Prepare for Use
1.  Make sure the area is well-ventilated. Wear a mask. Foreman
Hazards:
Inhalation of Toxics
 Do not smoke while spraying or spray where spark or flame is present.
 Keep the compressor at least 20 feet away from spraying area and all
explosive vapors.
 Use eye protection.
 Do not touch moving parts.
 Keep all guards or covers in place or do not use if guards or covers are
broken.
 Do not operate without proper safety valve in place
Use of air compressor  Do not adjust a regulator to result in output pressure greater than marked
maximum pressure.
Hazards:  Do not weld on or repair the air tank.
Foreman/
2. Risk of Fire or Explosion  Replace damaged tank immediately.
Mechanic/Helper
Risk of Bodily Injury  Use properly grounded electrical connections.
Risk of Bursting  Do not use grounding adaptors.
Risk of Electrical Shock  Personnel should never use compressed air to clean themselves or their
clothing.
 If there is a risk of particulates/debris flying back into the operator’s face, it
is recommended to use air nozzles/guns.
 Equip nozzle with chip guards or that generate air curtains around the
nozzle to reduce fly back.
 Never participate in horseplay with compressed air.
 Never point an air nozzle/gun or direct its airstream towards another
individual.

Job Safety Analysis

 Use ear plugs when using highly compressed air.

 Air nozzles/guns using compressed air for drying/cleaning must be
regulated or reduced to allow no more than 30 Psi.
Storing the Compressor
 Turn the power switch to the “off” position.
