CONVERTEAM THRUSTER DELTA MODULES ISOATION PROCEDURES

FOLLOW ALL ELECTRICAL SAFETY ISOLATION AND TESTING PROCEDURES.

BEFORE CARRYING OUT ANY OF THE BELOW OPERATIONS, PERSONNEL MUST

BE WELL FAMILIAR WITH THE SYSTEMS AND THOUGHLY READ AND
UNDERSTOOD THE MANULAS, DRAWINGS AS WELL GOOD UNDERSTANDING OF
ALL PARAMETRES AND IMPLICATIONS.

1. Test Points on Delta Modules :

Looking from Front, Next to 40 way ribbon cables bottom side , 4 Test points available
Top to Bottom : TP 1 = U, TP 2 = V, TP 3 = W and TP 4 = DC

Look for the Pulse width modulated signals to Firing Circuit of the IGBT/SKiiP modules with a
dual trace oscilloscope, 1 channel on a proved healthy Delta module simultaneously to verify the
MV CDC and SKiiP control PCBs are sending the signals correctly to the IGBT modules – If
not then problems are with CDC and or SKiiP Control cards mounted on the Delta Module.

2. Procedure to Run Motors with 2 Delta Modules (Reduced Torque/Amps/Power):

This procedure to be used only for fault Finding, Testing and for Limited power operations
during emergencies.

1) Isolate DC Input side Fuses, both negative and positive to the suspected module(s)
2) Disconnect all the output cables U, V & W from the suspected delta module and
Insulate with a good insulated rubber gloves or heat shrink and secure.
3) On the CDC controller, PL1 should always be connected to the DELTA module
which contains the EEPROM card, hence re-assign or move the EEPROM-SMPS
card to the appropriate Working Delta module to come as first accordingly.
4) Next Working Delta module to be connected on to the PL2 to maintain the continuity
of the circuit (Ie. The non-working should be disconnected from PL3).
5) Disconnect the 40 way ribbon cable from the isolated Delta module to CDC.

Once Powered up: Keep the Advanced menu and Engineer parameter menu Opened (Read the
manual thoroughly and understand prior to doing this operation, hence parameter Number not
mentioned here as the person doing this should be well versed with this operation Vol.10 Sec.4).

a. Check READ ONLY Parameter 99.00 and verify the Number of Delta Module showing
is now 2 instead of 3 here on LCP.
b. Check Parameter 99.05 Drive Nominal current showing 2000 A and not 3000 A.
c. Torque limit to reduce and set to 60% from the original 100% setting in Para. P8.00 = 60
d. Para. P8.08, Normal setting is “5”, which means the data is coming from RS485 signal
(DP AMC controller). If set to “1” is Fixed (As per setting in P.8.00=%%)
e. Ensure all the controls are in local and speed reference settings to be in minimum.
f. Start the Drive and monitor for a minute and slowly increase the speed reference to 5%
and then to 10% and monitor. Once satisfied for few hours put the system in remote
operation.

ON DP DESK, THE OPERATORS SHOULD BE AWARE OF THIS AS THE REDUCED POWER ON THIS
MOTOR TO GIVE NOT MORE THAN 60% THRUST WILL MAKE THE OTHER MOTORS TO
COMPENSATE SAME AS PER DP ALGORITHMS SET AS PER THE TOTAL VESSEL BAHIVIOUR.

3. Running in VVVF Mode, To verify if CDC Controller or Drive is faulty (Frequency
Control Mode).

i. Set Advanced menu and Engineer parameter menu opened

ii. Set P-99.01 = 1 (Frequency Control Mode)
iii. Set P-46.00 = 1 (Ride through enable)
iv. In Local control mode, Start the Drive and monitor for a minute and slowly increase the
speed reference to 5% and check if all ok. Note down the fault code and refer to fault
tracing manual Vol.9 Section 8 and Vol.10 Section 9 (Diagnostics)

4. Procedure to Calibrate Controller after Built Up or With Suspected Unbalanced SKIIP

Modules in the system – Repaired/Replaced Modules In the system (Or After a major
Hardware/Firmware/software upgrade).

BEFORE DOING BELOW, THE PERSONNEL SHOULD HAVE GOOD KNOWLEDGE ON

DRIVE SYSTEMS AND MUST HAVE WITNESSED THE PROCEDURE AT LEAST ONCE
ON A SIMILLAR OR ON AN ADVANCED DRIVE SYSTEMS DURING A CALIBRATION
RUN OR SO CALLED “ID RUN” ON OTHER SYSTEMS.

Ref Manual Vol.10 Section 12. Commissioning a Machine Bridge.

Back up the original parameters in to laptop before any trials and changes as even experienced
Engineers have been seen going into dilemma after the test runs.

- MOTOR TO BE DE-COUPLED FROM THE GEAR/MECHANICAL

DRIVE SYSTEMS.
- Set Advanced menu and Engineer parameter menu opened
- Ensure P.99.02 = 2 (Vector Control)
- Set Parameter 12.03 = 3 (Perform calibration Run)
- Start the drive and this process will take some time to complete.

The motor will start after a while in slow Forward, Then Stop, Then reverse, then it will go up
slow 30%.. 40%.... and finally it will take off to 100% speed and then stops.

During this time the Controller has analyzed the motor’s new magnetizing Current and all
running parameters and behavior stored into the memory based on the readings obtained from
the present Delta/Drive Modules.

Back up the new data to keypad memory as well to lap top after the completion.

The CDC controller will use these parameters in future to signal the SKiiP Module Controller
cards to fire the IGBT modules.

REVRET THE PARAMETER 12.03 BACK TO VALUE “1” AND LOCK ALL THE
ENGINEER AND ADVANCED MANU PARAMETERS MENUS.

Test run the motor in local and once satisfied, set to Remote.

PS :FIRMWARE UPGRADE AND PARAMETER UPLOAD/DOWNLOAD PROCEDURES AND NOT

MENTIONED HERE AND FILED SEPERATELY WITH THE LAPTOP.
