Care by Dergham Majeed Hameed, Sameer Razzaq Oleiwi, Ali Hussein Ali Aldakheel. The date
it was received for Publication is on 25 April 2021 and the date of acceptance for publication is

October-December 2018, Vol. 12, Issue 4 p160-164. DOI Number:

Introduction
In clinical settings, nurses deal with various complex problems and choices every day
that call for quick and precise decisions. Over time, the nursing profession has undergone
several changes that require various judgments, some of which are ethical decisions.
Nevertheless, despite these changes, nurses continue to adhere to consistent nursing
expressions, practices, commitments, and core ethical principles that are founded on codes of
ethics. Making "fair" or "correct" judgments and the justifications we offer for our actions are all
related to ethics. Morality promotes clever application in the provision of human services.
It is expected of those who advance toward careers as medical caregivers that they not
only adhere to the moral standards of the profession but also embrace them as an essential part
of their training. The nursing profession has a self-aware, enduring, and recognizable ethical
heritage. A set of guidelines that reflect the primary goals, character traits, and commitments of
a calling is known as a code of morality.

Objective
Analyze the nurses' adherence to moral principles. Analyze the connection between the
demographic traits of nurses and their adherence to moral standards.

Methods
In order to assess nurses' adherence to nursing ethics at Al-Hussein Hospital, a
descriptive approach was used. From January 2018 until April 2018, the study was conducted.
The probability random sampling method approach is used to pick 100 staff nurses for the
current investigation. A self-report questionnaire may have been employed to collect data.
participants. The questionnaire is divided into two main sections, as follows: part one is a
socio-demographic characteristics sheet with five elements, including age, gender, the degree
of education required for nurses, and the unit/ward. The second section, which consists of 38
questions to assess the nurses' commitment to nursing ethics, is evaluated as follows: Yes = 3, I
don't know = 2, No = 1.

Results
Within the age range of 25 to 30 years, 30% of the research sample falls, while the
survey's findings regarding gender indicate that 55% of the sample is made up of women. The
study's findings also indicate that 71.0% of participants—or the bulk of the study—graduated
from nursing school. 18.0% of them, or less than twenty percent, work in the medical field.
The mean scores of the nurses’ commitment toward nursing ethics with regard of the
patients and hospital policy are both 2.51. This indicates that a majority of nurses provide
mediocre patient care. Additionally, when it comes to hospital policy, half of the nurses exhibit a
moderate adherence to codes of ethics.

Discussions
According to the study's findings, the average age of the subjects was 30.8 + 8.7 years.
Regarding the general adherence to ethical standards toward patients, it can be seen that
nurses exhibit moderate adherence as they show fairness to the health and development of all
patients when they express mind, for example, among the patients in the patient group that they
are working with. Care was distributed among a group of patients in a reasonable, legal, and fair
manner.
The majority of the nurses in the study have a moderate commitment to hospital policy
overall because they are concerned about applying the policy while maintaining a balance
between patients' rights and the policy. This may be due to the difficulty in applying some of the
codes because they are incompatible with Iraqi culture.
Regarding the connection between nurses' demographic traits and their adherence to
moral standards, none of the traits were related to any other. This may be because many
medical professionals take the code of professional ethics into account when dealing with moral
difficulties but fail to act upon it. They frequently lack the resources and assistance necessary to
respond in accordance with the code, and occasionally they genuinely are unsure of what to do.
Nursing Implications

When working in the hospital, facing an ethical dilemma is inevitable. The journal is
regarding the adherence of nurses to the code of ethics and how their demographic profile
affects their commitment to the code of ethics. Since the journal evaluated their commitment,
this can help improve their decision-making skills when working in the hospital. Also, this can be
an awakening to educational and medical institutions to reinforce their policies when dealing
with ethical dilemmas. Abiding by these rules or codes is important to prevent any lawsuits, work
suspension, and worse, termination of the medical license.
