern understanding of
ancient Stoic philosophy. They have been praised by fellow writers, philosophers and
monarchs as well as by poets and politicians centuries after his death.
He had many home tutors from whom he learned many things. Which made him the
man the magnificent and bold man he was. So I would be absolutely great to become a
man as he was.

willingness to submit, at least temporarily to more powerful foes. Sun Tzu is revered
in Chinese and East Asian culture as a legendary historical and military figure.
He was a very strong and hard general with brilliant war tactics. He is praised greatly
even in this modern age. It will be amazing to become a genius like him.

10. Laozi
Laozi also known as Lao Tzu and Lao Tze was an ancient Chinese philosopher and
writer. He is reputed author of the Tao Te Ching, the founder of philosophical Taoism,

of the Tang dynasty and modern people of the Li surname as a founder if their lineage.
Laozis work has been embraced by both various anti-authoritarian movements and
Chinese Legalism.
His works hold many procedures which can be used to solve modern day problems.
He was a kind hearted and very calm man. Thus making him always open to new
ideas. It would be my pleasure to become someone like him.

Mahatma Gandhi
(1869-1948)
A pilgrim of peace, born in India Mahatma Gandhi saw his life of
ultimate truth. He used to evolving and seeking alternative way to
thinking and living. His long journey began in 1988 of self
transformation. From his earliest days Ghandi was a sturdy role
model of extraordinary discipline and devotion. He wanted to be a
gentleman but no superficial skill could hide his inexperienced and
insecurity. Unaware of discrimination of India and British, he
innocently booked a high class passage on a train that meant to be
for high class British. As he was thrown from the train that
humiliation was the spark of the desire change. He organized an
immediate meeting of immigrants to fight for the people. He was
arrested for organizing civil resistance of the thousands of landless
farmers. Mahatma Gandhi became the primary leader of India’s
independent movement and also the architect of a form of non-
violent civil disobedient that would influence the world. Until he was
assassinated in 1948, his life and teachings inspire activists including
Martin Luther King Jr. and Nelson Mandela

that matter.”
33
Adolf Hitler
(1889-1945)
Now, many people will argue and disagree with the fact that a man
like Hitler is called a great leader but we have to say that although
his actions and deeds were not good but his leadership skills were
matched only by few in the world. He became the chancellor of
Germany in 1933, rising through the ranks and waged a great war.
But his oratory skills, military expansions and economic growth plans
are something whose credit we have to duly give him and him alone.
Meticulous planning, propaganda and strategizing by Hitler has in
some way, shaped the power politics of the world that we see even
today

the US Civil War. He strived hard and did his best to keep the people
of the country together or else, today, America would have been
many smaller countries instead of one big country. He signed the
Emancipation Proclamation, thereby ending slavery in US. He heart
ached for the ones for whom he could do not do anything. His
conviction, humility, oratory skills made him one of the greatest
leaders we have ever had.

computer revolution.. From 1995 to 2017, he held the Forbes title of the richest
person in the world all but four of those years, and held it consistently from
March 2014 to July 2017, with an estimated net worth of US$89.9 billion as of
October 2017. However, on July 27, 2017, and since October 27, 2017, he has
been surpassed by Amazon founder and CEO Jeff Bezos, who had an estimated

He built a great company from nothing, pushing the limits on occasion, pushing
his advantage at all times, to his maximum benefit. In the process his company
changed the face of business and personal life creating thousands and thousands
of jobs and billions of dollars of balance sheet equity and that’s made me
inspired to make something big and become big.

William Shakespeare
85
William Shakespeare (bapt. 26 April 1564 – 23 April 1616) was an English
poet, playwright and actor, widely regarded as the greatest writer in the English
language and the world's greatest dramatist. He is often called England's
national poet and the "Bard of Avon". His extant works, including
collaborations, consist of approximately 39 plays, 154 sonnets, two long
narrative poems, and a few other verses, some of uncertain authorship.
Shakespeare was born and raised in Stratford-upon-Avon, Warwickshire. At the
age of 18, he married Anne Hathaway, with whom he had three children:
Susanna and twins Hamnet and Judith. Sometime between 1585 and 1592, he
began a successful career in London as an actor, writer, and part-owner of a
playing company called the Lord Chamberlain's Men, later known as the King's
Men. At age 49 (around 1613), he appears to have retired to Stratford, where he
died three years later. His plays remain popular and are studied, performed, and
reinterpreted through various cultural and political contexts around the world.
Who won’t love this legend author? I love him for his writings. He has left
behind such beautiful stories. Every day, someone is inspired by his words.
Agatha Christie

around her fictional detectives Hercule Poirot and Miss Marple. Christie also
wrote the world's longest-running play, a murder mystery, The Mousetrap, and,
under the pen name Mary Westmacott, six romances. Christie was born into a
wealthy upper-middle-class family in Torquay, Devon. Before marrying and
starting a family in London, she had served in a Devon hospital during the First
World War, tending to troops coming back from the trenches. During the
Second World War, she worked as a pharmacy assistant at University College
Hospital, London, acquiring a good knowledge of poisons which feature in
many of her novels. Guinness World Records lists Christie as the best-selling
novelist of all time. According to Index Translationum, she remains the most-
translated individual author, having been translated into at least 103 languages.
Christie's stage plays The Mousetrap opened at the Ambassadors Theatre in the
West End on 25 November 1952. Later the same year, Witness for the
Prosecution received an Edgar Award by the MWA for Best Play. On 15
September 2015, coinciding with her 125th birthday. Her books and short
stories have been adapted for television, radio, video games and comics, and
more than thirty feature films have been based on her work.
I love her books because her books is the prefect balance between realism and
fiction, not too graphic and not too outrageously improbable. Her books take me
to another time and place where I get to see and observe and try to solve the
mystery.
Barbara Cartland
Dame Mary Barbara Hamilton Cartland, DBE, (9 July 1901 – 21 May 2000)
was an English novelist who wrote romance novels, one of the best-selling
87
authors as well as one of the most prolific and commercially successful
worldwide of the 20th century. Her 723 novels were translated into 38
languages and she continues to be referenced in the Guinness World Records for
the most novels published in a single year in 1976. As Barbara Cartland she is
known for writing numerous romantic novels but she had also written books
under her married name of Barbara McCorquodale and briefly under the
pseudonym of Marcus Belfry. She wrote more than 700 books, as well as
plays, music, verse, drama, magazine articles and operetta, and was a prominent
philanthropist. She reportedly sold more than 750 million copies. Other sources
estimate her total book sales at more than two billion copies. She specialised in
19th-century Victorian era pure romance. Her novels all featured portrait-style
artwork, particularly the cover art, usually designed by Francis Marshall (1901–
1980). As head of Cartland Promotions, she became one of London's most
prominent society figures. Always presenting herself in a pink chiffon gown,
plumed hat, blonde wig, and heavy make-up, she became one of Britain's most
popular media personalities.
She is an inspiration for woman who are still thinking about their writings. I
would recommend everyone to read her novels and come up with new ideas
where she left it.
Danielle Steel
88
making her books seem less realistic. Her first novel, Going Home, was
published in 1972. The novel contained many of the themes that her writing
would become well known for, including a focus on family issues and human
relationships. She is the best selling author alive and the fourth bestselling
fiction author of all time, with over 800 million copies sold. She has written 165
books, including 141 novels. Based in California for most of her career, Steel
has produced several books a year, often juggling up to five projects at once.
Despite "a resounding lack of critical acclaim" (Publishers Weekly), all her
novels have been bestsellers, including those issued in hardback. Her formula is
fairly consistent, often involving rich families facing a crisis, threatened by dark
elements such as prison, fraud, blackmail and suicide. Steel has also published
children's fiction and poetry, as well as raising funds for the treatment of mental
disorders. Her books have been translated into 43 languages, with 22 adapted
for television, including two that have received Golden Globe nominations.
When I think of authors who write popular women’s fiction, Danielle Steel is
probably the first name that comes to mind. Her writings are amazing to read.
Humayun Ahmed
Kazi Nazrul Islam (24 May 1899 – 29 August 1976) was a Bengali poet,
writer, musician, and revolutionary from Bengal. He is the national poet of
Bangladesh. Nazrul's activism for political and social justice earned him the title
of "Rebel Poet" (বিদ্রোহী কবি). Nazrul and his works are equally commemorated
and celebrated in Bangladesh and India. Born in a Bengali Muslim Kazi family,
Nazrul Islam received religious education and as a young man worked as a
muezzin at a local mosque. He learned about poetry, drama, and literature while
90
working with the rural theatrical group Letor Dal. He joined the British Indian
Army in 1917. Nazrul established himself as a journalist in Calcutta. He
criticised the British Raj and called for revolution through his poetic works,
such as "Bidrohi" and "Bhangar Gaan" as well as in his publication Dhumketu
('The Comet'). While in prison, Nazrul wrote the "Rajbandir Jabanbandi"
('Deposition of a Political Prisoner'). His writings greatly inspired Bengalis of
East Pakistan during the Bangladesh Liberation War. Nazrul's writings explored
themes such as freedom, humanity, love, and revolution. He opposed all forms
of bigotry and fundamentalism, including religious, caste-based and gender-
based. He created the first Bengali language ghazals. Nazrul wrote and
composed music for nearly 4,000 collectively known as Nazrul Geeti. In 1942
at the age of 43, he began to suffer from an unknown disease, losing his voice
and memory. He died four years later on 29 August 1976 in Bangladesh.
I love him because in his voice we continue to hear the cadences, inflections,
and accents of resistance and even revolution. And we always have to be like
this person not to worry or afraid about anything and came forward bravely.
J. K. Rowling
Joanne Rowling (born 31 July 1965), writing under the pen names J. K.
Rowling and Robert Galbraith, is a British novelist, philanthropist, film
producer, television producer and screenwriter, best known for writing the
Harry Potter fantasy series. The books have won multiple awards, and sold
more than 500 million copies, becoming the best-selling book series in history.
Born in Yate, Gloucestershire, England, Rowling was working as a researcher
91
and bilingual secretary for Amnesty International when she conceived the idea
for the Harry Potter series while on a delayed train from Manchester to London
in 1990. The seven-year period that followed saw the death of her mother, birth
of her first child, divorce from her first husband and relative poverty until the
first novel in the series, Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone, was published
in 1997. There were six sequels, of which the last, Harry Potter and the Deathly
Hallows, was released in 2007. Since then, Rowling has written five books for
adult readers. Rowling has lived a "rags to riches" life story, in which she
progressed from living on state benefits to being the world's first billionaire
author. She lost her billionaire status after giving away much of her earnings to
charity. She is the United Kingdom's bestselling living author. In October 2010,
Rowling was named the "Most Influential Woman in Britain" by leading
magazine editors. She has supported charities and launched her own charity,
Lumos.
I love her because of her character . The way she is so kind that she didn’t even
think about her earning and gave maximum of it to the charity. She faced many
obstacle in her life still standing in her own leg. It’s an inspiring thing for
woman.
Enid Blyton
Enid Mary Blyton (11 August 1897 – 28 November 1968) was an English
children's writer whose books have been among the world's best-sellers since
the 1930s, selling more than 600 million copies. Her first book, Child
Whispers, a 24-page collection of poems, was published in 1922. She wrote on
a wide range of topics including education, natural history, fantasy, mystery,
and biblical narratives. Her writing was unplanned and sprang largely from her
unconscious mind. Blyton's work became increasingly controversial among
92
literary critics, teachers and parents from the 1950s onwards, because of the
alleged unchallenging nature of her writing and the themes of her books,
particularly the Noddy series. Some libraries and schools banned her works. Her
books have been criticised as being elitist, sexist, racist, xenophobic and at odds
with the more liberal environment emerging in post-war Britain, but they have
continued to be best-sellers since her death in 1968. Blyton felt she had a
responsibility to provide her readers with a strong moral framework, so she
encouraged them to support worthy causes. The story of Blyton's life was
dramatised in a BBC film entitled Enid, featuring Helena Bonham Carter in the
title role and first broadcast in the United Kingdom on BBC Four in 2009.
There have also been several adaptations of her books for stage, screen and
television.
I really enjoy reading books of her because she writes in a way that
we get mesmerized by the book and you don't want to get out. Her English
is very fluent and clear to understand. There is always a touch of humour to
her stories.
Rabindranath Tagore

he released his first substantial poems under the pseudonym "Sun Lion". By
1877 he graduated to his first short stories and dramas, published under his real
name. As a humanist, universalist, internationalist, and ardent anti-nationalist,
he denounced the British Raj and advocated independence from Britain. As an
exponent of the Bengal Renaissance, he advanced a vast canon that comprised
paintings, sketches and doodles, hundreds of texts, and some two thousand
songs. Tagore modernised Bengali art by spurning rigid classical forms and
resisting linguistic strictures. His novels, stories, songs, dance-dramas, and
essays spoke to topics political and personal. Gitanjali, Gora (Fair-Faced) and
Ghare-Baire (The Home and the World) are his best-known works, and his
verse, short stories. His compositions were chosen by two nations as national
anthems, India's Jana Gana Mana and Bangladesh's Amar Shonar Bangla. The
Sri Lankan national anthem was inspired by his work. He died in 1947 7th
August.
We love his poetry, writings and the way he showed us by his books. Specially
his songs are very close to my heart. I try to discover him through his songs.

Awards, World Fantasy Awards, and British Fantasy Society Awards. In 2003,
the National Book Foundation awarded him the Medal for Distinguished
Contribution to American Letters. He has also received awards for his
contribution to literature for his entire oeuvre, such as the World Fantasy Award
for Life Achievement (2004), and the Grand Master Award from the Mystery
Writers of America (2007). In 2015, King was awarded with a National Medal
of Arts from the United States National Endowment for the Arts for his
contributions to literature. He has been described as the "King of Horror".
I like him cause he's really descriptive, he can make you smell what you're
reading about. I feel like he writes people realistically too, and isn't afraid to
cross lines which alone can be refreshing enough to be worth it. Some of his
stories end in a frustrating way, and some just sort of meander but the actual
word-to-word writing is enjoyable enough to read that I still like it.

younger brothers.
At a very young age, Malala developed a thirst for knowledge. For years her
father, a passionate education advocate himself, ran a learning institution in the
city, and school was a big part of Malala’s family. She later wrote that her
father told her stories about how she would toddle into classes even before she
could talk and acted as if she were the teacher.
In 2007, when Malala was ten years old, the situation in the Swat Valley rapidly
changed for her family and community. The Taliban began to control the Swat
Valley and quickly became the dominant socio-political force throughout much
of northwestern Pakistan. Girls were banned from attending school, and cultural
activities like dancing and watching television were prohibited. Suicide attacks
were widespread, and the group made its opposition to a proper education for
girls a cornerstone of its terror campaign. By the end of 2008, the Taliban had
destroyed some 400 schools.

Pablo Escobar
(1949-1993)
"The King of Cocaine", Pablo Escobar was a colombian drug lord and
a narco terrorist. He was the wealthiest criminal in history, with an
estimated net worth of 30 billion US dollars. His cartel supplied 80%
of the cocaine smuggled into the US. Escobar was born in Rionegro,
Colombia. Growing up, he was involved in criminal activities like
stealing gravestones, selling counterfeit high school diplomas,
contraband cigarettes, fake lottery tickets street scams, and stealing
cars. He had a wife and two children. His luxury house contained a
colonial house, a sculpture park and a complete zoo with animals
from various continents. Pablo started his drug exporting business at
1975, when he flew out to several locations in his planes. He got into
the drug business because it was a somewhat untouched territory
back then. In the 1980s, Pablo rose to prominence as a dominant
drug exporter in the US. When questioned about the essence of the
cocaine business, Escobar replied “simple: you bribe someone here,
you bribe someone there, and you pay a friendly banker to help you
bring the money back.” Although he was seen as an enemy to the
colombian and US governments, Pablo was seen as a “Robinhood” by
the poor people of Colombia. Escobar surrendered to the colombian
government in 1991 and was imprisoned in his own luxurious private
125
prison. Accounts of Escobar’s continued criminal activities continued
to surface on the media and the government attempted to shift him
to a conventional prison. Escobar escaped in advance and spent his
remaining life evading the police. Sixteen months later, Pablo
Escobar died in a shoutout on 2 December 1993. Over 25,000 people
attended his funeral. Some of them consider him a saint and pray to
him for receiving divine help. His name has become the focus of an
entire entertainment industry that generates millions of dollars in
Colombia and other countries. Many are profiting from movies and
TV novelas and series, while others sell T-shirts, jackets, paintings
and key chains or guide “narco-tours” — all clear evidence that the
once dangerous drug trafficker is now more popular than ever. Pablo

victim in Japan, saying he had made a “huge mistake” and was ashamed of
himself. Paul, 22, whose almost daily video blogs on YouTube have over 15
million followers, apologised for laughing with friends about the body they
filmed hanging on a tree in Japan’s so-called “suicide forest” and posted to the

social media backlash.“I’ve made a severe and continuous lapse in my

Paul said in a YouTube video called “So Sorry.”He said the shots of he and his

filmed. “I’ve made a huge mistake. I don’t expect to be forgiven... I‘m ashamed

FRANCIS CRICK (1916-2004)
Along with James D. Watson, Francis Crick will forever be remembered as one of the
discoverers of the very structure of DNA. The duo met while working at the University of
Cambridge and in 1962 received a Nobel Prize for their scientific work. Crick was arguably
among the finest minds in science, which is what makes his later beliefs all the more difficult
to fathom. At some point in the 1970s, Crick became an advocate of one of the weirdest
pseudoscientific theories of all time – a theory so out there that if someone on the bus were
to suggest it to you, you might be tempted to edge away from them quite quickly. The
premise of "directed panspermia" is that life on Earth was deliberately seeded by extra-
terrestrials – an idea that seems more like the plot of a sci-fi film than anything based in
methodical scientific research.

SERGEI BRUKHONENKO (1890-1960)
Soviet scientist Sergei Brukhonenko has been credited with helping bring about important
advances in Russian open-heart surgery, but his grisly experiments on animals were far
more disturbing. Not one to wait, Brukhonenko wasn't content with slicing up animals after
they'd died. More specifically, not only did he not like to wait, but he also didn't like the
animals to die – even after they'd been decapitated. In the late 1930s, Brukhonenko and his
team undertook a series of experiments as part of which they removed a canine's head and
kept it alive away from its body by hooking it up to air- and blood-supply apparatus. Nor was
this the only monstrosity Brukhonenko created: another hound had all the blood drawn
from its body only to later be brought back to life by this Soviet Frankenstein.
Brukhonenko's gruesome work was captured on camera in the 1940 film Experiments in the
Revival of Organisms.
