Abandoning Thermal Power Ambitions, Meghalaya Government Commits
to ₹500 Crore Solar Project Unveiling

The Meghalaya cabinet has given the nod to scrap a 500 MW thermal power
project following NEEPCO's keen interest in sustainable energy. The North
Eastern Electric Power Corporation Limited (NEEPCO) conveyed their intent to
withdraw from the thermal project, aligning with their commitment to eco-
friendly practices. This move prompts the cancellation of a previously signed
MoU. The state government, however, plans to explore other avenues to address
the pressing power shortage. NEEPCO's stance reflects a shift towards being a
"green" company, as they opt out of investing in thermal ventures. In tandem,
Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma launched the ₹500 crore CM Solar Mission, a
transformative initiative aimed at easing the region's power crisis through
renewable energy adoption
