Doctor I can see from the way you’re walking
that you’ve hurt your foot, Harry.
Harry Yes, I have. I was skateboarding on
Sunday and I crashed into a tree when
a dog ran in front of me. I hit my foot
against a bench that was next to the
tree.
Doctor That sounds painful. Today is Monday -
why didn’t you get someone to look at
the foot when it happened?
Harry Well, because it was Sunday I knew
that the surgery here was closed.
Doctor It would have been better to just go to
the hospital after it happened. Did you
hurt any other part of your body?
Harry Well, I hurt my chest when it hit the tree
and my hands when I fell to the ground
but it was my foot hitting the bench
which really hurt the most. Also, I heard
a loud cracking sound and that made
me worried. It was quite sore yesterday
but today it’s very sore.
Doctor Let me take a look at the foot. Can you
take the shoe and sock off the
injured foot?
Harry Yes, of course.
Doctor Thank you. Okay. I am a little worried
about your ankle because it’s very
swollen and bruised. We’ll need to take an
x-ray. If you take this piece of paper
to the lady at reception she’ll book
you an appointment at the
hospital for this afternoon so you can
have your foot x-rayed. I’ll also give
you a prescription for painkillers. If
you’ve broken a bone your foot will
need a cast, but they’ll do that for you
at the hospital.
