RELATIVE CLAUSES

NOTES:
 Lược bỏ Đại từ quan hệ
Khi mệnh đề quan hệ không đứng sau dấu ",”, không đứng sau giới từ và mệnh đề quan hệ có chủ
từ thì Đại từ quan hệ có thể lược bỏ.
CORRECT: Have you seen the dress that I have just bought?
Do you know the man whom my father is talking to?
INCORRECT: Do you know the man to whom my father is talking?
1.Khi danh từ được nói đến là tân ngữ của giới từ, ta có thể đưa giới từ đó đứng trước đại từ quan hệ. Trường
hợp này chỉ được dùng Whom và Which
giới từ + which/ whom
Ví dụ:
1. Ms Nguyen is a very nice teacher. We are studying with her.
-> Ms Nguyen, whom we are studying with, is a very nice teacher.
-> Ms Nguyen, with whom we are studying, is a very nice teacher.

2. Fortunately we had this map. We would have got lost without it.
-> Fortunately we had this map, which we would have got lost without.
-> Fortunately we had this map, without which we would have got lost.

Nhưng chú ý trường hợp xài PHRASAL VERB

Ví dụ: The old lady is very beautiful. I look after her.

-> The old lady whom I look after is very beautiful.

Câu sai: The old lady after whom I look is very beautiful
(vì look after là một phrasal verb không thể tách rời, nếu tách riêng ra nghĩa sẽ hoàn toàn khác;
look: nhìn >< look after: chăm sóc ai)
