CHECK LIST FOR FINAL REVISION

INORGANIC CHEMISTRY

COORDINATION CHEMISTRY

1. Difference between double salts and coordination complexes.

2. Calculation of oxidation state and coordination number and charge of the complexes
3. IUPAC name from structure and structure from IUPAC name.
4. VB theory (main focus should be on this) hybridization, structure, geometry and magnetic
character
5. Structural isomerism (ionization, hydrate, ligand, coordination and linkage)
6. Optical isomerism and geometrical isomerism. (draw the structures with ethylene diamine
and oxalate kind of bidendate ligands as given in the text book. You people are messing it up
in the examination)
7. Differences between ionization isomerism. Learn the correct test for bromide, chloride and
sulphate. I think I have explained this properly in regular class.
8. Werner’s theory. (structure based on werner’s theory. Primary valency, secondary vaency
etc)
9. Introductory part of Crystal field theory.
10. Splitting pattern in octahedral and tetrahedral complexes.
11. CFSE calculation for high spin and low spin complexes.
12. Stability of the complexes ( based on K equilibrium constant and also include chelate effect,
which I sent recently in WhatsApp group. (if this is not clear, go through once in the text
book.

One more time practice the IUPAC name and structures. ( minimum 10 questions for practice)

d-BLOCK

1. Reasoning questions given in the question bank (key words important. Check for the key
words in pupil’s performance analysis given in the council’s website)
2. Reactions in acidic, basic and neutral medium. Not to memorise but to understand the logic
and do.
3. Structures of potassium dichromate and potassium permanganate.
(remind me for an interesting one mark question based on structure)
4. Lanthanide contraction and its consequences
5. General electronic configuration of transition elements, lanthanides and actinides.
6. pH dependency of chromate and dichromate.
